## What is Milometry?

Milometry is a mileage and fuel log that keeps itself. It records your drives automatically, lets you sort them with a swipe, and works out what your business journeys are worth. No account, no subscription, and no copy of your log on a server of ours.

IT STARTS WITHOUT YOU

Drive away from somewhere you parked and Milometry notices. It records the journey by itself and closes it once you have been still for a few minutes.

Automatic recording needs location access set to Always. A phone can still stop apps working in the background; the app warns you when that happens.

Prefer to start it yourself? Ask Siri, hold the app icon for a shortcut, or set up an automation that starts a trip when your car's Bluetooth connects. While it records, a Live Activity shows the running total on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. It starts and stops by itself, so there is nothing to touch while you drive.

If it misses one, it usually notices. Milometry looks for gaps between the journeys it did record, checks your odometer readings against the log, and offers anything missing back to you.

SWIPE, AND IT IS FILED

New drives arrive as a deck of cards, each route drawn on the map so you can see which journey it was. Swipe right for business, left for personal.

Name the office or a regular client once and journeys there sort themselves from then on.

THE DEDUCTION ADDS ITSELF UP

Business journeys are worked out at the rate set by the IRS, 76 cents a mile, adding up as you drive, across every vehicle you use.

SEE WHAT DRIVING REALLY COSTS

Log a fill-up: how much went in, what it cost, and the odometer reading. Between two full tanks Milometry works out your real MPG, then prices journeys with what your car actually does rather than the brochure figure.

Parking, tolls, congestion and clean air charges attach to the journey they belong to, with a photograph of the receipt kept beside them.

PAPERWORK, READY WHEN YOU ARE

A statement for every month and a running total for the tax year, made as you go rather than assembled in a panic afterwards.

Export the log as a CSV, the deduction as a PDF, or take a full backup. Coming from another app or a spreadsheet? Import a CSV, tell Milometry which column is which, and bring your history with you.

MORE THAN ONE CAR

Add every vehicle you drive. Each keeps its own fuel prices, its own economy and its own running costs, and each journey belongs to the one that made it.

YOUR DRIVING STAYS YOURS

There is no Milometry account and no Milometry server. Trips, routes, fill-ups, expenses and receipt photographs are held in your phone's own storage. There is no analytics and no advertising code in the app.

Nothing is uploaded to us. Your log only goes where you send it: a folder in Files or iCloud Drive, a drive on your own network over WebDAV, or Google Drive. You choose the destination, and you can choose none. Maps and place names come from Apple.

For another layer, lock Milometry behind Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.

PAY ONCE

One payment for this app. Updates to it are included, with no subscription and nothing to cancel. No tiers and no adverts.

BUILT FOR DRIVERS IN THE US

Miles, real MPG, the IRS rates and the tax year the totals run on.

Milometry also carries the rules for 11 other countries and reads in 6 languages, so it travels with you. Anywhere else, set your own rate or your company's scheme.

Runs on iPhone and iPad.

Deduction figures are estimates, meant to help you keep an accurate record. They are not tax advice. Check anything that matters with the IRS or with your accountant.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.0 — 2026-09-30

Privacy and security. Your app data and the passwords for network drives are no longer visible in the Files app, and those passwords are now kept in the keychain. Reset now also clears export files, the diagnostics log and sync folders.

Safer on the road. Milometry no longer asks you to start a trip as you pull away. Remind me is now called Ask me afterwards: it records the drive and asks whether to keep it once the drive is over. CarPlay asks business or personal once you have disconnected.

Correct figures. Insights works out each tax year at that year's own rate, and schemes saved before this year's rate change now use the new rate too. Imported rows marked commute or non-business are no longer counted as business, and numbers such as 1,234 import correctly.

Backups. A backup passphrase can now be set on the phone. Before, setting one failed without saying so. It now asks for the passphrase twice, to catch a slip before it seals your backups.

Trips and claims. Merging two trips keeps the parking and tolls from both. The claim PDF and CSV show the rate paid on each trip, and the calculator's fuel estimate is right for schemes in kilometres.

Precise Location. Milometry now warns when Precise Location is off, because without it the phone cannot notice you driving away.

Tutorials. Settings, Help, Tutorials opens the guides on milometry.com, with short films.

Accessibility. Buttons are labelled for VoiceOver, and text and controls have stronger contrast.

Amounts in yen. Parking, tolls, fill-ups and standing costs entered in yen were stored a hundred times too large. They now show correctly, and existing figures are put right the first time the app opens. Belgium's rate is worked out by period from January 2024, and a rate published ahead of its start date now takes over on the day. Fixes to some other countries' rates and wording.

Translations corrected in French, Spanish, German, Dutch and Japanese.

### 1.0.8 — 2026-09-16

CarPlay. Milometry now has a car screen: a Start trip card while parked, live distance, speed and duration while recording, a Today tab with the day's drives, the week's distance and the year's claim, and a business or personal question when a drive ends with the car still connected. Plugging in starts recording by itself, so a drive that begins on CarPlay is never missed. That can be switched off under Tracking.

Fewer phantom trips. A phone sitting still indoors could start a trip on its own, keep it running for an hour, and turn a few hundred metres of GPS drift into a drive. Three separate causes, all fixed: a trip now only restarts after a silence if the phone has actually gone somewhere, drift between two vague fixes no longer counts as speed, and the driving-speed setting means what it says.

Quiet means quiet. With quiet mode on, the app sends no notifications at all: no start a trip prompt, no recording stopped notice, no save prompt, and reminders due inside the quiet window are held back. Commute reminders are only scheduled inside your travel hours.

Two new settings under Tracking: the size of the ring around where you parked, for anyone who walks about a depot, a site or a hospital all day, and how far the phone may wander while parked before it counts as moving.

The recording stopped notice no longer appears just because the phone sat still, and only for trips that have actually been confirmed as a drive.

### 1.0.7 — 2026-09-14

Quiet mode, from the bell on the Track screen, by voice, from the app icon or from the widget. On a train, a bus or in someone else's car the app still records, but says nothing: no notification when a journey starts or ends, nothing on the Lock Screen. Four hours, until tonight, or until you turn it off. Or let your calendar do it: an event mentioning a train or a bus keeps the app quiet while it is on.

Travel hours. Tell the app when you normally drive, day by day, and anything outside those hours is recorded quietly.

The app now notices when a recorded journey looks like a train or a bus: no corners and a steady speed, or gentle stop-start at town pace. It asks before anything is binned, unless quiet mode was on, in which case it is binned for you. It learns from your answers and stops asking once it has them right, offers to tag a station it keeps seeing, and never questions a drive that started from CarPlay or your car's Bluetooth. Binned trips sit under a new Bin filter on the Trips list, with Restore.

A long drive could be saved and then deleted seconds later by the check that recovers unfinished trips. It cannot any more, and a drive that ends with the phone in a pocket is written down before its place names are looked up rather than after.

A drive that began within ten minutes of the app re-checking where you had parked was refused as a repeat of the previous one. It is recorded now.

If the phone stops recording partway through a day, the drives either side of the silence are saved as separate journeys rather than one long one.

On iPhone a second, cheaper location service now watches for you setting off while parked, so a slow or missed wake-up from the parking spot is no longer the only chance. And the app now says so on iPhone too when location is not allowed all the time.

### 1.0.5 — 2026-09-11

Drives that begin while the app is closed are recorded on iPhone. A departure announced the moment iOS woke the app was being mistaken for a false alarm, and once one had been dismissed nothing further was noticed until the app was opened again. Found from your feedback, and fixed.

Milometry now says when your phone is blocking its notifications, so a drive recorded in the background can no longer start and finish without a word.

One Export button, and a builder behind it. Choose journeys, fuel or route points, a spreadsheet or a claim document, one claim year or everything, and see what the file contains before you send it.

Spreadsheets can carry much more: exact distance, duration, average speed, vehicle, passengers and expenses, and the route itself, either as a column or as one row per point ready to map.

Groups leave the app at last. The group a journey belongs to now appears in the spreadsheet and in the claim document, so a work site or a client can be referenced by whoever reads it.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-09-07

Share a drive, a month or the whole claim year as an image. Eight looks to swipe between, one of them the real map of the route you drove.

Plan a drive before you make it: drop a pin, see the distance, what it will cost in fuel and what it is worth to claim, then start recording from the same screen.

The claim year, start to finish. A year-end walk takes you through whatever is left to sort, and you can mark a year as submitted so nothing changes it by accident afterwards.

Figures that match your own: a true cost per mile worked out from your standing costs, charge-out rates for the clients you bill, and the gap between what you are reimbursed and what you could claim, on every statement.

Backups worth trusting. Seal them with a passphrase so a synced folder cannot read a life story, keep dated monthly copies, and see what a backup contains before it replaces anything.

Long-press the app icon to start a trip, and an automatic drive is matched to the car whose Bluetooth your phone is on.
