## What is Midi Echo AU?

AUv3 Midi Fx - Midi Echo

online manual here: http:/amssoftware.org/manual/MidiEchoManual.pdf

Note : AUv3 midi apps need a compatible host (AUM,Audiobus 3, Cubasis, BM3 etc).

So what is a midi echo? It is similar to the audio echo effect where copies of the original audio are repeated at regular time intervals but with some form of change (e.g. quieter). But unlike audio, midi is digital in nature (low resolution 8 bit mostly) and focused around the midi note on & off message used to control synths etc.

This app acts on midi note-on independently from the note-off but when the note – off appears it echoes the release of the note-on in the same way the note-on was echoed (pitch interval etc) even if the UI controls have changed.

UI Controls exist to allow you to:
* Select the type of echo (fixed, ping pong, taper)
* Vary the number of echoes (from 0 to 20)
* Make echoes quieter by reducing the midi velocity
* Define the pitch interval (semitone) of all successive echoes
* Select the delay time between echoes either tempo sync or in mSec
* Define the delay type (fixed, tempo, random 50, random 20)
* Set the midi channel of echoes (1-16) so that other synths can select the echo only
* Disable individual echoes - to allow you to play chords with a small or 0 delay
* Set Midi thru to keep/remove the original note messages
* Panic button to quickly turn off all notes
* Setup control automation as all controls are AU Parameters

## Key features

- Selectable echo types (fixed, ping pong, taper)
- Adjustable number of echoes (0-20)
- MIDI velocity reduction for quieter echoes
- Define pitch interval for successive echoes
- Tempo sync or mSec delay time
- Set MIDI channel for echoes

### 3/5 — Nicht genau

*2024-06-01*

### 1/5 — Do NOT buy

*2023-02-01*

An absolute rip-off.
Why are Apple even allowing this on their App Store?
It’s nothing but a pdf document saying how proud they are of the app.
But there is NOTHING to use.
Nothing in AUM, GarageBand, Cubasis.
It’s a grift, people.
Don’t fall for it.

**Developer response:** Hi,
All AUv3 apps have two sides - run it standalone & it will show you the manual. Run in an AUv3 host like AUM or Audiobus & it will run as intended (with the controls).
MidiEcho is a midi audio unit (not an audio only audio unit) so needs to be selected correctly in the host. Eg in AUM press + to add a channel strip, select Midi, then press the + circle. Pick Audio Unit MIDI Processor & scroll down to MidiEcho - pick that.

### 1/5 — Bad

*2022-06-25*

A fake app that basically doesn't work and when I log in it gives a white list and I can't work on it

**Developer response:** All Apple AU apps run standalone & as an audio unit in a host(AUM, Audiobus etc). By running the app directly you are in standalone mode so see just the list.
Run the app in a host & you will see the panel.

### 5/5 — Easy to Use Yet Powerful AU Midi FX

*2022-04-02*

I’ve had this app for awhile and it’s a great midi tool. The ability to set the amount of midi echoes, then sequence those extra notes is a really cool feature. On top of that you can set the time to sync to the host or run free. It also has the ability to pitch the midi echoes up or down. Although it seems like a relatively simple app with the different parameters and some adjustments you can get it to do some very interesting things. Definitely recommend. Cheers!

**Developer response:** Glad you like it!

### 5/5 — I love this app!

*2020-02-18*

I use this with monophonic synths to simulate chords - just make the tempo fast enough “strum” a series of notes. It would be cool if the order of repeats could be changed: say delay the first note to the end and start with the second repeat. That would give an inverted chord.

### 5/5 — Great now I've worked it out!

*2019-09-07*

I've had this app for ages without knowing how it works and unable to find a YT vid on it, or a manual. I just kind of expected an instant effect as you would in an audio effect. After reading about how the effects work in the midiSequencer FX manual and applying it to a couple of external synth inputs though, I now get it and after ten minutes or so playing with it I can see that it's a very different kind of delay with bags of potential for mucking about. Unexpectedly good. All Tony's apps are a bit on the head scratchy side to me on first inspection but they definitely seem worth persevering with and this weeks mission it to thoroughly suss them all out and leave reviews accordingly!

Edit: Half an hour later - MB2S, Eventide x2 and a Bleass or three and woohoo, monkey heaven!
