There’s a few things I think are missing to make it flawless, but it does what it says on the tin, so five stars is well deserved. Thanks for the response, it’s good to know you’re willing to improve the app :) Original: Great to have and I’m grateful that it’s free, but in cubasis it struggles to work with geoshred. I’m getting very similar results as if I were to record mpe midi directly into cubasis. I hope it improves over time, as it’s a promising little app that solves a huge problem for iOS users, but for my needs, it doesn’t work. Its perfect for using it with AUM or Loopy Pro if you want to taperec some midi instrument and want to transpose it for example! I love the simple and functional GUI and its great that it has 4 trax! Just some minor things that could be improved, (switching off punch out for recordings at the end of the trax, easier possibility to move punch in and punch out to playhead position) but that might come, hopefully! Aber auf dem Mac läuft der MIDI Tape Recorder nicht. Jedenfalls nicht bei mir unter Cubase und auch nicht in Gig Performer. ### 1/5 — Don’t Buy! *2024-10-10* This is the only app I’ve ever been refused a refund on. Even after an appeal. So unless you are prepared to keep this app if it disappoints you (as it did me) don’t buy! Personally I lost some good work on this app by accidentally hitting the destructive undo. There is no redo. That alone made me unwilling to ever use it again. An inexcusable oversight in design. The way markers are adjusted on long projects is also unnecessarily fiddly. And there is no written documentation for the product, only one YouTube video which doesn’t demonstrate some of the features claimed in the app description. ### 1/5 — Uncomfortable *2024-04-12* The cropping is useless. No Sound. ### 3/5 — EDIT NOTES *2022-02-24* This is just what’s needed except we need to EDIT THE NOTES, CLIPS, note data, etc **Developer response:** As detailed in the description of this project, it's designed to not support these features and operate more like a 4 track audio recorder, capturing all the details that dense MPE MIDI streams emit. If you want a traditional piano roll recorder and editor with all the associated downside, MIDI Tape Recorder is not for you, there are many other projects like that out there. ### 4/5 — Takes a little fiddling around, but… *2024-05-25* …a utility like this is so obviously useful for almost any musician who uses midi-enabled stuff that it worth it. Would love to see a built-in editor. ### 4/5 — Brilliant idea, difficult to use without a manual *2022-07-06* At first I was lost. There is no recorder here, it seems to be an extra to things I do not understand. It does record on iphone garageband but is tricky. I usea Yamaha P-115 piano with a special musical cable that looks like an old style USB Printer one end and new iPhone other end. 1. Install. 2. Power off wait power on. 3. Open Garage band. 4. Create Song; Tracks; External; Audio Unit Extensions; click on Midi T...order; 5. Click on the Top right volume knob. 6. Use common sense to record freestyle piano to a green midi track. 7. + new track eg. KEYBOARD, more sounds, subtle piano 8. move the green midi track to the piano lane and play. Hopefully no quantise, no volume change, all as you played 9. How to get this midi file out of garageband? Export project gives an empty file. Export phone ring creates a midi but stuck in your phone... ??? ### 4/5 — My first app review ever… *2022-06-10* This app is so outstanding and excellent and all the good things that the other reviewers have already mentioned. Thank you for making this app, and should you decide to start charging for it you won’t get any complaints from me. BUT there is just one thing that doesn’t seem to be working correctly for me, and that’s the midi import function. Pressing the import MIDI file button shows me a list of “Locations”, fine. I wish to import a MIDI file from AudioShare, so I press on that icon and nothing happens. I presume correct behavior would then show me a column with all the AudioShare folders displayed. Is that correct? Similarly nothing also happens when I press any of the other “Locations” shown. Other than this one bug, this app is quite a dream come true. ### 4/5 — My iPad can’t open *2022-01-10* Why¿ **Developer response:** It's not possible to know why your iPad doesn't open MIDI Tape Recorder without knowing more about your configuration and how you're using it. Are you using MIDI Tape Recorder as a plug-in inside a host or DAW? It's not a standalone app and doesn't provide any functionality on its own. Love it. ### 5/5 — Simply Brilliant *2024-11-09* I have some really great midi recorders / editors on my device and I love them but I wanted a really simple way to just record midi exactly how it’s played and then export it. It may seem a daft workflow as the exported file often ends up being imported in to a app that can record midi and do everything this app can do (and more) but the simplicity of this app that just records midi streams is just what I was looking for. Midi has also been adopted by other professions like lighting and video control and can see this being very useful in environments where midi isn’t just triggering instruments. ### 5/5 — Geert Fanboy Here *2024-01-27* Wow. I wonder if this is the answer to recording midi using Mainstage on the Mac. Mainstage only records audio if you want to record a performance. I’ve been using it for years and it has never let me down, and in my experience is the most faithful and reliable method of recording MIDI. Negative reviewers should read the documentation and perhaps study up a bit more on how to work with MIDI and AUv3 plugins in their preferred host app. Also, if you get really bizarre recordings that sound like some invisible, recently used IAA midi source app hasn’t closed properly - restart your device. 🙃 ### 5/5 — Avout midi player *2022-12-03* Can I use it with a usb plugin.
