The feeling of satisfaction when solving a cryptic crossword clue under par or even with no hints used is spectacular! And the daily explanation video is such a treat - it has to be the part of the crossword that I look forward to the most. Great work!! Some of the par assignments don’t quite make sense, but otherwise they’re different than other word games. The premium price is steep considering you only get one game. Not any more! I love this app because I can now learn how to solve the clues either by using the hints or if I’ve solved it by dumb luck, I can work backwards to see how I could have solved it without the guess work. I also really enjoy the accompanying videos that show how abstract some of the answers are and how an experienced cryptic crossword solver goes about finding that answer. ### 4/5 — 4… *2025-09-26* …until they make a night-mode. However I didn’t see a clear link to their website. Only a link to preorder the book. They are thrilling to solve, ranging from easy to nearly impossible, but there are hints to help you with the harder ones. When you figure it out you always come away thinking how ingenious they are and not feeling like it was a stupid trick. I’ve been playing it on safari for a while. Great to see it has its own app! It would be great to see a Mini-crossword edition as well :) maybe added in the future. But the simplicity of the app is maybe what makes it so appealing. App is terribly built, cannot log in with Apple at all, have been trying for 40 minutes but the MC logo appears over the login, and I have to go back to the start. I use Apple login for everything and have never had issues with app integration like this before **Developer response:** Thanks for letting us know Rex! It's the result of a change that I made that had unintended consequences for the Apple login. I've just updated the app to address this and it should all be working now. Please let me know how you go this time! Thanks, Angas ### 1/5 — Worlds slowest cryptic crossword puzzle *2024-12-31* Be prepared to spend forever to complete one cryptic crossword puzzle. The app only gives you one clue to solve. Then you have to wait until the next day for another clue. I estimate the time to complete an entire puzzle to be around one to two months. ### 2/5 — Cancel impossible *2026-02-23* You’re an app. If I can sign up in the app I should be able to cancel membership in the app. This is ridiculous ### 2/5 — Ethnically incorrect *2025-02-08* Second day with this app and while I love the concept I was very disappointed to see the wonderful Middle Eastern dish ‘kebab’ described as British! Colonialism Rules. **Developer response:** Ah, I think this is an unfortunate misunderstanding! In (almost all) cryptic crossword clues there's a definition and wordplay. The definition and the answer are directly related, much like a normal crossword clue. The wordplay is only related to the answer indirectly. The clue you're referring to is "British Bake Off food held together by spit?" If "British" was part of the definition, then I would agree that it's an ethnically incorrect clue. But "British" is part of the wordplay. We abbreviate "British" to B, add it to BAKE, and anagram those letters to get KEBAB (the anagram indicator is "Off"). The word "British" here isn't implying that kebabs are British - it's simply giving us a B in the wordplay. The definition part of this clue is "food held together by spit?", which is attempting to describe a kebab, specifically a doner kebab, which is made of meat cooked on a vertical spit. That's really the only thing that this clue is saying about a kebab. So, to summarise, this clue is in no way saying that kebabs are British!! Thanks, Angas ### 3/5 — Good but…. *2025-07-03, version 1.1.2* The game itself is great, but in order to track stats you have to create an account. To create an account requires an emailed code, but the delay between requesting the code and actually receiving it results in the code no longer being valid when you try to enter it. Super frustrating! ### 3/5 — Love Minute Cryptic but App could be improved *2024-12-06* Love minute cryptic. I’m on a 140 day streak and it’s taught me how to do cryptic crossword clues! Happy you’ve created an app. But I would say it doesn’t feel very smooth to use. Mainly the keyboard on the app feels a lot worse to use than just doing it through safari browser. ### 4/5 — Really clever *2026-05-08* This is a very cool little puzzle app. I think it would be a much better experience if the devs added a little bit of sound when taping on things which would make the experience more immersive. Also, when using the scribble pad it would be so much better if the buttons that pop up were on the bottom of the pad where our thumbs were.
