## What is Migaku?

Learning languages is actually pretty simple: if you consume content you enjoy, and you understand that content, you will make progress. Period.

Migaku (and its Chrome browser extension) enables you to do that:
1. Our courses take you from zero to 80% comprehension in ~6 months (10 cards/day)
2. We make text interactive: click words in your phone's YouTube subtitles to see what they mean
3. We let you make media-rich flashcards out of those words with one click
4. We make personalized study sessions out of the flashcards you create
5. Repeat!

Whether you're learning Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, Spanish, Italian, German, Cantonese, Portuguese, English, French or Vietnamese, Migaku equips you with the tools you need to make real progress.

Migaku requires a paid subscription to access its courses, features, and AI tools.

Migaku – AI Language Learning Tool

■ How languages are really learned:

If you want to watch movies in other languages, then you need to learn languages with movies. If you want to read books in other languages, then you need to learn languages by reading. As you spend more time doing the things you enjoy doing in the language you're learning, you'll build the unique skills you need to more easily do those things.

Unfortunately, it's difficult to read books and watch movies in another language as a beginner.

And that's where Migaku comes in

■ Data-driven courses for beginners

The problem with most apps and textbooks is that they teach you what someone else thinks language learners need to know, and those things may not reflect what you actually need to learn to do the things that are important to you. This matters because not all words are used equally often: while a college-educated native speaker knows ~30,000 words, you only need to know ~1,500 words to recognize 80% of the words in modern media.

Our flashcard-based courses teach you these ~1,500 words—the ones that are useful to everyone, no matter their goals—plus a few hundred basic grammar points. What makes our courses special is that every "next" flashcard contains only one new word, making Migaku's learning curve super smooth. You're always learning something new, but never overwhelmed. It's a fluent language learning approach.

Migaku courses are currently available for Japanese, Mandarin, and Korean.

■ Turn subtitles and text into interactive language learning opportunities

Migaku makes texts interactive: just click on words to see what they mean. You can also hear audio recordings from native speakers, reference images of the term, check example sentences, get an AI explanation of what the word means in context, have AI break sentences down for you word-by-word, or see a translation of the sentence that your word appears in.

Basically, Migaku lets you consume content in another language as if you knew as many words as a native speaker.

Our mobile app supports YouTube, manually pasted content, and physical content like books or street signs.
Our Chrome extension supports web pages and several popular streaming websites.

■ Create custom study cards or import language flashcards

Find a useful looking word while consuming content? Turn it into a high-quality flashcard with one button, and Migaku's spaced repetition language practice algorithm will create personalized study sessions for you. You'll be nudged to review these flashcards periodically, ensuring you remember them.

Decks designed for the Anki flashcard app can be converted for use with Migaku, too.

■ Study anywhere, even offline

Migaku's courses and any flashcards you make are available offline and automatically sync between all of your devices.

■ Learn multiple languages at once

A single Migaku subscription gives you access to all of Migaku's languages and lets you use all of Migaku's features and AI language learning tools as much as you want.

### 5/5 — Best

*2026-08-19*

Get this and forget about the headache that resource gathering or what to use is ,this will get you to the level where you can learn directly from stuff that you want to actually watch

### 3/5 — Avoid the Reader at all costs.

*2026-08-17*

It’s a good app and platform for video content but they rush features and updates without fixing fundamental flaws. The parser is completely scuffed. Migaku suggests readings on Japanese words which are just completely wrong, kanji have multiple readings and the app teaches incorrect readings all the time. It’s fine on video content because you can hear when the parser is wrong and you can choose the right one, but for reading content it’s actively teaching you incorrect Japanese which you mine and solidify into memory. Forcing people to have to relearn incorrect words. It’s pretty unacceptable.

Avoid the Reader at all costs, it teaches incorrect Japanese and it will poison your learning. Stick to video content only.

### 1/5 — No trail or view the app

*2026-08-10, version 2.60.0*

I Downloaded an unknown Japanese app from an unknown developer and is asking for my email and money!! I just wanted to see what it was about before anything bc some yt recommended.

I won’t be be back 🗑️🚮

### 5/5 — Great app

*2026-08-09*

This app is so essential to my Japanese learning journey. It's so well thought and designed. I love the Anki cards app, but this one takes it to another level.

### 1/5 — Unusable most of the time

*2026-08-05*

I really like what they did there. The service is just awesome - if it was working. I haven’t been able to use the App as well as the Browser version for the past weeks and mostly months due to the application being just super buggy. Multiple bugs, small ones but also multiple ones where each one is just breaking the service completely. I cannot recommend for at least the next year until they maybe release the first stable version. Please fix!

### 1/5 — No free trial

*2026-08-02, version 2.59.0*

You can’t test it out… they hit you with a paywall for super high prices without an option to try it first…

### 5/5 — Incredible for Japanese, Best Language Learning Platform I’ve Tried

*2026-08-01*

This is legit one of the best language learning platforms you could use. Seriously, their academy course combined with their superior SRS flashcard system (better than Anki imo), is so effective and makes studying something I genuinely look forward to. Kanji is actually fun now, when I used to be afraid of it. Learning the foundation of the language is so well explained and I always feel I have a perfect amount of studying each day to feel progression yet not be overloaded. Seriously, try this out. Best experience i’ve had language learning yet.

### 1/5 — You’re gonna have to fork over the money…

*2026-07-31*

Yeah, no, I don’t know what I was expecting. With the advertising I saw online I thought this would’ve been at least somewhat free, but no the app shoves it’s subscription service in your face and your only other option is to be set back to the sign in page like a filthy cheap scrub. Obviously this app is an amazing resource and I hope the developers continue to prosper in their pursuit of making learning better! However, with all the other apps that teach your target language with similar pricing, I sadly can’t recommend it if you’re already drowning in services (ie: bunpro, Duolingo, and whatever else is on the market.) But if you’re not me go right ahead the UI is amazing and it looks engaging!

### 5/5 — Migaku helps with consistency

*2026-07-30, version 2.58.0*

I love Migaku since I can consistently do lessons everyday at my own pace. Sometimes I can do a 15 minute lesson, other times I can stretch it to 45 minutes.

### 1/5 — No free trial

*2026-07-28*

Waste of time
