### 1/5 — Does not work with MINIRIG 4

*2024-03-02, version 0.7.2*

Disappointed that my new £150 speaker doesn’t work with this app. I only wanted to see the battery percentage of the speaker but it seems this is is not compatible with the new MINIRIG 4 (yet)

### 2/5 — Brilliant speaker poor app

*2024-03-02, version 0.7.2*

I love these speakers! Please, please sort out your software.

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2024-02-28, version 0.7.2*

Just bought the minirig 4 and tried for hours to pair it with the app but finally given up.speaker sounds good but let down by terrible app!

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2024-01-05, version 0.7.2*

Speakers sound great. However, this app is positively terrible, numerous connection issues and a non-user friendly interface. Love the speakers but simply cannot use them as I want or should be able to. I have seen similar comments dating back years so the app is clearly not being updated or invested in properly. I bought these purely because I loved my first one (before there was an app). I would not recommend you buy these. If I could have my time again I would go for the UE Boom.

### 1/5 — Terrible app

*2023-10-22, version 0.7.2*

Great speakers, let down by this noddy app. Trying to get two minirigs to connect to each other is like an endurance test. Not for the faint of heart.

### 1/5 — Intermittent connection and pairing

*2023-09-16*

I spend more time waiting, trying to troubleshoot to connect one or both minirig speakers to my iPhone. So, so, frustrating!

### 1/5 — Fab speakers, appalling app

*2023-09-10, version 0.7.2*

The speaker hardware is amazing, sound wise they blow the competition out of the water. The app is simply appalling.

### 1/5 — Disappointing support of the app and the speakers

*2023-09-09, version 0.7.2*

The speakers always lose their stereo pairing and have different levels. The app is of little help and also always loses its settings. I don’t know how many times I deleted all my bluetooth connections and reset the speakers.

### 1/5 — Incredibly frustrating

*2023-07-09, version 0.7.1*

I have to agree with previous comments about this app unfortunately. A product as good as the Minirig speaker deserves an app equally as good, otherwise the whole experience is a let down. I bought 2 speakers for stereo sound and the battle I have to go through to get them to both link to my phone is ridiculous! Sometimes it won’t work at all and will stubbornly just play through one, sometimes after minutes of constant trying it will link both and play great but then intermittently drop out of one speaker, and very occasionally it will play through both from switch on without any issues at all. There seems to be no other explanation for this other than a general disregard for users of the app - almost as if it’s just an afterthought! “We got your money and now you’re on your own” kind of thing. Such a shame because they are great speakers.

### 1/5 — Fantastic Hardware, Poor Quality Software

*2023-06-29, version 0.7.1*

As so many have already stated, MINIRIG are excellent portable Bluetooth speakers from a boutique company.

They have come up with a rather unique interface with respect to the audio jacks on the units and their function, but learning curve for effective usage is not terribly intimidating.

That said, using the speakers can quickly become far more frustrating than it should be when they don't work as expected, which happens often.

This experience is further exacerbated by the app, which is needed to view, update, and validate numerous important settings on the speakers, which is an absolute necessity given their hyper-minimal one-button design.

This design decision is fine; I like the idea on paper, but when 95% of the user interface of the product is in software, that software mist be reliable, and reliable it is not.

I could pardon the lack of UI polish and superfluous bloat (I have no idea who the target demographic is for the Mixtapes feature) if the features that were promised (by virtue of being in the app) actually worked, but many do not.

Connecting to a speaker can itself often require an inordinate amount of troubleshooting, including (but not limited to) performing a factory reset on the speaker. When one finally does succeed in getting the app to connect to a speaker, other issues quickly arise: settings aren't remembered after being changed and UI bugs prevent the user from changing certain settings with confidence.

All of this can conspire to create a scenario wherein during a "live" setting, you may spend upwards of 10 minutes troubleshooting connectivity issues and/or drop-outs even if only trying to use the speakers in wired mode – and especially if trying to use them in wireless mode.

I think MINIRIG have nailed the product vision and hardware design, but going forward they will need to invest considerable resources into their firmware and app to make the product one I could feel comfortable recommending to someone else.

### 1/5 — Great speaker… but the app is horrible.

*2023-06-26, version 0.7.1*

Minirig should take notes from UE Boom app. Let us save custom EQs. Make it connect faster. All around, the app is awful. Speaker would be so much better with a functioning app.

### 1/5 — Great speakers but .....

*2023-06-25, version 0.7.1*

The speakers should absolutely awesome but the app is totally useless, come on MINIRIG sort it out !!

### 1/5 — Lacking

*2023-04-01, version 0.7.1*

Considering the indisputable quality of this range of speakers the inadequacies and bugginess of this app are inexcusable: An update is long overdue.

Update Apr’23: an update to this app is still long overdue, but the speaker unit remains exceptional.

### 1/5 — Great speakers. Terrible app

*2023-03-20, version 0.7.1*

The hardware of the speaker is unmatched for quality. The software however is a nightmare. Sometimes bluetooth stereo pairing works others it doesn’t.

So features work some don’t. Very disappointing

### 1/5 — Utterly frustrating

*2023-02-11, version 0.7.1*

Seriously it’s difficult to imagine a company would release a product so unready for consumer use. I can’t even begin to criticize anything in particular because the whole thing is so broken. Major buyer’s remorse.

### 2/5 — The speaker is a miracle!

*2022-12-29, version 0.7.1*

But, the app is trash. It’s actually better on Android and that’s the only app I’ve encountered where that is true. It runs constantly in the background and yet you can’t silence background activity in the appropriate system menu for this app, at least in iOS 14. It crashes and fails to connect unless you force quit the app. This desperately needs a ground up rework.

### 1/5 — So frustrating

*2022-11-28, version 0.7.1*

Beautifully designed speakers with fantastic sound reproduction.... but.... The app is so frustrating. Sometimes it works well, connect one M3 with SW to another M3 in stereo and plays without bother. Sometimes, it even remembers that they were connected once and will reconnect on switching on. Other times, it’s says the speakers are either not supported (often) or it just times out. So much time taken restarting and resetting each piece, for such a short time of enjoyment before the whole cycle is repeated. Sometimes, going through the manual pairing (double click on master) fails too.... Aaaagh! This is true of both iPad and iPhone versions. I’ve been in touch with support several times, but they do try their best to help, only for me to face the same issue again a few days later. It’s such a pity, as this could be such a joy if only the app was reasonably stable.
When will there be an update?

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Sound good, interface bad

*2025-10-12, version 0.7.2*

The minirigs DO sound great. However the UI is terrible, and as another commenter explained, more than one button would obviously be better. The app to connect everything is buggy and inconsistent, and for me at least, even plugging in with analog jacks is hit and miss. Even when I get it to work, suddenly it will stop for no apparent reason. I keep waiting for a software update to fix it, but hasn't happened. I think the team at Minirigs put all their effort into good sound, but not much into everything else.

### 1/5 — Intermittent connection and pairing

*2025-03-29, version 0.7.2*

I spend more time waiting, trying to troubleshoot to connect one or both minirig speakers to my iPhone. So, so, frustrating! After years of use, it is impossible to pair two speakers!!

### 1/5 — Hot Trash.

*2025-02-01, version 0.7.2*

Does not connect or remember settings easily.

### 1/5 — Abysmal

*2024-12-05, version 0.7.2*

Device is OK, louder than any Bluetooth speaker I’ve ever experienced but this app is unbelievably awful. It’s like a sixth form project but they just couldn’t be bothered to finish it.

### 1/5 — Just won’t work

*2024-08-30, version 0.7.2*

I have 2 Minirig 4s and a subwoofer..set up for 2.1. Speakers are amazing! App is useless, in fact it interferes with the Bluetooth making it actually worse! Such a shame, don’t download it.

### 1/5 — 0/10

*2024-05-03, version 0.7.2*

The worst App EVER!

### 1/5 — Minirig 4

*2024-04-30, version 0.7.2*

150 notes on the MINIRIG four and I can’t even connect to the app , I’ve had all the mini rig series and never been disappointed but surly that should be one of the main things to do when you drop a new speaker 🤷🏼‍♂️

### 1/5 — Great for renaming only and eq

*2024-04-25, version 0.7.2*

Everything else is unreliable and inconsistent

### 1/5 — Still terrible app

*2024-03-25, version 0.7.2*

Thought I’d come and see if the app had been updated. It’s hasn’t so is still worse than useless. So if you’re about to buy I’d say buy only on the basis you won’t use the app - you won’t use it because you can’t, but on the upside, the speakers work fine without it. The instructions for use are good enough to get started, link two units and cut the sound. The app only offers pain and frustration so don’t download it and certainly don’t expect it to enhance your experience. Quite the opposite.

### 1/5 — Horrible connectivity issues

*2024-03-06, version 0.7.2*

Speaker is amazing and I have a few of them, but the app is an embarrassment.. they are introducing a web application now but still not clear if it will be available for the MINIRIG 3 or if it will fix the connectivity issues

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — A man in a dream told me to download this app

*2023-06-19, version 0.7.1*

Sounds incredible!! Love to you Beautiful Bristolians

### 5/5 — It does the job

*2023-04-19, version 0.7.1*

It works perfect. User friendly simple app.

### 5/5 — Amazing speakers and great app

*2021-10-21, version 0.7.1*

The app has never crashed or glitched on my iPhone 12, super solid and jam packed with features. Hard to go back to JBL after getting a taste of the MINIRIG way, they’re just light years ahead.

### 5/5 — Getting better

*2020-07-26, version 0.7.1*

Thank you so much for improving the app, the app is now able to load smoother and entering it is a lot easier now which is very much appreciate it. Thank you again and please keep up the good work.

### 5/5 — It works perfect for me now

*2019-11-27, version 0.6.9*

No more crashes, loops. It works great on iOS 13 and now has preset EQs.

### 4/5 — Gain

*2023-06-28, version 0.7.1*

Please consider low gain as the default or a way to switch it in the firmware using the speaker button

### 4/5 — App not so great

*2021-12-18, version 0.7.1*

The app has stopped working properly and if I’m honest. Not that great. If minirig could spend a little time and money on making the app user friendly and fix bugs it would certainly make this the best buying option for high end cheap speakers.
As for unison, I’ve never had an issue. Needed to watch a 1 min vid to understand how to link properly and from then on I’ve had many a party with amazing sound and never an issue.
The speakers them selfs are unbeatable in every way. Absolutely love them. Can’t wait to own more. A minirig 4 with 80watts would be amazing guys. 😉

### 4/5 — Nice options

*2020-06-24, version 0.7.1*

Minirigs are the best sounding Bluetooth speakers out there!! Made & designed in the uk!!

The app opens up some nice features e.g. remember gain settings / eq / pairing / if u activate standby you can turn them on / off from the app etc

If I’ve faced any issues i have reset the speaker via the app and all is good again!

...and it also has some pretty nice playlists for different genres!

### 4/5 — Unusable app crashes after recent update

*2020-02-27, version 0.7.1*

iPhone 11- app is now unusable after update, albeit it hasn’t been great but it did at least work once you got past the initial connection issue (x12) times. Needs lots of work, while the speakers are great i always dread using the app. I’ve also noticed severe connection issues when connected speakers with app in use. I’m giving a favorable 4 star for now because it was working mostly ok before. Needs fixing though, this needs priority.

### 4/5 — Good complement of features, design okay.

*2020-01-07, version 0.6.9*

To put things into perspective, I have a pair of B&O Play A1s, whilst the app for that leaves a lot to be desired, it is pretty.

This app is the opposite, it’s ugly and the interface feels odd. But aesthetics aside, it is much more functional than the beoplay counterpart, adjusting gain, EQ and other settings through the app was good. I haven’t tried to pair two mini rigs just yet, but with just one mini rig 3 and a mini rig sub 3 I’m pleasantly surprised at how well it works.
