## What is MIDI Patch?

MIDI Patch is a MIDI enabled App that listens for and processes inbound PC, CC or Note On MIDI messages received from bluetooth MIDI devices/apps and translates these messages to SysEx MIDI messages, which are relayed/sent outbound to connected bluetooth MIDI devices/apps based.

The App is essentially a relay/broker and translator of MIDI messages from PC/CC/Note On to SysEx MIDI messages. The App will listen and send to any MIDI bluetooth devices or MIDI enabled apps connected to the iPad or iPhone.

While use cases can be wide and vary based on specific user requirements, the typical use of MIDI Patch would consist of mapping inbound messages from MIDI enabled foot controllers capable of sending PC, CC or Note On MIDI messages and generate SysEx MIDI messages intended for devices such as guitar amps, allowing use of generic MIDI foot controllers or MIDI apps to adjust guitar amp settings that support/expect SysEx messages.

The app includes in-app configuration for specific guitar amps (Boss Waza Air, Katana Air, Katana Air EX, Katana GO, Katana MkII, Katana Gen3, Pocket GT, Valeton GP-5 and GP-50) but can also be configured for any MIDI device or App that expects/receives SysEx messages. Each patch is user defined based on specifying the inbound message to listen for (PC, CC or Note On) and configure the translation of this message to an outbound SysEx message by specifying a device, a function (either using in-app configured devices/functions or user defined ones) and the value logic to apply (specific value or received value with optional value translation such as Toggle and Minimum/Maximum clamping).

Specific features include:

- Unlimited user defined patches consisting of inbound and outbound message configuration.
- Support for both PC, CC, Note On inbound messages (will listen for either PC, CC or Note On).
- Each patch will translate/build the outbound SysEx message by selecting a Device, Function, and Source of Value handling.
- The Source of Value can be set to Specific Value (send a constant value each each time the patch is invoked) or Received Value (will send the received CC code value).
- Additional Value Translation is available for the Received Value scenario including Toggle (0=0/OFF and 1-127=1/ON) or Minimum/Maximum (received value will be converted to a value within a set minimum and maximum value).
- User defined Devices and Functions can be created and become available for use in defined patches.
- Patch configuration is automatically saved between sessions and can also be backed and restored to/from file.
- A bluetooth device discovery page is available from within the app (to view/select the connection state of Bluetooth MIDI devices).

IMPORTANT: This app includes configuration which works with some of the current Boss amps and Valeton pedals, with no guarantee of compatibility with future firmware releases.

### 5/5 — Terrific control app for Katana GO!

*2025-08-19*

Many of the modern amp modeler devices sound really good out of the box… however it is often difficult if not impossible to tweak the settings in a real gig performance situation:-0
Mid Patch is a game changer for me for gaining control of be very important internal parameters of my many boss Guitar amp modeler products!!
—-It has really given me terrific insight, and control into my excellent sounding Boss Katana GO!

Thanks for a greatly needed addition to the Katana line of products!!

### 5/5 — Great tool!

*2024-05-28*

Such a useful tool. Patches can be created to allow midi commands to create actions. For example, I use it with a foot pedal to change sounds and FX in the Boss Katana GO. Excellent’

**Developer response:** Thank you Paul for such a positive review, really happy you find the app useful !

## Frequently asked questions about MIDI Patch

### What does MIDI Patch do?

MIDI Patch acts as a relay and translator for MIDI messages. It listens for incoming PC, CC, or Note On messages from Bluetooth MIDI devices and converts them into SysEx MIDI messages to send to other connected devices.

### What kind of devices can I control with MIDI Patch?

You can control any MIDI-enabled device or app that expects SysEx messages. The app includes specific configurations for certain Boss amps and Valeton pedals, but can be set up for any MIDI device.

### How does MIDI Patch handle incoming MIDI messages?

MIDI Patch can listen for PC, CC, or Note On messages. Each patch you define specifies which inbound message to listen for and how to translate it into an outbound SysEx message.

### Can I create my own custom MIDI mappings in MIDI Patch?

Yes, you can create unlimited user-defined patches. This includes specifying the inbound message, the target device and function, and how the value logic should be applied, including options like Toggle or Minimum/Maximum clamping.

### Does MIDI Patch have ads?

No, MIDI Patch does not contain advertisements. It is a paid application that provides its full functionality without interruptions from ads.

### What is the price of MIDI Patch?

MIDI Patch is available for a one-time purchase of $9.99. This price grants you access to all features and future updates.

### On which devices can I use MIDI Patch?

MIDI Patch is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod devices. It is designed to work across Apple's mobile ecosystem.

### How often is MIDI Patch updated?

The latest version of MIDI Patch is 2.4, last updated on January 10, 2026. While this indicates a recent update, the developer has not specified a regular update frequency.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.5 — 2026-05-10

- Update of MIDI library to most recent version for additional stability and performance improvements.

- Addition of MIDI Channels for Inbound MIDI filtering. Selecting ALL Channels mimics previous behaviour where all messages from any channel are processed. But users now have the ability to select individual channels that MIDI Patch will react to (providing additional control over what gets processed or ignored by MIDI Patch). Only selected Channels will be processed.

### 2.4 — 2026-01-10

- Addition of Valeton GP-5 and GP-50 devices

- Addition of Functions for Katana GO: "Memory A", "Memory B", and "Memory C" functions, allows to select A/B/C of the currently active preset (this is in addition to the currently available memory +/- or memory selector). "Memory ABC (+)" and "Memory ABC (-)" which is a movement either ascending or descending across the ABC of whatever preset is currently active. "Memory Jump ABC (+/-)" which moves across the A or B or C jumping from one preset number to the next (i.e. 3B to 4B to 5B, etc.). This is different than the +Memoy ABC (+/-)" which moves through A B and C within the same preset (i.e. 3B to 3C to 3A).

- Addition of "Device Outbound Bindings" screen, which lets the user associate the in-app defined devices in the app to specific bluetooth/midi connected devices. This avoids outbound message to be sent to all devices (which was the default previously) and could help both performance and stability, especially for multiple connected devices. This allows more specificity for which device is to be sent the outbound messages per device. This is optional and the default ALL (Broadcast) option mimics the behaviour prior to this update and continues to send outbound messages to all connected devices.

Various Fixes Including:
- Improved UI for Add/Edit Patch (better screen size management)
- Fix for Test Patch (testing with a specific value but)
- Fixed the sizing of patch name editing (was too small once moved out of the way of the keyboard).
- Bug fix for Add User Devise and Function (these are now moved to the menu and makes the patch editing less busy)

### 2.3 — 2025-08-04

Addition of option to opt out of initial reminder popup that shows on app startup (this will reset with each new release but once opted out, that message will no longer show at startup).

### 2.2 — 2025-07-09

Bug fix where activate/deactivate patches was processing on inbound CC code 0 and applying to all patches without a CC code assigned for active/inactive setting. This could inadvertently deactivate or activate all patches with an unassigned state midi code. CC code 0 is now ignored for setting patch state.

### 2.1 — 2025-06-21

- Addition of Summary/Detail view toggle for patch listing

- Addition of an optional user defined Patch Name (which is shown in summary view). If not used, this defaults to 'Device - Function'. Which means users now have the option of naming patches but if not provided, it will revert to using Device - Function as the name for the summary view. Use of patch name is optional.

- When using the search feature, the found text will be highlighted in red showing where the value was found in the searchable settings. Note that the search applies to all searchable settings, even in summary view. To see what the filter was applied on, select detailed view.

- When testing a patch with a specific value, the blue part of the test circle now initiates the test and tapping the value will allow updating the value (previously it would always bring up the value selection on each test). This change hopefully makes testing with specific values less confusing.

- Minor UI updates and other fixes
