### 3/5 — Needs text search function

*2022-12-04, version 4.4.0*

It overall works well. Can you add a text search option? When you read a long text it is useful to be able to look for specific text or words. The Wikipedia app has it. If you do so I'll give you 5 stars!

### 4/5 — Offer an option to keep it current?

*2022-03-19, version 4.4.0*

I believe that there is a market for Minipedia users to have the option of subscribing to regular updates to keep it current, rather than just have it as a snapshot in time from when it was purchased. Please advise if this can be or becomes an option.

### 2/5 — Great app, but

*2020-02-08, version 4.2.2*

It’s stupid how you have to pay extra to save additional Wikipedia pages. If it’s all being saved to my device anyways, then why not let me pick and choose how many pages I want to save? And why is that option locked behind a paywall. It’s just pathetic honestly

### 3/5 — I hate the new format.

*2019-05-09, version 4.2.2*

This Minipedia app is terrific, but the new format is really bad. Please return to the old layout and choices.

### 3/5 — Not bad, but (i've laid the FULL price), can be improved

*2018-06-06, version 3.9.1*

All people who are Wikipedia devotès, have all come across, at certain times, those moments when your in need of information from Wikipedia (Wp), and for 'some reason'- you're in a place without a signal or whatever, you just can't get connected, and is frustrating to day the least.

Along comes minipedia which promises to deliver the contents of Wikipedia whether or not you have a signal. How does it accomplish this 'magic'? Simple; it's not magic, it's simply loaded into your device.

I didn't use the free version - everything I would need to use Wp for was not available (surprise, surprise), socu splurged, and rather than getting a piece, I got the whole 'kit and kaboodle', as they used to say.

The time for the whole thing didn't take long (i have an extremely high-speed connection; Gig+), so it only took me a few seconds, but, figure on that (one time) big download as taking some time (it's best to do it before your go to bed, that way, it'll definitely be done when you awake. it's not the length of the download, it's the tediousness, so, i'd rather select 'download', and then - when I've woken up, just finish it, if necessary).

For the full price,I now have the 'luxury'of being able too use Wikipedia no matter what, and that is, for someone like me (and you) - a person(much) moor interested in learning, than playing mindless tripe.- a good thing, indeed.

There's nothing inherently wrong with the so, is more that I think I've been spoiled by using Wikiwand for so long, that I want that clean, simple style incorporated into Minipedia, and hopefully they'll spend time doing an 'Apple' - i.e., making the users... 'experience' as easy, as enjoyable as possible.

I believe they're on the right path, so I'm pretty certain that sooner, rather than laterci be able to update this, and say exactly that, but for now, Minipedia speeds exactly what it promises (the full price version, that is), it just doesn't do it elegantly. Yet.

### 2/5 — Wikipedia data is outdated

*2018-03-23, version 3.9.1*

The data seems to have been last updated in ~2015.

### 5/5 — Internet without an internet connection

*2017-02-12, version 3.9.1*

It's great to have all this information when I don't have a connection, (I have an iPod). I bought the ten dollar encyclopedia, with that version if you type in a word you are very likely to get multiple results (entries with that word in the title).

### 3/5 — Suggestions

*2017-01-01, version 3.9.1*

I bought the $10 plan. I've enjoyed it. Here's some suggestions:

1. When I open a table (say countries of the world and their populations) the back button is at the top of the screen. Then to go back to the last article the back button is at the bottom of the screen. They should be the same, or better yet there shouldn't be buttons, see #2.

2. Swipe left and right should be forward and back like in safari. That way I can confidently click on links and get back to where I was. The menu/search can be accessed from the menu button, or a dedicated search gesture perhaps.

3. Going back should go back to the same location in the article you clicked away from, not the top of the article.

4. The image placeholders are kind of ugly. That's nitpicky I know.

5. The search page should start with the box in the middle of the screen, like the google app so I don't have to reach my thumb all the way up to set the cursor.

6. Random page or suggested page would be nice. I open the app when I'm bored then I have to think of somethign to search for.

Thanks!

### 3/5 — Excellent idea, but so-so implementation

*2016-12-15, version 3.9.1*

Works good mostly. Lots of broken links, some garbage symbols. If only they could fix usability bugs and rethink the interface - would have been perfect.

### 4/5 — Review

*2016-08-01, version 3.9.1*

Just downloaded yesterday and have already gotten valuable info on Art/Artists of the Renaissance Period! Also noticed that support does not seem to be available at this time. The long d/l was worth it; I purchased the XL Edition for only $5.95.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Not working

*2022-04-17, version 4.4.0*

Download is not working, always 0%

### 1/5 — Out of Date Wikipedia

*2021-03-16, version 4.3.1*

I paid for the Bookworm XXL version of the offline Wikipedia and it’s at least year old because there’s nothing about the current Pandemic which started a year ago. When one can use Kiwix to download the entire current Wikipedia, I’d least expect Minipedia to be more current than a year old and in fact, Minipedia should improve to note the date of their database while keeping it as current as possible.

### 1/5 — 🤦🏽‍♂️👎🏽

*2019-04-07, version 4.2.1*

U charge for search?!

### 1/5 — XL pack broken with latest update

*2018-09-10, version 4.0.4*

I purchased the 9.99 XL pack and all was well.
Latest update broke compatibility, “please contact our support to receive a free upgrade to premium”

Followed their preferred method, send several emails, I’m still waiting for them to reply.

Pretty weak.

### 1/5 — Too Old

*2018-04-04, version 3.9.1*

It goes to 2015, we are in 2018

### 1/5 — Junk

*2017-08-27, version 3.9.1*

Can't seem to download the other articles

### 1/5 — Useless without in app purchases

*2017-02-10, version 3.9.1*

Great idea but until you fork over the cash to these money grabbers it's a pointless app that takes up wasted space.

### 1/5 — Scam

*2016-12-03, version 3.9.1*

You got to pay if you read good articles I can just go to Wikipedia read many articles as I want. And they want 9 dollars to read 250,000 articles?I don't think so. I can read a million on Wikipedia for free

### 1/5 — App crashes; developer not responsive

*2016-11-13, version 3.9.1*

The app regularly crashes on certain articles. I've submitted bug reports for months and haven't seen an update or heard from the dev(s). Seems to be abandoned. Definitely do not buy.

### 1/5 — Not Free

*2016-08-04, version 3.9.1*

Dont use free resource to make money

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — The best app

*2020-03-29, version 4.2.2*

### 5/5 — 好

*2019-08-18, version 4.2.2*

nice

### 5/5 — Recommended for those who knowledge

*2019-01-23, version 4.1.0*

Well worth the investment if you value off-line immediate access to the Wiki storehouse of human knowledge. When debating a friend, you’ve got the goods to win your argument hands down with this wiki app, Cordially, Stan R.

### 5/5 — Good for learning a foreign language

*2018-09-19, version 4.0.5*

Use XXL Español for learning Spanish. Great resource! Love that it’s offline. Thanks for the update!

### 5/5 — This app is exciting!

*2017-07-15, version 3.9.1*

I really liked minipedia...

### 5/5 — This works perfect for me...

*2017-04-29, version 3.9.1*

I spend a lot of time off of the grid but I also enjoy having information available to ease my curiosities. I paid for the XXL pack and I am very happy with it. I have had other offline wikis and their overall organization was slack. This one feels like I am online and has imbedded links to other articles as well. Check out the free packs first, if you like it buy the bigger packs. So far, I have not stumped the XXL pack yet.

### 5/5 — It is the best!

*2017-03-09, version 3.9.1*

I really like that app, not too bad after all.
