This app is EPIC!! Busy lives!! Busy world!! This app enables R & R at our fingertips....which is what our society is desperate for❤️❤️

### 5/5 — Super cool!

*2018-04-20, version 1.2*

My teacher created this app and I find it very relaxing and creative! I definitely recommend downloading it and will show it to all of my friends!

### 5/5 — Fun & Calming

*2018-04-20, version 1.2*

This app is so much fun to use! I loved discovering all the things you can do with it. Sometimes you just really need to relax and this app is a fun, easy way to do that! I would recommend it to everyone!

### 5/5 — Exceptional!

*2018-03-14, version 1.2*

I am a student with a very heavy workload, and the only two moods that I endure are stress and absent-mindedness. This app can help me both unwind in order to achieve mental balance and get me in the necessary state of mind to get things accomplished.

A must have!

### 5/5 — Something for everyone

*2018-03-09, version 1.2*

Whether I find myself in a funk or agitated, Modes offers a quick, beautiful solution. Specifically designed to interact with multiple senses at once, this app takes you to another place for however long you need it. Great for college students or business people that need a quick refresher during a work period or when stressed.

### 5/5 — Mesmerizing, considerate, and effective

*2018-03-09, version 1.2*

The immersive nature of the app really does effectively blend the senses of the user for a more meaningful, accurate experience. I found the energizing mode to be the most effective for my personal needs, but even the shortest amount of time on any of the modes invokes a response of reduced anxiety and stress.

### 5/5 — Relaxing and Helpful

*2018-03-09, version 1.2*

As a college student, I am constantly stressed and overwhelmed. Modes helps me manage my stress and anxiety. The chill mode is my favorite as the soothing colors and sounds make it easy to relax. Just playing with this for a couple of minutes when I'm stressed helps a lot. I also use it at night when I can't sleep to help me relax.

### 5/5 — So Calming

*2018-03-09, version 1.2*

As a design student, Modes is a great way to relax at the end of the day. I can still be creating something beautiful, but something that calms me down and allows my mind to relax. It’s refreshing because I have a different experience and create something new every time I use it!

### 5/5 — Relevant

*2018-03-09, version 1.2*

Being a college student that has had trouble with anxiety, I was very excited to find out this app exists. The circles are satisfying to interact with and the gradients are relaxing. Good app for mindfulness and recharging the brain.

### 5/5 — Invaluable app for chilling out

*2018-03-09, version 1.2*

This app is so cool! Simple and fun to use, as well as fun to look at. Very calming, especially for people with anxiety; great way to recenter.

### 5/5 — Really helpful

*2018-03-08, version 1.2*

Being a full time student with a ton of work to do and a job on top of that is a lot. Sometimes it can get pretty stressful but when it does I just take a few minutes out of my day to use the chill mode on this app, it really does make you feel better. If I’m up late and getting tired and need to wake up a little bit, I use energize or refocus parts of the app. It’s really useful and pretty fun, you can lose yourself in it sometimes.

### 5/5 — Groovy

*2018-03-08, version 1.2*

I love color theory & simple, no-pressure games like this. It is very appealing to the eye. Take 5 minutes to balance your psyche!

### 5/5 — Relaxing!

*2017-11-29, version 1.1*

Modes is really great for my adhd and mood swings. The three different options are fun to listen to and play with; you don’t even know that it’s doing what it’s supposed to be doing until you’re finished and your head is clear. It’s a much easier mindfulness practice than meditation, and makes it easy to quiet the mind for a little bit.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Crashes

*2018-03-28, version 1.2*

That's it. Hasn't worked a lick.

### 2/5 — Benny review

*2018-04-20, version 1.2*

This app really did nothing for me. Neat visual but the “neat effect” wore off pretty quickly. Might be cooler if it could pair with songs on your phone. Definitely a cool thing to try though. Probably better help for prop who drawing helps them relax

### 4/5 — Great for Mindfulness

*2025-04-19, version 1.2*

I’ve had Modes for about a week, and it has been a helpful and fun tool when I’m starting a study session. I have been experimenting with all three modes, but I feel that Refocus is the most effective; its music and the behavior of the circles with different interactions I can try is satisfying. I like to use it when I’m feeling scattered so I can get back to being mindful of how I’m spending my time.

I’m using an iPhone 11, and it works well, but some elements on the main menu are very low resolution. Also, some of the colored backgrounds don’t fully extend to the bottom of the screen, so I would love to see support for newer devices.

### 4/5 — Fun experience for a quick break

*2025-04-16, version 1.2*

Really fun to mess around on and relax your mind with. Definitely has a lot of potential to be expanded upon with the music, colors, shapes, etc. I am curious about the design process and research behind it but the link to the website doesn’t seem to work. Would love to see updates and additions in the future!

### 4/5 — Surprisingly Relaxing

*2018-03-09, version 1.2*

I downloaded this app hoping it would help me to relax at night or focus when I need to work, and it’s been surprisingly effective. It is incredibly easy to use, and I really recommend it to anyone who has trouble focusing!

### 5/5 — Relieves Stress

*2025-04-25, version 1.2*

I stumbled across Modes yesterday when I was having a very rough and stressful afternoon. I was playing around with it for a bit and found myself calming down SIGNIFICANTLY! This app is very simplistic and easy to use, I highly recommend. It’s perfect for finals week. I would review the link that walks us through the process since it doesn’t seem to work though. Aside from that, I’m happy I have it :)

### 5/5 — Great for productive stay breaks

*2025-04-23, version 1.2*

I’ve had this app for a couple of weeks now and love how I can take a productive break rather than scrolling on social media. My favorite mode is the energize mode, it keeps me engaged and doesn’t disrupt me from my work flow. Definitely going to continue using this moving forward!

### 5/5 — A much needed mental break

*2025-04-23, version 1.2*

This app provides a engaging yet relaxing experience and is a super convenient and nice break from mindlessly scrolling. It’s a great way to recenter myself during a long day! The different modes are also great for my different moods/what I need for a particular day. Definitely recommend!

### 5/5 — Amazing App and Amazing Purpose

*2025-04-22, version 1.2*

This app has a super cool concept and research behind it! It takes in account music, color, mood, energy, etc. for each section. It would be really interesting to see how this app could grow and develop as its own entity. As of right now, I think it serves its function and is a great asset for people to recenter themselves.

### 5/5 — Perfect for Finals Week

*2025-04-21, version 1.2*

This semester has been pretty stressful and any down time I get I find myself scrolling on social media, ultimately stressing myself out even more. This app has been a great way for me to take a “brain break” without furthering my anxiety and losing my site on the task at hand.

## Most praised reviews (5 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — A fun little break

*2025-04-20, version 1.2*

A fun little mental escape and destressor. I didn’t realize till I read the App Store description that there were several interactions you could do (aside from just tapping and dragging), so a simple summary of all the finger interactions somewhere in the app would be helpful (since it was a lot more fun once I knew about them!). Some other little things like the backgrounds not quite filling my device screen and the home page being really pixelated could use some love, but the sound design is really engaging and the visuals are fun to interact with—a great way to take a quick break from anything stressful!

### 5/5 — Relaxing and Fun

*2025-04-19, version 1.2*

It was fun to explore the different modes, like refocus, as well as play around with what different things I could do with touch controls.

### 5/5 — Totally Dope

*2025-04-18, version 1.2*

Hope to see more updates soon!

### 5/5 — Great during study breaks!

*2025-04-16, version 1.2*

This app is a great way to take a study break. I often find myself reaching for my phone while studying and doing homework which is counterproductive. I end up scrolling on social media for longer than I should. Since I naturally pick up my phone, Modes is a great way to still take a break but in a productive way. I really liked the music paired with it as well.

### 5/5 — Simple Yet Intriguing!

*2025-04-16*

This app is a simple yet effective tool for anxiety relief. It has enough simplicity to where I’m not overwhelmed, yet enough visual intrigue to distract me and allow me to slow down and control my thoughts and breathing. The calming visuals are mesmerizing and the colors paired with the music is beautiful. The interface is very easy to use— this could be helpful for all ages.
