### 2/5 — App issues

*2021-11-28, version 1.1.16*

App still hasn’t been fixed and it’s been about a month or two now. When will the bug be fixed?

### 2/5 — Poor Functionality

*2019-09-28, version 1.0*

I use catalogue functions often. This new app has a filter by item type but is does not work even though item type is listed. Also there is no sort function. If you have a large number of items on search you are better off researching it elsewhere to get the exact title. Then you have less results to search through to find the format you want. I am giving it a 2 because once I do the above, it is still good for requesting and tracking holds.

### 2/5 — Okay. Really no better than mobile web version

*2019-06-06, version 1.0*

Actually, I can't seem to manage Hold suspensions from the app, so I will have to continue using the mobile version. also, the app shows that a Held item is suspended, but not until when. That's very useful when juggling several holds at once. Should also be able to search catalog from the home page. And when scrolling through lists, the touch time it too sensitive and jumps to pages not intended to be selected.

I do like the "Similar" suggestions when searching the catalog. I also like the events page, but being able to select preferred branches only (a one-time setting perhaps) would be nice so i don't have to scroll through irrelevant events every single time.

This app interests me, but I think it needs more functionality to be more useful and easier to use than the web browser version.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Straight up does not work

*2024-04-03*

Constant crashing. Both the app and the website are often incapable of loading a simple page.

### 1/5 — Clunky

*2023-01-26, version 1.1.19*

Not a user friendly app. My recommendation is just go to the library website on your browser much easier and more informative. I’ll be deleting this app.

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2022-01-06, version 1.1.17*

This app has no worked for me a single day that I’ve had it. Even deleting it and redos loading it didn’t help.

### 1/5 — Not Working

*2021-11-14, version 1.1.16*

This app has not been working for several weeks. I was told at the library that there is something going on with the app & tech is aware. It’s been weeks & I cannot get my loans to download or renew. I cannot make holds without the app freezing & saying something went wrong. How long does it take to get the app operational?

### 1/5 — Hard to use

*2021-10-30, version 1.1.16*

It’s Incredibly hard to use!! I can’t log into my account either

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2019-09-13, version 1.0*

I cannot find my wish list or how to start a new one. Cannot see how to send book to kindle reader. Changes but no improvement. Whoever designed this must not read

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2019-06-17, version 1.0*

Opens, fades to black, displays data entry error message. Have deleted and reloaded three times. Nada.

### 1/5 — Buggy

*2019-06-17, version 1.0*

Very buggy. Can't use it because it is constantly popping up windows saying error.

### 1/5 — Still needs major improvement

*2019-06-07, version 1.0*

The search option for the catalog majority of the time cannot find anything you’re searching for. The actual website is more reliable than this is. When you log in, you have to enter a library card number, whereas the website will let you use your username or card number. The card number should allow to be added to mobile wallets such as “Apple Wallet” so we don’t need to open the app to get our library card number also.

### 2/5 — Still needs MORE improvement

*2024-04-03, version 2.13.0*

The card number should allow to be added to mobile wallets such as “Apple Wallet” so we don’t need to open the app to get our library card number also. The app is still very slow at pulling results. One of the best features I find on this app is simply it having an option to see all the items the library currently has on order.

## Most praised reviews (9 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Library in Your Pocket

*2025-05-19, version 2.18.0*

Much improved interface and usability. Simple to navigate and the easy of placing and checking on Holds is a relief.

### 5/5 — Just like the website!!

*2024-05-11, version 2.13.0*

I was wondering if Mid Continent had an app, and I was happy to see they did! Ignore the 3 star average, this runs great, just like the Online website! Awesome!

### 5/5 — Fall 2023 update made it great!

*2023-11-30, version 2.13.0*

The old app was virtually unusable. The search gave you different and incomplete results compared to the website and it was horribly difficult to navigate. The new update (Fall 2023) makes it so easy to use, search works great, you can click on links within listings to get other books by the same author, loans/holds are easier to see and manage. So pleased with this update.

### 5/5 — MCPL On-The-Go!!!

*2022-02-25*

This app saves me so much time and so many headaches. I’m sure I’m not alone in going about my day, and then thinking, “Hey! I wonder if the library has a book about that?” or, “This book on BookTok looks awesome! I wonder if MCPL has it?”
But then, if I’m out of the house, I have to type in everything into my phone browser and hope that I didn’t mistype a number, then wait for it to load uneven and GAH! It’s a hassle to be sure.
This app, however, makes it SO easy to check on my holds, place holds, browse the library, and check location times and addresses. This is a very useful app and one of my daily go-to’s.

### 4/5 — Grateful: Much Needed Improvement!

*2023-11-01, version 2.12.0*

I’m thrilled to see the desperately needed update to this mobile app! It’s soo much easier to navigate, to view the status of checked out items, holds, due dates, and book lists. Searching the catalog is exactly what we’ve needed for years. I deleted the old app because I got soo frustrated with glitches. Thank you to the tech team and staff for investing in a better app for patrons!

### 3/5 — Love this library

*2021-08-01, version 1.1.16*

Please make a way to set my library location default, so I don’t have to redo that each time I reserve a book.

### 3/5 — Updates Needed

*2019-09-21, version 1.0*

1. Love the idea of having an e-library card, but it won’t scan because my card won’t fit under your scanner in self checkout. If you make the barcode bigger or move it closer to the home button, it would work.

2. I rely on “My Bookshelf” to let me know that my books will be due soon. I was late returning a dvd because you have to scroll all the way down the page to figure it out for yourself. Can you have a red warning button somewhere to indicate that your items are due soon (see KCPL’s app).

Thanks! This app is way better than your old one.

### 3/5 — App is glitching

*2019-06-17, version 1.0*

Won’t open on iPhone 6

### 2/5 — MCPL Please Invest In This App

*2022-04-09, version 1.1.18*

As a loyal patron, I’ve advocated for MCPL app efficiency for years. I’ve rated and reviewed the app here and on Facebook. The most recent update (~3 or 4 yrs) was a dramatic step in the right direction. But while MCPL has poured millions of dollars into remodeling and building new branch locations (the best in wealthier neighborhoods), very little investment has been made in improving the mobile app experience to include efficiency. As of April 9, 2022, the app freezes up when I try viewing my account or searching the catalog. Library Executives, I implore you to plan, invest in, and execute a more robust and efficient mobile app.
