I just cannot figure out where exactly my file is located. Is it on my mobile app? On Cloudtree? On iCloud? On One Drive? My cloudgtree also doesn’t match from one device to another. Yes, I am logged into the same Apple ID. So I am hesitant to make updates to my files, because I don’t know which is the real McCoy. Customer service was good about answering my first email in depth, but I am having issues still and waiting on them. I’m sure they will reply. In the meantime, those are my only gripes about this app. ### 2/5 — Maps maps maps Yet no undo button *2024-12-19* This is a frustrating app. I accidentally deleted a long text note story. There is No way to undo and recover. Doesn't have the simplicity & functionality of my old version of family tree maker. ### 4/5 — This app is perfect but… *2024-08-18* Printing the charts is a nightmare, everything printed is small even when blown up to poster size, I edited and changed the font size it took forever to edit each family member and the printed version is still unreadable 😤 ### 4/5 — Was happy with 9. *2024-08-12* Sadly, 9 was not functioning properly & wouldn’t open link to Family Search. Apparently, it was something to do with Apple Apps & something to do with there being a newer version, 10. I have a huge family tree - close to 800 people. I wish there was a way to view the descendant fan chart so it would show everyone - including people married into the family. It currently does and to me defeats the purpose if you want a nice way to see everyone at once. Otherwise the app is pretty awesome, I still love it for the ease of use and visuals. ### 4/5 — Love the app, Hate the fact it won’t let me delete! *2024-05-08* I have been using this app for a very long time now, all the way since version 8, but I hate the fact that when I try to “delete” a family tree, it doesn’t go away! I have family trees on the app that are from version 8 that I want to get rid of but I can’t because it will not get rid of them permanently. I would like the ability to permanently delete a family tree for good, and not just have it linger around like some bad juju. I use this for making family trees for my stories and for fun, and a lot of these I would like to get rid of, and it won’t let me! Like I said, I love the app, just let me delete some of my old family trees permanently! ### 2/5 — Stop showing ads for your other products *2024-03-16* This is a perfectly good piece of software for managing a family tree. I own it on both iOS and Mac. The rating is because I’m tired of seeing ads after updates for “iFinance” (or any other software). Such as how to change source person for reports and how to add source materials. I’ve been struggling to open a completed family tree for printing. ### 5/5 — Fully fledged genealogy app *2023-12-16* MobileFamilyTree has a complete feature set allowing the same level of data capture as any desktop application. From very detailed events to full referencing, it is superb. The Stories are a nice recent addition. The only two features it is missing are editing the World History and direct syncing with MacFamilyTree, without going through iCloud. ### 3/5 — Best family tree app to save cross platform data to but doesnt sync *2023-12-05* Best platform for visual, family trees and adding more data than just the bare minimum, especially if you’re a close living relative or using local geneologicallr national archive records. However, it’s part of the Mormon site FamilySearch - but doesn’t sync your tree or data to their desktop site or mobile app even though it’s the same login! ### 3/5 — Duplication of families *2023-11-11* Software should have immediate notification of duplicate individuals and recommendation on how to fix duplication of families when long string of families need to be moved. ### 5/5 — The best family tree app *2023-10-26* This app makes managing my family tree a snap. Visually pleasing and offers a wide variety of charts/reports. Best part is that it seamlessly syncs with MacFamilyTree on my desktop so I can switch between working on my iPad or iMac at any time. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Confusing *2024-06-23* I find the entry of data and then finding a person too confusing ### 1/5 — Not working *2024-03-16* Just downloaded and it doesn’t work. ### 1/5 — Waste of £29.99 *2023-12-13* Bought with one specific purpose, to split my tree held GEDCOM file into smaller sub trees. The Remove Subtree feature sounded like the perfect solution. Loaded my GEDCOM containing 700+ people, proceeded to configure the Remove Subtree feature, hit the button and bang, the app simply crashes. Reloaded it to find nothing has happened, re-tried multiple times, each time reducing the volume of people that would be removed in the hope it was a memory related issue, but all without success. Raised a support ticket which has so far gone unanswered. Thinking there may be something dodgy within my GEDCOM file, I created a new tree from scratch within this app, this consisted of just 4 people across 3 generations. Configured Remove Subtree again to remove 2 of the 4 people, hit the button thinking surely this much simplified arrangement would actually work. Sadly, no it doesn’t, the app just crashes as it has done on every attempt. This is not a great experience, can see why there is no trial or ‘lite’ version offered in the store, as if there was, I certainly wouldn’t have parted with £29.99 on this experience. In it’s current state this app is unfit for purpose and in any other walk of life I would be marching into the shop to demand a refund. If anyone from the authors actually reads these reviews, please can I request you either fix it promptly or give me a full refund. ### 1/5 — Total waste of £30 *2023-10-26* It doesnt do what it says. Tried importing . Sure it fave me a file by the same name as my gedcom vbut it was empty ### 1/5 — Mac Family Tree 10 *2023-08-31* Too difficult to surf. My interactive tree is not easily displayed. Cloud web receives errors ### 1/5 — Increasing frustration with use *2023-01-15* The more I use the software, the more frustrated I am. The first big issue is the software inability to connect properly to my Google drive. For example, if I attach a picture everything is fine however, everytime I’m trying to repeatedly attach pictures, the software is not loading the picture anymore. I have to exit the software, wait a minute, and the try again. After attaching 3 more pictures, the same problem happens. The second big issue is the fact that there is no UNDO button. Say you erase a paragraph by mistake, you’ll have to rewrite the whole thing. The third big issue, and I have to scratch my head with this one; Why is it that I can attach a jpg, a pdf to a record but I CANNOT attach a simple txt file????? Finally, there is NO button within the software to report bugs to developper…. This app is exactly what I need and the fact that it is available on my iPhone, iPad and Mac, makes it very convenient to update anywhere and anytime. I also plan to share my tree with other family members to build out our ancestry with information they have. I wish though, there was an online option where others who do not have Apple phone or computer can access my family tree. Graphically pleasing, rich in functionality, easy to use and with CloudTree enables use across multiple devices and storage of evidence, photos, certificates etc. I particularly like the places gazetteer geo-spatial functionality that enables you to see the geographical connections and journeys over time. I have well over 2000 entries in my tree and it’s always a source of family conversation - and I can share the reports and views straight onto a TV over wifi from my iPhone.
