Regarding direct export, did you know that on iPad you can drag-and-drop projects from our audio editors (Hokusai and Ferrite) into the Mitosynth Audio Library? The included presets pulled me towards West Coast style modular synthesis textures although you can use it more traditionally if you like but to that end I think it needs A better selection of presents. Minus one star for not including AudioCopy paste compatibility. ### 5/5 — Fantastic synth app *2016-09-13, version 1.2.11* I've had this app for a while now and absolutely love it. The sound, interface, and appearance are all top notch. It is perfectly designed for a touch interface, and I especially like that it is universal as well. I can work on a patch at a bus stop on my iPhone, then finish it on my iPad at home. Brilliant! I honestly can't think of any ways to improve upon it. Overall it's an impressive addition to any synth enthusiast's arsenal. Mitosynth has a remarkable array of timbre, modulation, and effect options, presented in a non-traditional way. Instead of a mod matrix, it uses nested menus under any variable parameter, and there are a great many of those. Considerably more than most iOS synths have. ### 5/5 — À Gem *2016-09-13, version 1.2.11* Great sounding app. I like the interface and how tweakable the sounds are. ### 5/5 — One of the best synths on iOS *2016-08-18, version 1.2.9* Mitosynth is a very deep app. The wave chamber mixing approach is great, and you can use not only wave shapes but imported and supplied samples. The ability to keep on adding modulation at increasingly nested levels makes this synth unique in the iOS world. With that feature you can create patches that are continously shaped. Great for ambient pads therefore if one takes the time to do that patch creation, but also great for leads, basses, etc. as well. There is a comprehensive 34 page manual which is accessible right from the opening screen and makes navigation a breeze. There are also additional patch sets available for free on the net. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Once wonderful *2023-04-09* Crashes. Always. In standalone and IAA. Figure it is abandonware. Too bad. Has a lot of lovely sounds and many presets. Crashes. A lot. But i already said that. Buyer be wary. ### 2/5 — Update please *2020-11-25, version 1.2.20* Please update and adapt to AU as this synth is one of the BEST ever and needs some love as it is getting so hard to integrate into AUM and iPad music making workflow. Grain Science is better. ### 3/5 — Sounds good… *2022-05-10, version 1.2.20* But as said elsewhere, a bit quiet compared to others & tbf I shouldn’t have to monkey around with the gain all the time just to make it consistent.. Moot point maybe, as this app appears to have been abandoned… ### 3/5 — So so *2020-08-14* Can load samples, and has a waveform painter, both of which are nice. But has no FM modulators or noise generators. So it lacks some features. Sounds overall sound kind of cheap, not sure why. Also, things seemed kind of glitchy. Keys getting stuck, or you reload the project and it sounds different, or you remove a reverb but you still hear it. Doesn't appear that the dev is adding new features anymore. ### 3/5 — No AUv3 *2019-07-31, version 1.2.18* Excellent synth, you can just play the presets, or if you dive into it, it gets very deep. Nearly didn’t buy it, as I’m trying to restrict all my apps to those that support AUv3. I think the interface is very creative looking and the wave chamber is a great concept. I’ll probably use it for stringish pads. I hope it gets more robust in future updates. ### 3/5 — Maybe I'm missing the point.... *2014-10-02, version 1.2* ...but. The blurb for this says "Synths without the spaghetti" - so I'm to take that as "easy to use" or am I off the mark? I'll begin by pointing out that this synth sounds epic, the presets do it great justice, but the user interface is a bit too mystic for my liking. I openly embrace new ways approaching synthesis, the iOS platform openly encourages it, but this is not a pleasant experience for me. It makes me want to get all old fashioned and bemoan that there's a good reason synths are laid out in that gloriously old fashioned way. Things would be better if it were not for opening sub menu after sub menu, stabbing in the dark until some hidden tab popped up to point the way. I like to experiment, not tap endlessly to get to where I want to be, the whole thing could be a lot more friendly, opening up the access to what is a truly nice sounding, powerful synth. Don't treat us like idiots, there's a lot of pretty clued up users out there. I'd love to rave about how nice and unique this is, but I feel the dev has missed the point and a real trick by making it so ridiculously convoluted. 5 stars for the sound, 3 for the delivery, and the delivery sticks to how often I can be bothered to include it into a project 😳 Jinxpadlock ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Sonic indulgence, beautiful and expansive! 🦋 *2024-02-25, version 1.2.20* I’m so glad this incredible sounding and highly unique synthesiser still works as solidly as it always did (despite its age) it remains an iOS legend and a very much cherished instrument! Naturally, I’d happily pay for it again if it were re-released as an AU or Apple Silicon version as I’d love to use it with AUM within a broader modern system! Its sound is absolutely unique and distinct (as it its beautiful, thoughtfully designed GUI) as it allows you to combine multiple synthesis types to create rich, sophisticated, evolving, sonic worlds and any other sounds including crunchy bass’, searing leads or organic phenomena …its really deep! Mitosynth also has unique sonic qualities that always make it sound utterly distinct and original (unlike anything else I’ve heard TBH) …a hybrid combination of LoFi, HiFi, Digital, and Analogue timbre …its a beautiful rare and exotic life form! ### 5/5 — Great app *2022-03-28* Great app get it ### 5/5 — Powerful synth *2021-04-07, version 1.2.20* One of my fav soft synths. Perfect for importing samples too. Hopefully it will get an update as an AU extension to enable multiple Mitosynths to run in AUM. ### 5/5 — Amazing sounding synth *2020-05-24, version 1.2.20* ‘It’s a bit quiet’ I read somewhere. Turn the gain up then. This synth is super deep, modular without all the wires. If you’re coming from a standard synthesis background it will take a while to get your head around but this thing has a sound that I can only describe as ‘Cinematic’. It’s not your bread and butter analogue style Moog,Jupiter/Juno offering. It has a sound that’s very hifi , it can sound quite ‘additive synthesis’ or quite ‘fm’. I think maybe the closest to it in character on the desktop is Absynth. You can get huge cinematic pads, massive (but at the same time clean) warping basses, it loads samples, creates outer space sound fx ( not your usual two random Lfo stuff), it has a great in-built reverb and a chain of other FX etc etc etc. I hope it goes Auv 3 purely to keep up on newer/future iOS but I keep an old iPad on iOS 9 for older synths anyway. When that goes belly up...I don’t know in some instances. That’s the only problem with the iOS model and not being able to back up apps and not being able to back up the operating system and reload it on a newer iPad. These things WILL disappear eventually much like some 90s hardware synths etc built on unreplaceable ASICS (stuff like z1 springs to mind) which is a shame because this synth in particular is so deep it really does have enough to keep you going for a lifetime. ### 5/5 — Interesting *2019-12-02, version 1.2.20* It has loads of things that I don’t have much clue about, but it makes, using the presets, a very, very nice set of flute sounds. Probably does a gazillion things that I must now learn how to do. It has HELP, which is a big thing, these days, we buy games when we buy games, apps when we buy apps... and it seem to always stay up-to-date and I can just use it, without hassle. Other app developers would do well to adopt these types of strategy - I’ve written this review, largely to illustrate what a lot of people are seeing these days and becoming very frustrated about. Biggest one? Subscriptions; >> it’s OK, it doesn’t! Hopefully never will. << Developers need to understand, about subscriptions, that people don’t care how well their company is doing - it is not their problem and then you want to twist their arm or more money? So this rant is IN FAVOUR OF THIS DEVELOPER - keep on doing do as YOU do, keep making what attracted us to the app in the first place the best that it can be AT THAT JOB. ### 5/5 — Was a useful app when IAA/ Audiobus ruled *2019-11-06* Sadly, now it’s just a toy since all the “new” apps like NanoStudio 2 use AU. AU is right there in the app like a vsti. I’m only purchasing apps that have this feature going forward. Unfortunately, this app is legacy. I’ll never use it anymore outside of boredom. Hopefully they will implement AU, but I doubt it. They could, Synth One is saying it’s in the works for their app. We’ll see I guess. ### 5/5 — Just what I was after *2019-09-15, version 1.2.18* Finally, after much searching, THIS is the synth I need to provide haunting soundscapes behind dustbowl guitar. It does very strange manipulation to your own samples, as well as the included. I find this synth as deep as absynth at times and that puts it into interesting territory.
