### 1/5 — Buggy app, disorganized study, do not recommend

*2026-03-11*

I would advise not volunteering for a study that uses this app. I diligently click on surveys when I get a notification, but very frequently the app then just says “no survey available,” and marks my completion rate down. Sometimes there is a survey available but the answer choices are not available. I’ve been getting notifications for them for about 18 days when the study I signed up for was surveys for 10 days. Emailing the study team and app email, they were slow to respond. A mess all around.

### 3/5 — Stunned to see this project/app still alive.

*2024-11-14*

While this experiment is actually really interesting & helpful, it's been years since the app has been updated. It basically stopped working around iOS17. Repeated emails to the makers/researchers went completely unanswered, leading people to believe the research project was dead or that the scientists had just moved on.

So I'm cautiously optimistic that the app will be functional now & that the researchers/makers will be around, responsive & a bit more involved this time around. Color me very cautiously hopeful.

The improvements to the app so far look minimal but helpful.

### 3/5 — Repetitive and inaccurate statistics

*2024-05-17*

I did a study with this app for 10 days and it was extremely uninteresting because every single time it asked for input, the questions were the same. the study was finished, the statistics shown in my app were not at all accurate

**Developer response:** Thanks for participating in this research, Hg GH jfg. As the research behind Mind Window is looking at how things change (or do not) over time, the questions will be repetitive. Please email us at 'support@mindwindowapp.com' to let us know what you were expecting from the statistics and why you think they were not accurate!

### 2/5 — Running into major error

*2023-07-19*

I really like the concept of this app and have done a couple of dozen check ins now, but the one big error that I’m running into is that I can’t view my stats. Every time I click on the tab, it tells me there’s a server error and the app can’t load the check in data from the server. That’s basically the main reason for using this app at all, and I don’t see a point in continuing using it if I keep running into this problem.

**Developer response:** Thanks for letting us know that you're having a problem. There was a bug in version 1.6.0 that is behind this. We're in the process of fixing affected accounts but probably have yet to get to yours. Can you make sure to update to version 1.6.1 and email us at 'support@mindwindowapp.com' with your username? After that, we can make sure your account is corrected.

### 3/5 — Needs a pause feature, or I'm gonna kill my phone

*2021-06-16*

I'm happy to help research, but there needs to be a way to pause the alerts for a while. My husband is in the final stages of Alzheimer's and I'm just sitting by his bed thinking morbid thoughts and trying not to think them. The notifications, even if I don't open them, make me think. When I do respond, I don't think my thoughts are representative enough of a functioning human to be helpful, and my comments end up being a barrage of anger directed at the app for making me think and for taking my thoughts in odd directions. (Is waiting for my husband to die a goal? If I accidentally feel positive for a moment, am I an evil person?) If I delete the app, I will never reinstall it because it will be a reminder of all this, so I'm trying not to delete it. Really need to have a pause button.

**Developer response:** So sorry to hear about your situation. Although there is no 'pause' button, if you ever want to temporarily stop the notifications, you can log out of Mind Window in the 'Account' tab. When you want to start them again, you can log back in.

Another option would be to go to the Settings app and click on the 'Notifications' item. From there, you can find the Mind Window listing, select it, and turn off 'Allow Notifications'. You could then turn them back on when you're ready.

Again, we're very sorry to hear about what's happening with your husband. The sort of thoughts and feelings that you're having are not uncommon for those who have to be in the situation you're living through. We hope that you both find support and peace in the coming days.

### 4/5 — Problem with receiving notifications.

*2021-04-28*

In general, I find this app easy to use and sort of interesting. I am hard of hearing however, and despite using hearing aids, often miss notifications. Adding an option for vibrations and repeated sound notifications would help. I couldn’t find a place to report this on the website.
As an addendum, I realized as I sat in a quiet place this morning with my phone in my pocket, that there is a very brief vibration associated with the notification. If I were doing anything the least bit active, however, I doubt that I’d notice it.

### 5/5 — Mind Window review

*2021-03-23*

Mind Window is a survey-type interface that collects information regarding your emotions and your mental health several times throughout the day. The app is fairly intuitive. However, it took me several sessions to understand what some of the questions were intended to ask. I answer the questions as honestly as possible within my memory range. I hope the information being gathered is helpful to the scientists working on this project.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your in-depth review and for your honest-reactions while participating in the research!

### 5/5 — Insightful!

*2021-03-16*

I have learned a lot about my personal patterns of thought while using this app! It’s also cool to know that my entries are helping further psychological research at the University of Arizona. The notifications come in random/unpredictable intervals which is nice: it catches me during all kinds of different tasks and provides an opportunity to be aware of my thoughts in real time (rather than reflecting on them when it’s “convenient”, or at the end of the day, for example).

Very smooth interface, no bugs.

**Developer response:** Thanks for your comments and for your participation!

### 5/5 — Excellent Design

*2021-02-24*

The Mind Window app is very well designed. Remembering the username and password made frequent access streamlined and simple. The addition of features like trophies based on user activity and the ability to customize visuals were both appreciated.

**Developer response:** Thanks so much for your review and for participating in this research!

### 5/5 — Awesome app for mental health tracking

*2020-09-25*

I downloaded this app for a psychology experiment required in one of my classes and didn’t think much of it. But when I started using it I realized it was a great place to write down my thoughts and think about how I was feeling. I’d recommend a download!
