Clicked 2x speed and still plays at the same speed. There are random blank slides that say introduction on every slide but don’t display content. Kind of a waste of space in my opinion. And that was a forced update by Apple. It has been 7 years since they’ve even touched the app. This, plus the fact that the most reviews are 1 star, should tell you something: it’s not worth your time. Even if you can get past logging in, none of the content loads. Trying to open videos result in the app crashing, and everything else “loads” forever. I’m convinced that the five star reviews are from people that got paid to put it there or people that never even opened the app (or have some kind of device that the app somehow works on still?). I’m extremely disappointed. The Modern States “Freshman Year for Free” Initiative is a great program and has saved me countless hours of work as well as money. The program itself gets a 5/5. But the fact that they cannot take care of their app (and yet they still advertise it) is so annoying. And for those of you who read this and download it anyways, I just want to say “I told you so!” Have a good day :) ### 1/5 — Needs a major update *2021-06-08, version 2.6* Keeps crashing on entering app and trying to view the video ### 1/5 — App no longer works; use Firefox instead. *2021-05-11, version 2.6* Questions, slides, and videos endlessly load or the app crashes in the process of trying to load them. If you want to access your coursework on mobile, your best bet would be to download the Firefox app, go to the Modern States website, login, and go from there. Not too much of an inconvenience, but still disappointing. ### 1/5 — Crashes *2021-04-16, version 2.6* I cannot get the app to load any videos or anything on my phone. It only crashes. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Remove It From the App Store *2024-04-21* This is the 3rd phone I’ve attempted with over a time span of several years, so it absolutely doesn’t work. Last update 5 years ago? IDK if the developers quit & were never replaced or what, but it’s completely unusable & should be removed. I love the Modern States organization, by the way, and I take the courses on their website without issue. ### 1/5 — Won’t load *2023-08-04* Just as someone else mentioned this and just doesn’t work anymore, which I was really hoping to be able to watch the videos and maybe even take some of the courses mobile. I just get an endless reload air that’s similar to what the other person said about it not recognizing the Internet. More than likely it’s some certificate or DNS error on there and that needs to be fixed within the app and I really hope they get to it because this app could be incredibly valuable. ### 1/5 — this app is amazingly bad *2023-06-11* I’m amazed at how long they have not updated this app and how little they would need to do to just fix it. Even reinstalling the app does nothing when you’re logged after the first log in that being said—modern states is an amazing organization and I don’t really have any qualms with the web version otherwise! ### 1/5 — The application rarely works on my phone *2023-04-13* Most of the time this application does not work. It comes up and plays videos for a small amount of time but if I close the app and open it again it gives an error. Please, please fix this. It would be so great if I could play the lectures on my phone instead of having to bring my laptop everywhere. ### 1/5 — Very disappointed in this app *2023-02-25* The app crashed after two days of using it. I was using this app so I could watch videos when I was not able to have my laptop with me. I deleted and re-installed the app and it still doesn’t work. I am very disappointed. I launched the course I wanted on the website and thought I’d try the app for convenience. The app worked the first time I logged in and never again after that. It always says that I have no internet connection even when I am connected to strong Wi-Fi. I tried deleting and reinstalling the app and I still get the same error. Redownloaded the app and am glad to see that they fixed it. Years ago, I received a voucher to take the CLEP exam upon course completion, and I learned a lot. As for the app, I read a couple reviews that said they couldn’t log in, downloaded anyway, when I tried to log in and let Apple passwords preload my log in and password it didn’t work. I deleted my log in name and used my email address instead and it worked perfectly.
