*2010-03-18, version 0*

### 5/5 — Simple, challenging, great.

*2010-02-20*

I rarely leave reviews for games, but this one is good enough to let other people know about it. Its simplicity and uniqueness make this is a great game. Knock out one block to make the designated shape fit through wall. After a couple days I made it through the regular "play" mode. I reset the progress and did it again and thought I was done. On to Gauntlet Mode. Random shapes keep coming as you try to beat your high score and compare it to everyone else in the world. Soothing and subtle (read: not obnoxious or corny) background music means not having to turn it down or put on mute during game play.

### 5/5 — challenging and Fun

*2010-01-05, version 0*

Good exercise for the brain. I enjoyed it very much. Very attractive game layout as well.

*2009-08-27, version 0*

### 5/5 — Fun game!

*2009-08-16*

This is a very original game. And it also provides a good challange. Plus it appears that it will have plenty of replay value. It the perfect combination!

*2009-07-20, version 0*

*2009-07-07, version 0*

### 5/5 — Excellent

Very fun, challenging, and only 99 cents. Unlockable content. Support a great developer and buy this now!

### 5/5 — Addicted

*2009-06-26*

The gauntlet mode is like Lays chips... You can never play just once.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Where are the directions?

*2010-06-03*

The real puzzle here is to figure out how to play, since there are no directions.

### 2/5 — Hmmmmm...

*2011-11-27*

Hmmmm..... What's a point of a game if u can't pass the second level or what ever is after the first section. U can't make the shape go through........ Is there a way u can put more than 1 whole in it.
If u answer my question I will be very grateful!
Thanks for reading my review!

**Developer response:** A little late but... Try again, it's definitely possible! Note that it will show you the solution after you fail, look for a blinking block. (as long as the show solutions options hasn't been disabled in the options)

### 3/5 — Fun game

*2009-08-14*

The reason I am giving only 3 stars is because it is too easy for a puzzle game. The reason it is too easy is because it gives you the solution as soon as you screw up! Yes, there is a fair amount of randomization with the puzzles in each tier, but once you learn them they're easy to spot when you see them again. So by forcing the solution on us when we miss one is lame. There should at least be an option to turn this stupid feature off. It makes it almost worth screwing up so that we can immediately see the answer to that particular puzzle.

*2012-02-07, version 1.5*

### 4/5 — distinctive and fun

*2011-09-03*

Very enjoyable pattern recognition game. Normally I avoid puzzles with timers, but I'm glad I took a chance on this one.

The interface can be slightly fussy: when you mean to click a square you sometimes click the square next door. It'd be more fun if this did not happen but it's a minor distraction from an otherwise enjoyable experience.

People who enjoy Tetris would like this game as it uses some of the same sort of thinking.

### 4/5 — Freaky :D

*2009-08-22*

I feel like this is a Tron game ;) This dev is really a cool dude who I've emailed questions. I love this and his other game Dragon Scroll. Pure Indie! Keep up the great work!

### 4/5 — May drive your perception skills up the wall

*2009-06-25*

Do you think you’re good at visualizing objects or have a decent sense of perception? Seeing spatially and playing spatially are two different things which you soon find out in the Mind Wall, a neat 3D puzzler that not only forces you to think differently, but also quickly. Presented in an elegantly designed format, Mind Wall offers addictive gameplay even as it taxes your visual senses.

The concept involves a moving wall with various openings heading straight for you and a shape that you must quickly figure out how to get safely through the square-shaped wall. The catch is that you can tap on any one spot on the wall to create that perfect opening. The difficulty is that only a few seconds separates success from failure. Each time you play the game, the walls are randomly generated so no two games play the same which may or may not be a good thing depending on how good you are.

Visually, the game has a geometric background and walls and shapes change in color every step of the way. The 3D animation is well implemented and a side view is presented so you can see the shape as it passes through or crashes into a wall. The soundtrack has an ominous tone, and I wish there more variety to spice change the atmospheric mood through the levels. The game thoughtfully also has auto-flip…the fact that I need to mention it means that too many devs still don’t include this essential feature.

The game contains 3 game modes: Standard, Gauntlet and Wall Designer. Standard offers 10 different shapes that must progressively solve. Each level requires successfully completing a series of puzzles before the level is cleared and unlocks the next level. The shapes start out simple but gradually become more complex. Miss one puzzle, and you begin that level again.

Name of Levels
* Child’s Play
* Consciousness
* Expansion
* Dream State
* Doomnut
* Tree
* Snake
* Stonehenge
* The Sign
* Rocket

Additional levels would be welcome because I can see some who will quickly get through these levels. The other option is to change the shape of the wall so it’s not always a square. Instead, other shapes could include a triangle, octagon, circle and rectangle among others and would instantly provide a variety of different levels.

Standard mode is the training grounds for Gauntlet mode, and once you’ve successfully passed through 6 levels, Gauntlet mode is unlocked. Gauntlet is sort of the survival take on 3D shapes and is really what adds to the replay value of Mind Wall. Whereas the one specific shape is used for each level in Standard, multiple shapes are randomly used which will require to quick thinking in adapting to each shape that you must get through the wall. Scoring is based on shape and combo points, and the game ends once a shape crashes a wall.

Gauntlet offers both local and online scoreboards, and if you’re good enough to score 20,000 points which by the way can be difficult, you’re provided access to Wall Designer, a shape editor that allows you to design and play your own Mind Wall. By the way, I saw scores showing waves in the 50s and 60s which means they successfully completed 60 or so puzzles in a row which kind of blows my mind after having played this for a while.

As I mentioned, you’re only given one move each puzzle, and according to the dev, each puzzle is solvable. It’s a strange feeling because the more you play this, the quicker you get at visualizing the possibilities of the different openings. Once you tap on a spot which is illustrated by a yellow square, you may have a few seconds before the wall starts moving in so you change at the last minute before the wall and shape move in on each other. The game can also be frustrating because of the randomly generated levels so don’t think you get off any easier the next time.

Mind Wall is an elegantly designed game that while intuitive to play, provides enough tricks to keep you hooked. The Gauntlet mode in particular will test your ability to interpret shapes and force quick decision-making to see how many waves you can last. All in all, this is a good puzzler that should keep you busy for a little while.

### 5/5 — Loves it

*2012-10-08, version 1.5*

Love this game, would be great to see an expanded or slicker version. But I'm happy with it as is :)

### 5/5 — Addictive

*2012-08-07*

This game is addictive and diabolical. The only change I'd make is to show the solution after failure in every mode. I passed the initial levels (child's play through rocket) pretty quickly, but some reviewers seem to disbelieve that the levels are possible with just one removal (they are). The Gauntlet modes are where It's at.

**Developer response:** A little late but... it's possible to disable showing gauntlet solutions in the options, I believe this was added at some point after this review.

*2012-04-01, version 1.5*

### 5/5 — Excellent atmospheric reaction game

*2010-09-21, version 0*

Really great game! Love the excellent soundtrack and great concept that could only work so well on iPhone. This dev is one of my favourites and he never disappoints.

### 5/5 — Great App!!!!

*2010-08-20*

Hey man!! I'm the guy from the webcast chat!!!
I've been playing this game and it's actually fun! Haha
Love the updated graphics for the Retina display! ;)

### 5/5 — Great game, but why show solutions?

*2010-08-07*

I really like this (it's kind of a zen thing), but the enjoyment and challenge is somewhat spoiled by showing the solutions in Gauntlet mode.

UPDATE: Ha! There's a setting in Options to turn off Gauntlet solutions. Unfortunately, it doesn't remember the setting after you quit the app. This should be the default setting, but at least the option is there.

UPDATE 2: Thanks for fixing the option to not show solutions. Unfortunately, since the update Mind Wall no longer saves local high scores.

### 5/5 — Awesome

Highly original, totally fun game. An easy 5 stars, recommended.
