## What is Mjølnir Swedish?

LEARN SWEDISH / LÄR DIG SVENSKA!
Mjølnir is a language learning app developed specifically for Swedish, with English as a starting point. It combines the high-quality content of a textbook, the interactivity of a smartphone app, and the effectiveness of a memorization tool based on spaced repetition.

SWEDISH PRONUNCIATION, VOCABULARY, AND GRAMMAR
Our app covers the hundreds of key notions of pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary needed for fluency. You will learn exactly the content required to reach the B1 level first (lower intermediate), and then to progress towards the B2 level (upper intermediate). We have carefully organized all our content by frequency of use: this ensures that you always learn the most useful words or grammar points, giving you the best possible return on the time spent studying.

FLASHCARDS AND EXPLANATIONS
Mjølnir utilizes flashcards not only for vocabulary but also for practicing grammar and pronunciation, while providing explanations and context. Flashcards naturally combine theory and practice by teaching you a notion or a concept first, to then test your recollection and understanding of it a few minutes later. Additionally, all our flashcards include audio recorded by native speakers, covering different dialects and accents. Nothing of what you'll hear is software generated!

SPACED REPETITION FOR LONG-TERM MEMORISATION
Spaced repetition is a proven, effective method for learning and practicing large amounts of information. Our scheduling system will make you review words and rules at exactly the right time. This will efficiently move your Swedish language knowledge from your short-term memory to your long-term memory. You will learn new notions every day and, after a week or so, you’ll be surprised by how you'll have them committed to memory, almost effortlessly.

PREPARE FOR EXAMS: SWEDEX, TISUS, YKI and SVA
If you are studying for Swedex, TISUS or any of the other exams, Mjølnir provides the necessary notions and knowledge needed for these tests.
If you are looking for a serious and results-orientated tool for mastering the Swedish language, you might have found the right app!

### 5/5 — Deceptively good value

*2026-07-16*

My favorite language learning tool, period! It’s so good for building a foundation, even with a few minor issues. They use spaced repetition, which is a simple, but incredibly effective tool for learning Swedish (and pretty much anything). You can customize the number of cards you get each day, and you can set rest days, in case you feel overwhelmed or fall behind. The design is clean and simple, and I haven’t encountered any bugs. Two things I’d change are that I wish you could save progress between devices (if you contact support they may be able to help, but it isn’t a default option), and I do wish you had the ability to play audio at half speed, because some longer sentences can be a bit difficult to understand at the full, natural soeed. But overall, they polished this and poured so much work into it that it really does make you appreciate that they’re focusing on doing the Nordic languages extremely well, in a quality over quantity sorta way. To me, this is better than doing 40+ languages with a standardized system with robotic voices. They use native speakers for each card, who all speak at a natural, real life pace, which is a HUGE improvement over what I’m used to even if it can be a little bit difficult to understand audio at first. Customer service is also excellent and was super helpful for me. $80 seems kind of steep for a year, but a few months in, I honestly feel like it’s incredible value for a streamlined, polished, effective learning tool with folks behind it who really do care about doing it right. 5/5, this is such a nice foundation for learning Swedish, especially when—because it isn’t a super popular language for foreigners to learn—resources are a bit limited unless you live there. Which I do not. Maybe some day.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your review! We'll look into better synchronisation between devices. All the best for your studies!

### 5/5 — Excellent

*2026-07-10*

Wonderful learning tool with great functionality and customer support. Extremely happy with it and the progress I’ve made with it so far!

### 2/5 — Forced portrait/veritcal view

*2026-06-26*

Unfortunately the forced portrait view doesn’t work for me. I have my iPad set up in a keyboard carrier case and I never use it vertically. It’s prohibitively awkward to try and use vertically. Can’t comfortably set it up the tablet to use properly for this app. It’s the only app/program I use that forces vertical use and I don’t really want to have to fuss with a tablet set up that works for me just to use one app. Very disappointing.

**Developer response:** Hello, point taken, we are doing some refactoring and we'll look into this. Hope to have you back at that point, feel free to reach out to support so we can message you when it's done.

### 5/5 — So good

*2026-03-27*

I’ve been using this app for two months, coming from near-zero Swedish, and it quickly became the core of my learning because of how clearly effective and efficient it is.

The daily lessons are motivating. The quality is top-notch. The most important concepts are introduced early and drilled until you really know them.

Finally, it’s easy to skip any item you already know, so you’re never wasting your time here. The price is 1000% worth it, knowing that it’s always using my time effectively.

**Developer response:** Hej! Thanks for taking the time to give us feedback. As former learners of Scandinavian languages ourselves, it's a pleasure to hear that you've found what we offer to be the best use of your time, because it was really our intention. We really wanted to create something that, whether you had 15 or 30 or 60 minutes a day, would make you say "yes, there was no better way to spend my time learning new things about Swedish and retaining what I have studied before". All the best!

### 5/5 — Marvelous!

*2026-03-11*

The app has really useful insights, particularly on the pronunciation. Ideal for English speakers.

### 5/5 — Fantastic App!

*2025-11-04*

An amazing spaced repetition app for learning Swedish! The audio is absolutely top tier. You can clearly hear that all the pronunciation is recorded by real people, not AI voices. This makes such a big difference.

I love how the app is so well organized and lets you choose exactly what you want to focus on (pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, listening). Everything about it feels thoughtful and complete. I’ve tried so many Swedish apps, and this one is by far my favorite. An incredible amount of work went into it. It does not seem underdeveloped at all (like a reviewer said). It is easy to look at and focus; I like that it is not gamified and flashy, and I hope the developers keep it that way. I highly recommend it.

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2025-10-11, version 1.0.5*

Great but simple app that will get you going with Swedish. Great customer support too!!

### 4/5 — Good but expensive

*2025-07-12*

I really like this app, it’s explanations, and it’s model, but the price feels hard to justify for essentially a flash card app. I know $7-$12 monthly might not be a lot for some people, but where I live that’s only marginally less expensive than my renter’s insurance.

I think I would be more inclined to purchase a subscription if A. I could view the cards outside of reviews, B. If there was extra material, say short stories, and C. If I got to see a little more of the program before being prompted for the subscription. It feels hard to judge whether this would be a good investment when I’m barely past Hej and Jag territory.

I think this app has a lot of potential and I want it to do well, but for these reasons I don’t think I will continue with it.

**Developer response:** Hello! Thanks for your feedback. Please get in touch with customer service (from the app itself, our website or our Facebook page) about the length of your free trial, it's possible that it was incorrectly too short. We want to make sure you get the full duration. In the meantime, our social media pages can show more of our content.
