### 4/5 — I like it but it crashes all the time!

*2023-04-02*

I’ve been using this app for more than a year and pay for the Pro version in a yearly plan. I use it daily but on my iPhone 14 Pro it crashes all the time! I can’t really analyze my patterns very well because the app crashes every time I use it for more than 10-15 seconds. For a paid app, not good enough.

### 5/5 — Very easy to use

*2021-04-27*

It’s been designed very well. I actually enjoy logging things into it! Highly recommend.

### 4/5 — Looks useful, but I’ll pass on yet another subscription

*2021-04-14*

My first impression of the app is that it could be of great help to me in concept. The UI seems efficient and attractive, and I would love to have easier ways to track meals that I can manage on my watch.

However, I am frankly underwhelmed by being able to make only two custom tags at the free tier, as well as the limitations on defining meals (both of which are pretty basic features as far as what this app professes to do); and I have no interest in a subscription pricing model for this product. The subscription pricing is not unreasonable per se - roughly 10 cents per day yearly - but at the same time, a subscription payment model seems overblown for what this product offers.

If there were a reasonable one-time purchase option, or if there were more tags and meal customization options available at the free tier, I would likely use this app without reservation. For those willing to pay the price and who are more amenable to the subscription model, it may be a great option.

### 5/5 — Super Useful

*2020-09-04*

When I don’t feel like measuring and weighing everything, this lets me still keep track of how i’m eating overall.

### 5/5 — Simple

*2020-03-31*

I love the simple motivation of this app. It never crashes and collects just the data needed to help keep you in a healthy mindset.

### 5/5 — Good, but breakfast-centric.

*2020-01-13*

I love everything about this app, except the fact that the UI really expects you to eat three meals a day — breakfast, lunch, dinner. I do fasting and don’t have much of an appetite in the morning, so most days I skip breakfast. The app really doesn’t handle that situation well. Is the dev in the pocket of Big Cereal? You be the judge.

### 4/5 — Good approach

*2019-12-31*

Nice concept, but a lot of work to be done.
I tested a bit around, I am missing two things by now: The ability to add a ‚neutral’ meal and to remove my ‚testdata‘.

One bonus-star for this simple approach and the idea to keep things private.

**Developer response:** Hi Sammy

You can delete a meal by swiping from right to left. We will look into adding a more neutral rating in the future

### 5/5 — Very simple, effective, and to the point.

Very simple, effective, and to the point.

### 5/5 — Cool and easy

*2019-12-28*

Clever Guys did a good job!

### 5/5 — Simplicity

*2019-09-21*

I've always found these sort of apps a pain to use. They all promise ease of use but somewhere down the line they receive an upgrade that adds way too many steps or silly features and it over complicates things. However, moderation is probably the best app on the market for recording your meals in a simple but intuitive way. It doesn't over complicate what is essentially a simple task of keeping a diary of your meals. The 'nudges' are useful to remind you to record your meals as most days, work and general life get in the way. Would totally recommend you giving this app a try. Kudos to the dev!

### 5/5 — Love this app!

*2019-03-01*

Very useful and simple to use!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Pointless

*2022-12-31*

Doesn’t track anything, just asks me if my meal is healthy or not. Surely I should input my meal, and the app should tell me if it’s healthy. I see no point whatsoever to this app at this point. In what world is this worth £25 a year? 🤯

Also my lunchtime isn’t at 12. I don’t want it reminding me to eat lunch 30 minutes after I’d just logged my breakfast. Atleast let me decide the times I want notifications for my own meals.

### 1/5 — Ok, but……..

*2022-03-29*

Before you have entered any data it asks you to leave a review. Add a meal, it asks you to leave a review. I haven’t even set the flippin’ app up yet, give me a chance!

**Developer response:** Hi

Apologies, I think this was a bug in a previous version and is now fixed.

Dom

### 1/5 — It was my Favorit App…

*2021-04-19*

Give us the old design back. The App is now a absolutely mess :(

**Developer response:** I’m sorry you don’t like the new design. A lot of time, effort and thought has gone into this release, and the new design is going to allow the App to include extra functionality in the future.

### 1/5 — Pointless

*2020-01-06*

Dosnt let you log what you eat at all, just asks you to pick if you’ve eaten healthy or not, exactly what I want an app to do for me there lots of hidden things in food these days Meaning a lot of things are worse for you than you thought.. deleting and going back to my fitness pal!

**Developer response:** I’m sorry the philosophy of Modertation doesn’t fit with your needs. As you have mentioned, there are countless alternatives that do calorie counting or more onerous versions of tracking what you eat, but this is the opposite of what Moderation does.

### 2/5 — CBA

*2024-11-15*

Tried to log my weight but wax told I couldn’t as I hadn’t enabled something to do with Apple Health. I mean if you can’t do something as simple as record your weight who needs it?..🤷‍♀️

**Developer response:** I’m sorry you found the Apple Health integration frustrating. There are several benefits to using Apple Health for the user. Your weight data is stored securely and privately on your device, other weight tracking apps can read/write the same data, any other devices you have with Apple Health (I.e an iPad) will sync your data over iCloud, and most importantly, if you ever delete Moderation your weight data isn’t deleted because its stored in Apple Health.

### 2/5 — How do you record anything???

*2024-05-11*

1. No way to record what I ate.
2. Time cannot be changed if I am recording my food for the day at a later time. It looks like I ate breakfast and lunch at 3 pm. Because that is when I entered it.

### 2/5 — Drop the subscription

*2021-04-14*

Would be a GREAT app, sans subscription. I’d gladly pay $10 for an app like this. Poor value, otherwise

### 3/5 — Good app but still could be improved

*2022-11-20*

I like the app for the ability to log meals that are health or unhealthy and monitor the healthy lifestyle. On the other hand, you can only create tags for each meal. You cannot actually fully document what you are eating. It becomes subjective to what you think is healthy vs unhealthy.

**Developer response:** Hi

Thanks for the review. I’m planning on adding a “notes” feature which will let you add more detailed information about your meals in a future release

Dom

### 3/5 — Loses data

*2019-01-29*

I love the idea and simplicity of this app, but it constantly erases days of data for no reason. Days that I have logged will just be blank next time I open the app. In the rare chance I can remember what I ate for those specific lost meals, it loses that newly-entered data.

 Close, but not there.

**Developer response:** Hi

Can you email support@moderation.app and we can help you diagnose this problem?

Thanks
Dom

### 4/5 — So simple

*2025-04-08*

So easy, so practical 🥰

**Developer response:** Thank you for the review!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Simple

*2026-03-26*

Easy to use especially when not a person who likes to track calories

**Developer response:** Thanks for this feedback! I'm glad the app feels intuitive for you — I designed it exactly for people who want to track what matters without the calories obsession. Reviews like this really motivates me to keep it simple.

### 5/5 — Good!

*2025-04-27*

the app does its job perfectly in a nice and simple design. love it! for my needs, i need to track images, but be sure i will come back if this feature would be available (you could make it a pro-feature, for example). 5/5 stars!

**Developer response:** Thanks for the review, it really helps :-) I’m working on a big update to the app which will add image support later this year.

### 5/5 — Amazing app

*2024-02-21*

This is exactly what I was looking for. A very low-fi way to practice mindful eating with the option to track food groups/types and overall healthiness. Plus it doesn’t require ingredient tracking or calorie counting which never works for me. However, I do like stats and this provides that. I like the idea of sticking to the 80/20 rule and this enables me to aim for that.

### 5/5 — liking it

*2023-10-05*

so far liking how simple this is.

### 5/5 — Simplicity is the key

*2023-07-22*

Great little app - very easy & quick to log weight & meals - healthy/unhealthy. It’s a good motivator. Useful graphs to track progress.

### 5/5 — Useful

*2023-06-28*

Very nice app

### 5/5 — LOVE IT

*2023-06-26*

Simply ——> Logging Healthy or Unhealthy without all the fuss of calorie intake.

Love the simple and new concept of logging food.

### 5/5 — Getting started

*2021-12-04*

This app seems to be a little bit complicated to get started with. More instructions would be helpful.

### 5/5 — Just what I needed!

*2021-07-31*

As an avid Duolingo enthusiast, I love the idea of implementing a streak freeze, as well as personal goals set. It would also be great if you could implement the option of still having the streak going if you eat an unhealthy meal but manage to get right back on track with the next meal! Just my 2 cents =)

### 5/5 — Amazing and so helpful

*2021-07-14*

Really great app, it’s so quick to add & tag meals, which stops it being a burden that you eventually forget to do. Really great!

The pro features are definitely worth it as well, gives such a nice insight into how your food patterns actually look. Shout out to the developers for being so responsive, looking forward to future updates!!!
