## What is mKer?

*** Note ***
Although mKer can run as a stand-alone app, the recommended way to use it is as an AUv3 plugin from inside a suitable AU Host app that supports MIDI Processors such as AUM, Audiobus, Cubasis etc. Please also note that mKer is a MIDI app/plugin. That means that it does not produce sound itself - it needs to be connected to an audio source that can receive MIDI.

mKer is a versatile, multi-output MIDI step sequencer with an extensive range of features. These include:
- 8 MIDI outputs
- 64 Patterns
- 16 Lanes (aka tracks) per Pattern
- Independent number of Steps (1-32) and Step Size (1/64-256 beats) per Lane per Pattern
- Every step can play either a single note, an interval (2 notes) or a chord (3 or 4 notes)
- Lane Step parameters: Play Cycles, Skip Cycles, Play Offset Cycles, Pitch, Velocity, Probability, Offset (can be used for ‘swing’ like effects), Repeat (rachet) and Gate
- A flexible Editor that includes a step entry keyboard, parameter sliders and a variety of options and utilities designed for to make the workflow intuitive and fast
- 32 Clips with 1-8 Steps per Clip, 1-128 repeats per step (every clip step has one pattern)
- 3 Play Modes: Pattern, Clip, Sequence (all Clips)
- A Performance tab with 10 fully assignable MIDI sliders, a 12-snapshot bank and morphing function between the snapshots...
- MIDI step input and real-time recording
- 12-track beat generator with six genres, density, intensity and GM beat mapping

... and more!

## Key features

- 8 MIDI outputs
- 64 Patterns with 16 Lanes each
- Customizable Steps and Step Size per Lane
- Advanced Step Parameters (Pitch, Velocity, Probability, etc.)
- Flexible Editor with Step Entry Keyboard
- 32 Clips with Repeat Functionality
- Performance Tab with Assignable Sliders and Morphing

### 4/5 — Almost great but…

*2025-12-01, version 1.10.4*

This is a cleverly designed app and I will get a lot of use out of it as I record a pattern at a time into loopy pro. Just as well as the sequencer page doesn’t seem to work at all? The manual is useless as the examples shown look nothing like the current MKer app.
I can add clips/patterns to the sequencer page but deleting them doesn’t work as far as I can tell and it doesn’t make sense at all. I can add as many cycles of the first pattern but how do I add a second pattern to the sequence?
For me MKer is still well worth the fiver paid but It would be good to actually be able to chain patterns in the sequencer rather than having to trigger them manually.
Maybe it’s me but I am ok with just about every other sequencer on IOS.

### 5/5 — I Know Why This Got 5 Stars

*2025-10-03, version 1.10.4*

What a fantastic sequencing app. It’s great for making some lovely long slow ambiences. There is a slight learning curve but it is more than worth it in the long run. I absolutely love the results from this app.

### 4/5 — Gets things going

*2024-08-18*

Use it in AUM templates. A little tedious to input notes, but idk how to make it easier. Pretty solid otherwise.

### 1/5 — Confusing Interface

*2024-03-25*

This app could be very good but in it’s current state it’s not. The included help manual is no help at all because the UI it depicts and the actual UI are completely different. Good luck trying to understand intuitively as things you think the various buttons should do don’t do at all, or do something unexpected. I consider this app broken for now until the dev does a better job of defining it’s functions and updating the user manual.

### 1/5 — I don’t know HOW this got 5 stars.

*2024-01-27, version 1.7.1*

It doesn’t work with external midi keyboards, despite what the developer says or maybe just not the Arturia Keystep 37 and the KORG nanoKEY2. Of course I could be wrong and it’s just incompatible with AUM, but whatever the reason, tying to input midi notes using an external keyboard causes the app to crash. Unless you want to spend countless hours entering and fiddling with the screen, don’t waste your money. The support doesn’t work either, I tried that first and I think that the developer doesn’t want to hear any criticism.

### 5/5 — Quirky but actually fun

*2023-12-17*

Once you put up with some UI oddities, the interface is surprisingly good helping to find and work out ideas. Editing the lanes for example is easy using an assortment of buttons in the lower half. You don’t have to reach across the screen all the time. One bigger caveat is that the apps parameters don’t seem to be exposed. So you cannot use MIDI controllers and effects to control mKer itself.

thank you very much for your feedback and the kind words!

### 2/5 — Webpage is NOT available to DL a manual from???

*2023-11-16, version 1.6.1*

I am unable to even get mKer connected to anything outside of it, using only it’s tiny section descriptions!

It does not show up period, in MiRack.
It does not show up period, in AudioBus 3
It does not show up period, in Kymatica’s auV3 that I finally bought as well, seeing it mentioned.

1x crash and complete hang, through trying to get it connected.

This sequencer finally has functionality that I have wanted bad for 19+ iPad years. Only $4.99 u.s.! So of f’ing course I were hoping big time!

i-Pad 9th gen. Latest iOS. 40 year synth programmer MIDI user. Hobby.
If I still had enough time (life) to learn coding for iOS, I’d already have coded my own prob. based step sequencer.

Rating remains at, 2* until the manufacturer provides a legitimate web address.

### 3/5 — Nice but midi keyboard issue

*2023-05-29*

Cannot input to cells using external keyboard or Aum keyboard.
Thus, it takes too long to input notes using Mker keyboard.

Please issue update so we can use Aum keyboard or any other keyboard for inputting notes.

Thank you

**Developer response:** Hello,

thank you for your feedback. MIDI input (step input as well as pattern/clip switching) is a planned feature and we hope to make it available in one of the coming releases this year.

You are always welcome to submit any additional feedback via the in-app contact form or at hello(at)axart(dot)net

### 5/5 — Plug away

*2023-05-16, version 1.5.2*

Updated review - Becoming a go to midi sequencer now :-)

Updated - ongoing app improvement is noticeable - more stable now - definitely has potential to be a workhorse of a sequencer and perhaps it was just a little too early out of the gate. Crashes - below average help menu - has potential but needs work

### 5/5 — Very nice tool

*2023-01-28*

I have enjoyed working with it very much so far. I appreciate that it works in stand alone mode as well as a plug-in. I’ve been using it as a sequencer for my hardware modular setup via a midi to CV interface. The one function I would really like to see added is the ability to tie steps together (i.e. to create an 8th note in a 16 step pattern). Edit: Thank You for adding the ability to tie notes! Love the fact that the app is being updated with new features. I’ve worked with a couple of iOS step sequencers but this is my favorite.

**Developer response:** Hello,

thank you very much for your feedback and the kind words! There are more major updates planned that will add a number of new features - you can always submit any feedback/suggestion either via the in-app contact form or directly by e-mail: hello(at)axart(dot)net
