### 3/5 — Short “Lifetime”

*2025-11-05, version 3.7*

Wow, now I’m kind of regretting the decision to purchase the “lifetime” subscription! This app showed such promise, and it seemed like a really good deal at the time, but I guess that’s the risk you take. So sorry to see this app go down as yet another example of how a better idea isn’t always enough to unseat the established powerhouses.

### 3/5 — was good

*2025-10-22, version 3.7*

Took them a long time to do a one time subscription fee and it was high. Now they are out of business. Lesson learned. the app was great but pricing was greedy. Price it cheap and masses will use it. Then you can add features and hire a huge dev team

### 4/5 — Will re-review

*2025-01-04, version 3.5.1*

I gave them a bad review before because they didnt have a lifetime option. Seems they have come to their senses and done a one time fee. I will re-try it again and re-eval. Thanks minimalist for ditching that subscription way.

### 3/5 — Minimalist

*2024-06-04, version 3.5*

Confusing. Formatting instructions unclear.
Lately there have been repeated up-sells to prevent being limited to 10 edits, (whatever that means.)
Password broke after trying to follow instructions to remove the upsell (which returned). Fortunately, there is a setting allowing permanently unlocking with face ID.
June 4 2024. Bought another up-sell so editing works. One-time purchase, they say, just like the last one.

### 5/5 — Works Flawlessly

*2024-05-06, version 3.5*

I am thrilled to be using this app and have the ability to share it with family.

The integration with the Mac is a welcome addition over how well this works as a general password manager.

Great work and thank you to the devs!

### 5/5 — Great! Really, really great!

*2024-04-27, version 3.5*

I tried using the app after trying pretty much all the competing apps. All I want is a nice, secure list manager for my passwords without all the added bloat that most others seem to think important. This app fills the bill completely! It does what it purports to do and does it in an elegant and unobtrusive manner. Well done, developers!

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2024-04-26, version 3.5*

That’s such an amazing product! I was very disappointed when you removed the one-time payment as I didn’t buy it back then. I'm so glad I haven't deleted the program and noticed your recent update regarding logo change. Anyway, just to make the long story short - I’ve bought the one-time option to support you and eventually migrate from that major competitor to your product.

### 2/5 — Weird bug in program no stars till fixed

*2024-03-11, version 3.4.5*

I used to be able to enter my entry password to get to my other passwords with ease. No when I type one number or letter in the password box, it highlights the whole thing and the next key i press wipes it out. not sure if this is a lame security feature or just an annoying way to get me to pay for something.

### 5/5 — Love Minimalist!

*2024-03-05, version 3.4.4*

Best password manager on the market. Developer is engaged and responsive to feature requests, works across devices, secure, and isn't a subscription. What more could you want? Would give 6 stars if possible.

### 3/5 — Abandonware?

*2024-02-22, version 3.4.3*

This was a really promising password manager; but with the switch to a subscription only service, and the fact that it hasn’t been updated in 7 months, I can no longer recommend this app, and I’m honestly wondering if it has become abandonware.

### 5/5 — SO FAR SO GREAT

*2024-02-04, version 3.4.3*

I'm auditioning this app as a companion to keychain. I have left 1password. Mainly because it visually blocks the password and user name fields when I'm trying to use keychain.

So far Minimalist presents a polite list below the fields so i can choose whether i want to use it or keychain.

Also there is no off site sycning to their own servers. I can store my password docs on my icloud drive and it will sync.

Liking the simplicity so far. I will report back. I'm most curious to see if it also will fill passwords in on apps, not just websites.

### 5/5 — Very Good

*2023-12-15*

Really happy with this app. I've been using it for a year or more at least on multiple devices - iPhone, iPad, various Macs. I was previously a 1Password user but did not want a subscription.

Some family members compain about it not saving or syncing passwords, but I think they are mixing up iCloud KeyChain and Minimalist in those cases. I have not had any sync issues between devices.

Love the minimalist interface, though Settings is a bit confusing to navigate on Mac. I wish it had a "normal" settings UI for a Mac app rather than an iOS UI.

### 5/5 — Finally! Something who makes sense!

*2023-11-05, version 3.4.3*

"You had me at..Canada"

### 5/5 — Superb

*2023-11-05, version 3.4.3*

I gave up on Wallet by Acrylic Software because it is no longer supported and was getting problems with it. I exported the content into Excel, tidied up as much as I could, then imported into Minimalist. Then the work really began creating my database of secure information.
I have found Minimalist superb. I have designed my own templates (e.g. to keep details of my cars) as well as used their standard ones. It is extremely flexible aand visually very simple and clear.
I was initially concerned it did not have folders/icons for different types of password, but this is not needed. It is better to set the keywords corrected, then everything relevant appears on screen.
Overall extremely pleased and happy to pay a reasonable fee each year for software that is proberly supported.

### 3/5 — iCloud and Mac First

*2023-09-30, version 3.4.3*

Done with relying on Dropbox to share vaults Done with constant nudges towards a subscription model Done with lock-in Done with 1Password and their venture capital founders leeching my wallet In with clean design In with iCloud sync In with a licence not a subscription For the first time in a long search I've found an Apple focussed solution with clarity and simplicity to the fore.

Edit: downgraded to three stars with removal of one-time purchase.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Scam

*2025-10-08, version 3.7*

It was a good app with a developer who seemed to update the app on a regular basis but for some reason I feel that I have been scammed , I bought a lifetime license and that lifetime was really short! Refund?

### 1/5 — Superb PW manager

*2025-01-12, version 3.5.1*

This app feels like the password manager that Apple wanted to make, but didn’t for some reason. Its feature set is perfect, its design is clean, and its word-based password generator is the best I’ve seen.

### 1/5 — Lifetime is gone. Don’t buy.

*2024-01-23, version 3.4.3*

The developers straight up lie and gaslight people by saying “lifetime is and always was a completely unsustainable business model” and yet that’s how software has worked for the majority of its existence.

Get Strongbox, has a one-time payment and developers who are sociopathic in their greed, because you should never trust your private information with people who are not honest and won’t let you own the product.

### 1/5 — Scam app

*2024-01-03, version 3.4.3*

App may be great, but misleading. Should state there is a subscribtion fee before download.

### 1/5 — Didn’t work for me

*2023-09-21, version 3.4.3*

I installed this app on my iPhone and Mac. I was really excited for a real native 1password alternative. I added some logins I routinely use. The auto fill setup was easy, but it simply didn’t fill in safari on the mac or on my iPhone. I sent a video to the developer showing the issue. If the developer fixes it, I’ll change my review but until then I can’t recommend this app.

### 1/5 — Crickets

*2023-06-26, version 3.4.1*

Minimalist was fantastic, and then it just stopped allowing me to edit even though I have a yearly subscription. I’ve followed all of the instructions to restore my purchase, but nothing works and I get a message that the app has logged my issue and will fix in a future release. In the meantime, I’m stuck with passwords that I can’t edit. I also emailed the team and haven’t gotten a response.

Love Minimalist’s commitment to privacy, but their lack of support — not so much.

### 1/5 — Subscription only now

*2023-02-16, version 3.4*

Should've bought this app when it was a buy once, oh well at least I still have 1password 7. Goodbye

### 1/5 — Best thing about this app is no more

*2023-01-24, version 3.4*

It is now a subscription. So unfortunate

### 1/5 — Price jacked up

*2022-12-18, version 3.4*

Been wanting to switch from Bitwarden, happy to wait patiently for a sale. However while waiting the lifetime price has increased $40, absurd! So guess a sale will be the old price, brutal!

### 1/5 — Lovely

*2022-12-15, version 3.4*

I’ve been looking for an alternative for 1password for a while and found this app. I put off purchasing the one time purchase of this app because I’ve lost count of the times an app has promised their one time fee is forever, until magically it isn’t honored and needs a subscription to continue. So I patiently waited for a sale of any kind, only to find on Black Friday the price went from $60 to $100. I have no choice but to purchase now because if a company can raise their prices on a holiday where everything is on sale, surely it’s only a matter of time before they raise the price again to $150 or higher.

Edit: what a disingenuous piece of work the developer is. Literally less than a week after my review they removed the “lifetime purchase” feature, the timing is almost too coincidental to be anything other than spite. They removed a feature purely to spite one anonymous reviewer, is that the kind of company you want in charge of your passwords? The most laughable part is they also removed one of the preview photos of the app across all platforms saying how they understand people hate subscriptions and promise there’s always going to be the ability to lifetime purchase the app. I think I’ll just go back to msecure now, the subscription is cheaper and the developers aren’t snakes and actually understand the meaning of the word “integrity” that this dev is so proud of calling himself.

### 5/5 — Fourth time review and gone . . .

update 10/04/2022
-------------------
This is my third time updating of my review. Started with 3 stars and now I have no choice but to give 5 stars. Man .... cannot believe my eyes. Whenever I update my review, they updated their reply and answered all question. I have started to use Mac since 2007 and this is my first time seeing this kind of developer who really focus on their users and ease the worries.

Base on my experience, if you like to use this app I truly belive you will like it very much like me.

Thanks again for all answers !

To be honest I really like the app but there is a huge BUT..

The first one is this is only to iOS and there is no way I can use it on Andriod or Windows.

Second but is as we all know there are plenty of application on app store and around the world for mac. Only few apps are keep updating and fixing errors.

So I am still not sure whether the Paid version will worth. Do not see any gruntee how long will this app will support. Hope it is not like other app which fail to continue in a short time.

I paid for the service. But today I am haivng an issue with this app. Now apple service is down which include iCloud. I just reinstalled my macOS and install reinstall Minimalist. But when I open the applicaiton, it asked me to recreate a new password wich mean new database. So becareful.
Seems like my previous database will be override when you open the app as a first time when iCloud is down.

### 5/5 — Favorite App 😢

*2026-01-11, version 3.7.1*

It may sound strange, for a password manager, but this is one of my favorite apps. I hate to see it go.
A change I’m requesting is the ability to dismiss the All Good Things banner from the main list. I don’t need the reminder 😭
The developer has always been responsive and friendly to my messages. I’m interested in his future software.

### 5/5 — MAKE IT OPEN SOURCE??? 🔓📖

*2025-12-30, version 3.7.1*

Great App! Sad to see it come to an end.

Can you make it open source so that others can keep it alive?

### 5/5 — Purchase Lifetime License - For What?

*2025-10-06, version 3.7*

Well I purchased a lifetime license for about $90 as I recall, and now I think, FOR WHAT? I guess they will change the name and release a new version with a new name. Sorry you guys couldn’t figure it out.

### 5/5 — Very Good

*2025-10-06, version 3.7*

Too bad this app is ending support. But with Apple Passwords out now, it makes sense, and I’ve mostly switched over to Apple’s app.

Minimalist was my favorite password manager for a few years. Thanks!

### 5/5 — Best simple password manager

*2025-10-03, version 3.7*

This password manager is truly excellent. Simple, does just what you need and no more.
It’s been super affordable too. But, sadly, that means it may have to cease development next year.
Get in there and support these guys. Buy it!

### 5/5 — Minimalist, you will be missed.

*2025-10-01, version 3.7*

I’m so sad to see this app go. It was by far the best password manager. I will likely be using Apple Passwords as a replacement due to its simplicity, but it doesn’t allow the extra fields and attachments. Thanks for the great work while it lasted. Paraphrasing Heraclitus: the only constant in life is change.

### 5/5 — A joy to use!

*2024-11-14, version 3.5.1*

I had been looking for a replacement password manager following many years as a 1Password user. I was attracted to Minimalist via the developer’s excellent website where he details the many advantages of using Apple’s native app technologies in order to build an intuitive, fast and secure product.

An extensive test convinced me that the app met fully all of the claims made by the developer.

This password manager has been professionally built for Apple users and it is exactly what I had been looking for. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending it to others.

### 5/5 — Goodbye to 1Password

*2024-05-24, version 3.5*

Have used 1Password for years as a stand alone app. Tried to upgrade so I could use it on Silicon. Words cannot describe how aggravating and time consuming that was. Hours and hours of emails back and forth. Done now. Tried Minimalist on the advice of some reviewers. Clean (minimalist) interface. Easy to understand and navigate. Options are clear. Would love to see some "theme" options tho'. I think they've got a winner here and I'll spread the word. The MacBook Pro 14" is very happy with it./ Not sure if I'll have to buy another subscription for one more Mac. A

### 5/5 — Clear and effective

*2024-05-20, version 3.5*

Nicely designed to be easy to navigate and still be able to arrange information as needed.
