## What is Mirino?

Mirino turns your iPhone or iPad into a simple, intuitive star finder. Want to know where a planet or constellation is in the night sky? Choose it from our catalog and follow the compass guides. Wondering what you're looking at? Just point your device at it. Every object comes with a large picture and a full description.

FIND
Choose the Moon, a planet, a space station, a star or constellation, a galaxy, a meteor shower or the Milky Way from the targets catalog. Guide dots on the compass lead you to it and, when your aim is right, the target's picture appears.

DISCOVER
Switch to Discover mode and sweep your device across the sky. Mirino shows you what you're pointing at, with its name and a beautiful image that updates as you move. Turn your device sideways for a larger picture.

GO DEEPER
Descriptions open onto what lies within: every planet's moons, features of the Sun, Moon and Mars, the comets behind meteor showers, and gems like the Pillars of Creation and the Horsehead Nebula. Planets show tonight's phase, size and distance.

SEE THE SKY BEHIND THE COMPASS
Set the camera to Scope or Full to see the live sky behind the compass rose. On a dark night, Night Boost brightens the view so faint objects show more clearly.
Constellation images turn to match the sky, with optional star names and true star colors.

PATH IN THE SKY
Tap the center of the compass, with the camera on, to draw your target's path across the sky: where it rises and sets, each hour along the way, and where it is now. Each target's description adds a graph of how high it climbs tonight, and satellites show tonight's passes.

LIVE SKY
Turn the compass ring, or touch and hold its picture, and your target flies onto the sky. A constellation's stars and lines are drawn over the camera where they really are; any other object is enlarged and pinned to its place in the sky.

TONIGHT
One tap lists the best things to see from where you are tonight: the Moon, the brightest planets, space station passes, meteor showers near their peak, and the finest stars and deep-sky objects. Tap one and Mirino guides you to it, or tap its bell for a reminder. Alerts flag supermoons, lunar eclipses, meteor peaks and planets at their best.
A forecast for the dark hours shows cloud, temperature, wind and rain.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.15 — 2026-10-23

• Best Now and Recent: with Pro, the top of Find's Targets list now shows the four best sights in tonight's sky and the last four targets you chose.
• Calibrate on the stars: as well as the Sun, Moon, Venus and Jupiter, the Calibrate button now appears for Sirius, Alpha Centauri and Capella, so there's something bright to calibrate on almost every night.
• With the camera on Full, touch and hold anywhere on the sky to open the Live Sky, not just the compass.
• Left Red Mode on overnight? It now switches itself off when you open Mirino in daylight.
• A tidier Help page: each section shows a one-line summary, with the details just a tap away.

### 1.14 — 2026-10-19

• Find without looking: turn on Homing in the settings row, and haptic taps and tones will guide you to your target, speeding up as you get close.
• Go deeper: every planet's description now includes its moons and features, from Io and Titan to Pluto's tiny Styx, Jupiter's Great Red Spot, Saturn's rings and hexagon, and Pluto's heart. Each has its own picture and information.
• Explore the Moon and the Sun, free for everyone: the Sea of Tranquility, Copernicus and the Apollo 11 landing site, sunspots, prominences and the corona of a total eclipse.
• See the comets which cause the meteor showers, from Halley's Comet to Phaethon, the asteroid that makes the Geminids.
• Find the hidden gems in the deep sky: the Pillars of Creation, the Horsehead Nebula, the black hole at the center of our galaxy, and beautiful double stars like Albireo and Mizar.
• Constellations now link to the stars and deep-sky objects inside them, and every star, nebula and galaxy links back to its constellation. Tap a picture to go straight to it.

### 1.13 — 2026-10-17

• Path in the Sky: Tap the center of the rose to draw your target's path across the live camera view: where it rises and sets, a mark at each hour, and a green dot where it is now. Tap anywhere to hide it. Works in Find and Discover camera views, and in the Live Sky view. You can also tap "Show Path in Sky" in any object's description.
• Altitude graph: Every description now shows how high the object climbs through the night, with twilight shading, rise and set, its highest point and direction, and where it is right now.
• Space station passes at a glance: The ISS, Tiangong and Hubble show each of today's passes as a dot at its highest point. Filled dots are the ones you can actually see, labeled with which way to look.
• Star names shortcut: Tap with two fingers on the constellations to show or hide their names of their main stars.

### 1.12 — 2026-10-14

• More accurate star positions in the Live Sky view.
• A clearer Quick Start for new users.
• Other minor fixes and improvements.

### 1.11 — 2026-10-12

• Live Sky: touch and hold a constellation on the compass and it zooms out onto the real sky, its stars laid over the camera in their actual locations.
• Or you can turn the compass bezel - that zooms out too.
• Do the same for other objects - the Moon and planets, galaxies, space stations - to see them larger, pinned to their actual locations in the sky above you.
• If you lose sight of your object, an arrow at the edge of the screen shows which way to turn, and a crosshair shows where you're pointing.
• If the drawn stars are not properly aligned with the real ones, drag them into line. That calibrates the compass, so aiming is more accurate everywhere else in the app.
• Every constellation's main star is now ringed: gold for the bright stars listed in the catalog, silver for all the others.
