### 4/5 — Just Subscribe for a Month!

*2020-06-26, version 9.0*

I’ve downloaded many spanish teaching apps, and this is the only app that i can fully recommend to anyone who wants to learn basic spanish. Unlike other apps, it explains how words and sentences are formed. You won’t just be memorizing words and phrases. For instance, when you encounter a new verb, you would know how to use it properly in different tenses. I’m gonna deduct a star though because of the quizzes. Especially in the latter chapters wherein the quizzes reeked of laziness. Imagine a timed question wherein the choices are all long sentences, and the only difference between the choices are the placement of accents, or a single different vowel. I’ve shown this to several native spanish speakers and they agreed because even they made mistakes! Also, take note that this app hasn’t been updated for years. Just pay for a month’s subscription then cancel your subscription immediately. As long as you finish all lessons after one month (145 total) these lessons will still be viewable even after the subscription lapses. Shame Mirai has stopped updating their language apps, their apps are very effective. I also learned basic french using their french app which is no longer available on the app store.

### 3/5 — Not enough grammar?

*2018-03-19, version 8.0*

I’m glad this app got updated to iOS 11 so that it works again.

I’m about half way through the entire course (which no longer is updated it seems) and my main thought so far is that there is too much vocabulary and not enough grammar.

Vocab is easy to find for yourself with any dictionary online but grammar is harder to learn. This course could have been perfect if it concentrated on more grammatical aspects.

Example, I still don’t know how to say that I’ve done things in the past or how to conjugate verbs fully (tú and vosotros not even mentioned yet) nor the imperative. [EDIT: It looks like these things will be featured after all.] I dare say the course will run out of lessons before the subjunctive mood is brought up but I don’t know whether that’s important in every day speech.

If it’s possible, I will update this review when I’ve finished.

### 4/5 — Expensive

*2015-10-22, version 7.4.2*

It's very good, but it's expensive. It costs more than how good it is.

### 4/5 — Pretty Good

*2015-10-09, version 7.4.2*

I have been using this app for a while (6 months)but I can say I have had more fun learning Spanish with this app. Although this app initial installment version was much better, this version has proven useful. In addition it is a far better learning tool than the boring hours spent using the Rosetta Stone method. The other upside to using this economic learning tool it helps you to retain more by teaching you the finer points of this language. Incredible!

### 4/5 — Very good app but

*2015-09-24, version 7.4.2*

One thing is missing in app..this thing is possibility of playing lessons by lessons in one touch, when listening on headphones with my phone in a pocket i dont have time to unlock the phone to turn on and play every lesson one by one. That will be very helpful for learning at work or driving the car. Thx

### 3/5 — Pretty good

*2015-06-25, version 7.4.2*

I like the format though one big gripe that I have is that the Spanish speaking woman talks too darn fast.
The hombre is perfect.
Additionally, I think they spent too much, a whole lesson, on Nationalities. I could have used a lot less of that.
All in all, I will continue to use it. I bought the 1st month subscription. I will see if I go beyond that.

### 3/5 — Where is the content?

*2015-02-07, version 7.4.2*

Good app for beginners. Monthly subscription but no new content released for over two months. What am I paying for?

### 4/5 — Good fun

*2015-01-04, version 7.4.2*

Enjoy using this one

### 3/5 — More content needs adding

*2015-01-02, version 7.4.2*

I used this app to learn Spanish and I found it pleasant and simple to use, learn, and understand easy. I decided to subscribe after being happy with my free lessons. I subscribed for a month at first and I managed to complete all lessons available. I renewed my subscription however only a few lessons were added. Over the following months this new added content kept becoming more spaced out over longer periods to a point where I would pay a whole subscription period with no new content getting added even with the newest software update. Please sort this out mirai, you have no problems when reminding me to renew my subscription to take my money. Please give us what we are paying for.

### 4/5 — Quite good

*2014-09-29, version 7.4.2*

I am thru beginner stage and quite impressed with this program - thee are a few mistakes here and there - the need a feed back procedure so problems can be fixed - that said it is the best thing I have found😀

### 5/5 — Excelente! Well written

*2014-08-08, version 7.4.2*

Mirai Spanish is an excellent start for the beginning Spanish speaker. I'll have to update my review when I complete the course.

### 5/5 — Very Engaging

*2014-08-07, version 7.4.2*

I have several language apps on my iPhone. I find this app to be one of the better organized and engaging ones. Many other apps are purely vocabulary builders. This one teaches grammar/pronunciation in a easy to follow and learn process.

### 5/5 — Tagalog!

*2014-07-04, version 1.3*

I would really love to see a Tagalog version; the Filipino language!

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2014-06-27, version 7.4.1*

I love how this app is organised into lessons. The quizzes are very helpful, too.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Bricked after iOS 11

*2017-09-19, version 7.4.2*

This app has now become useless after iOS 11. Considering there haven’t been any updates in a long time, I can only assume this app is now dead. Don’t download and pay if you’re on iOS 11!!!

### 1/5 — Mediocre

*2014-10-30, version 7.4.2*

This app used to be a lot better before the updates. They have sacrificed the learning potential of the application, in favor of brow beating you with the finer points of Spanish spelling. You will get so frustrated picking from 3-4 choices to an answer, that are identical, except for an accent mark that denotes nothing more than syllable emphasis, over and over, that you will want to uninstall. Very little learning will take place.

**update**

After purchasing this at full price, the company has decided to screw everyone that bought it at full price, and make it a pay as you go app. Be warned don't buy!

### 1/5 — $10 a month fee

*2014-05-20, version 7.4*

I purchased this app for dollar 99 years ago and use it ever cents. I loved it it was great. However, I just reset my settings so I can start over in the chapters and now it's saying that I have to pay $10 a-month subscription for it to see more than five chapters.

### 1/5 — Bad update

*2013-12-23, version 7.0*

The new update is awful. I paid for the app precisely because it was a self contained course minus subscriptions fees etc. this latest "version" is basically a brand new app which potentially costs a lot more, it should not be classed as an update but rather it should be a separate app.

Bring back the original app that a lot of people paid for

### 1/5 — Please fix update...just sits there

*2013-10-28, version 5.2*

Could you please fix the update so it'll update. Its just sitting in "Updates" saying that it's installing....but it isn't. Sure wish I could get it out of there. It's been there for months.

STILL SITTING IN UPDATE.....AFTER 6 MONTHS!!!!

Lowered rating....it'll go back up if it's ever fixed but at this rate I'm not hopeful.

This program is good for understanding the basics of Spanish! Believe me, it's money well spent.

This program is very comprehensive in its teaching of all the basics...it doesn't skip anything you need to know.

One suggestion....redo the 'Stress' section. It doesn't help to hear the female say very slowly a word like ninguno....'nin...gu...no' with no stress on a syllable. She needs to say the word naturally as the male does and stress one syllable.

Also, the narrator needs to learn to pronounce 'pronunciation'. It's not pro'NOUNC'iation but pro'NUN'ciation.

Otherwise an invaluable app!!!

Would I buy an advanced version? Yes.

Edit: I need to know the pronunciation of the single "L" since the double L is "ya". But I can't find it.

The pictures on the update are good but I hunger for more content.

This App has the potential to be by far the best for Spanish instruction. Please give us more content.

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2012-12-28, version 5.1.1*

iPhone 5- iOS 6.0- continuously crashes and kick off app

### 2/5 — Good Info, SCAM payment structure

*2018-04-25, version 8.0*

The app itself is pretty solid in offering the basics of the Spanish language. The payment structure stinks of a scam. If you are going to subscribe, pay for the one month, download all the lessons and cancel the subscription. I basically paid $100 for content I could have gotten for $6.99. I signed up for the 6 month subscription for $50 +tax which renews automatically. For those six months they have not added any additional classes yet they still charged me another $50 to renew . I had already finished all the lessons they had so basically they charged me $50 for nothing. If you are going to charge people for a monthly subscription then you should at least add lessons regularly otherwise just charge a one time fee or charge per unit. You can’t keep charging people every month for the same exact content for 6 plus months. And also a warning that the subscription will renew before charging would be more honest and will at lest give the customer an option to cancel the subscription.

### 2/5 — UPDATE!!!

*2017-02-12, version 7.4.2*

App needs update!!!

### 2/5 — Wow

*2016-03-19, version 7.4.2*

So I purchased this app at full price and they've updated it and now it is a pay as you go. The initial version was better. It allowed you to see all the sections that were being read out loud. Now the boxes before and after a whited out so I can ONLY see what is currently being read. Frustrating because you have to click back when before all you had to do was glance up to catch a word you maybe have missed. Also, it doesn't keep track of where you are. It is divided into chapters and each chapter has lessons but it's just really difficult to remember what chapter/section you left off on. I dont know. I'm looking for a new app at this point.

### 2/5 — Abandonware?

*2015-12-03, version 7.4.2*

No updates since July 2014. Dead website. Corporate website “News” section not updated since 2013. Yet they’re still offering to sell you subscriptions.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Logical learning

*2025-12-17, version 9.0*

I love Mirai! I started with Mirai Japanese and loved how it teaches grammar and sentence structure of a language, the actual rules of that language, and how A + B +C =ABC, then you can infer.. ohh that means A+B+D=ABD and A+C+D = ACD, etc. For example. (I, you, he) ( Did, like to, will), then (eat, sleep, learn). Now i can say “he likes to eat, I will sleep, I did like to eat, you will learn”, and all other possible combinations of those. So much better than all the horrible multiple choice memory based learning apps!!! You can also click to play, so you can learn at your own speed and click to repeat things as many times as you want to hear it. You can go into settings and speed it up or slow it down, You can learn in a way that you want. When he asks how to say something, i highly recommend pausing it to say it aloud to yourself, then playing it again to see if you guessed correctly based on what you have already learned! I also write a journal of different combinations of sentences from what i have learned for the day. I was so happy to find out there is also a spanish version!!! So happy!! And it does both Spanish from Spain and Mexico at the same time!! It solved all of the problems and misunderstandings from all of the other apps for Spanish right off the bat! Now i need more Mirai in other languages!!

### 5/5 — Very good

*2023-08-22, version 9.0*

This is so good. Somehow the spanish sinks in and i remember it.
I have only trialed it so far . But as no updates for 3 years reluctant to have a subscription.

### 5/5 — Great App.

*2021-12-09, version 9.0*

I really like this learning method. This app. will really help you learn! The app. starts with the basics and gives clear explanations and has native speakers. A fantastic app. overall, though I really would like a flashcard facility - that I could customise.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2016-01-22, version 7.4.2*

I've tried at least half a dozen or more apps for learning Spanish and this is by far my favorite one. It's easy to learn and very informative. Presents the information in a clear way.

### 5/5 — Great for absolute beginners

*2015-12-12, version 7.4.2*

This app begins with proper pronunciation, which is easily the most important part of learning a new language. It doesn't matter if you know words when your accent is so strong no one can understand what you are saying! Highly recommend this app for anyone starting out with the language.

### 5/5 — Super helpful app

*2015-12-09, version 7.4.2*

I finished the course on duolingo recently and still felt like I needed a lot more guidance, especially when it comes to understanding grammar as duolingo doesn't really explain anything...this course does a really good job of explaining things in detail- although I know most of the vocabulary and grammar already as I'm going through this, I didn't know all the why's for certain sentence structures. I had simply memorized the correct way to say something, but that doesn't help me when I need to figure out how to structure new sentences.

I really enjoy this app, I think it's good for beginners AND intermediate Spanish speakers. Totally worth the $

### 5/5 — Great app

*2015-08-08, version 7.4.2*

This course is really fun to use and is quite addictive because of the quizzes. Unless you pass the quiz for a chapter you cannot progress to the next one. Looking forward to new chapters.

### 5/5 — Very good!!

*2015-02-17, version 7.4.2*

I am using this together with Duolingo and really like the combo.

### 5/5 — the best

*2014-11-16, version 7.4.2*

I find duolingo too casual and with inadequate explanations. This one is the best with a systematic approach. Really helpful for me to understand the rules so that I can apply to more situations.

One minor issue: Chapter 9 Lesson 43. In the text 6am is said to be "las seis DE mañana" whereas in all the subsequent quiz and super quiz questions de was replaced with POR. this is very confusing and it seems DE is the correct usage.

### 5/5 — Mr Adam

*2014-08-12, version 7.4.2*

Very good app O am waiting for next level I hope it will be released soon good job.
