They have their chat feature turned off due to high demand and aren’t responding to emails. I’ve been waiting for a refund for almost 4 weeks and still haven’t received it. Haven’t been able to talk to someone to push it through. They need to figure this out before I try them again. Now the rest of the review: I had Modsy design 2 rooms for me. It was pretty easy to set up, and I like how it tells you what your style is based on you selecting various examples you like. The designer listened to my needs and made a few updates until it was perfect. There is a huge selection of goods. However, they are overpriced. Other online retailers have similar items for much less. Do some shopping around before you purchase from Modsy. A lot of their partners are experiencing delays with delivery. Many times the original delivery date was within a couple of weeks then it turned into many months. The items were easy to cancel and get somewhere else. However, canceling right now could be a challenge due to what I said in the beginning. ### 4/5 — Love the design! *2022-06-29, version 3.13* I love the design and the process. Makes it so easy to get new ideas and options that I hadn’t thought of myself. However, I’m trying to go on to see my designs and the app is telling me I need to upgrade but when I go to update it says I’m on the newest version. ### 4/5 — Easy and intuitive but too slow *2022-03-27, version 3.7* This app has some amazing capabilities and features! It’s very easy to scan your room using the camera, review designs/chat with the designer and swap out products. But the performance is not great - loading the product catalog takes forever. It’s also very difficult to search for products. ### 2/5 — App doesn’t save info *2022-01-18, version 3.3* This review is for the app only. I’ve spent a lot of time writing my answers and then gone to the next section, and then if you go back to review or edit it, the information is gone. You can’t see what information is there when you go to submit, and if you go back into the section it’s starting all over again!!! If I have to rewrite these details one more time I may scream. Such a bummer. Hopefully, the design part of the experience is more rewarding. ### 2/5 — Review of App and Experiece *2022-01-15, version 3.3* Application Pros: - You can envision the designs from multiple viewpoints - You can replace items with similar things if you want to see additional options Cons: - Some items appeared upside down or got lost when changing out to different options - App crashes when trying to look at status of items that were ordered as replacements - Wish you could view the 3D rendering without have to walk in circles in my house (I.e., scroll with my finger through rendering) Experience Pros: - It was super easy to order everything and use financing on the site once errors disappeared - Customer service was easily accessible to provide return labels Cons: - Cart items disappeared a few times (think this was due to servers being down) - 75% of items (actual calculation) came damaged. Eventually we just got over it and kept some of the damaged items. If you would like to return an item, you have to print your own label and tape it back up. Overall I spent $20 doing returns by purchasing tape and paying to print labels. Keep in mind, the 25% of the non-damaged items were pillows and a rug. - The style wasn’t necessarily “us” … we ended up going with it because we didn’t feel like having another style done. Overall, I wouldn’t use the service again. The amount of time that I spent returning items wasn’t worth it. I also have a damaged painting on my wall because I just gave up after returning multiple items. **Developer response:** Thanks so much for providing this feedback. As a young growing company, feedback like this is invaluable to us, as we work to improve our processes and the overall customer experience. ### 4/5 — Impressive 3D mapping! *2021-11-29, version 3.2.1* I’m deeply impressed by the 3d mapping of my very strangely shaped room. My designer, Aly, is wonderful and I loved the first round of designs so narrowing down on details is way easier. Some design feedback for the app though: please try to make draft messages to designers persist!! It would help 100x if I could flip between a design and a note I’m writing without losing the note. Now I have to copy and paste it every time I look. Second: can you have a manual pan/view option for the 3D designs? ### 5/5 — Blown away! *2021-09-13, version 2.7* First, I’m blown away by how spot on the recreation of my room was! Second, the quality of service from my designer, Manquez, and his design is well worth the price. Finally, I’m so thrilled with the final design of my space. I really couldn’t be more pleased with my Modsy experience. I’ll be referring all my family and friends! ### 2/5 — Complete waste of time money *2021-08-25, version 2.6* I got literally no benefit out of this after shelling not only for the service, but also for rush/express service. The designs that came back we’re thoroughly unimaginative, and in fact were pretty much what I already had. My request for bright colors was ignored and I was presented with a lot of beige and gray — very generic. It looked like homework or practice for a junior designer with nothing but an old IKEA catalogue for inspiration. Don’t waste your money — or your time, as the preparation and set up can be a little time-consuming. I wanted a fresh look. Modsy delivered! Such great designs and using the room in what’s j couldn’t hade envisioned on my own. Even better, they use different vendors but you buy in the Modsy app so it’s one stop shopping!! The app worked flawlessly with the website and was very easy to use. Now I just have toenail for all of my new furnishings to get here!! ### 3/5 — You get what you pay for *2021-08-16, version 2.6* We had an okay experience working with a Modsy designer. The app itself was pretty glitchy, but we were able to get the job done on a desktop computer. I’ve heard the designers are overworked and underpaid, and this would make sense given what we saw working with our designer. For example we said we want kid and pet friendly furniture and in our first design were given a white couch and white chairs. (We hadn’t liked anything in the sample images with white furniture so no idea where this came from) we also said we wanted a more traditional/Persian style rug, and updated to an example of this in a follow up design but the designer then changed it to a very garish modern one with magentas and oranges. It’s unlikely we will be going with any of the specific furniture suggestions, but at least the layout we were given was helpful. **Developer response:** Hi there—Thanks for leaving your feedback here. I’m having difficulty uploading my room capture? It keeps saying are you sure you want to upload? I press yes and it doesn’t do anything. Do you know how I can fix it? ### 5/5 — Give it a chance! *2021-07-08, version 2.5* This site is a bit like dating. The first few designs are like the semi-awkward first dates that excite you but just aren’t quite magical yet. But with some back and forth with the designer, your fairytale ending is a possibility! Communication is key though! Use the app, and all the tools. Swap out products in the 3D designs. Go through the products and “❤️” your favorites. The more you give your designer to work with- the happier you’ll be in the end. I highly recommend getting the package with the greatest number of revisions available. You won’t regret this! And if you (or your partner) suffers from an inability to visualize a concept or imagine what things could look like when it all comes together, then the 360 degree model for each design won’t disappoint. So happy to have chosen Modsy :) ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Started out great…wound up being a nightmare *2022-09-16, version 3.13.4* Started out so great! I was excited and working with my designer to design two room for our new house. Loved the idea of having a designer to consult and that the “edit” process allowed for unlimited revisions. We ended up placing a large furniture/decor order through Modsy with the promise that it would be easier and we would save money by doing so. Then… suddenly the company shut down. We were given no fore warning and no designer to help me finish my projects (also I feel so bad for her because I am pretty sure all the designers got laid off and she must have lost her job). Then, to make matters worse I still had about $1500 of merchandise orders (two Pottery Barn brand night stands and a nice leather bench from one of the Modsy brands) that I was waiting for which I had already paid for. It has been about 3 months since the shut down and I have still not seen any of this merchandise or been given a refund. I have submitted a claim through them trying to get my money back… What a total nightmare. ### 1/5 — Design=GREAT, Fulfillment=AWFUL, Communication=WRETCHED *2022-08-24, version 3.13.4* I RAVED about Modsy at the beginning of working with them! The design service with unlimited revisions really is/was a great service. After my initial designs and ordering I was notified by my designer that they had been laid off, so I cannot speak to if I’m still able to receive the revisions that I paid for with my package. I suggest NEVER EVER ordering through Modsy. I placed an order at the beginning of May. Many of the pieces were delayed due to supply chain issues. I understand many things are out of their control. I reached out multiple times to get any update. I have 2 large ticket items, which happen to be from a common retailer, that are PAST their 5 week delay from their already delayed delivery window. After emailing many times I still have not received a response from Modsy. The only current way to reach Modsy is through email. My most recent email was received by them well over 10 business days ago, and I have still not heard anything beyond the auto-response. Please beware. Save your time, frustration, and money. ### 1/5 — Do not purchase, they are no longer offering design services! *2022-07-31, version 3.13.2* It looks like this used to be a really great service and app. Unfortunately, I signed up for it right as the company seems to be tanking. I purchased a two room bundle when they were having a sale in mid-June. They promoted it as a good opportunity to redesign your space in time for 4th of July sales. After submitting photos of my first room the expected turnaround time was July 7th, but they have now changed that date 4 times and still no design. I had initially been communicating with my designer a few weeks ago who said she was about to get started, and then suddenly the chat feature stopped working so I have had no way to get in touch with her. When I go to submit the information for the second room, the app displays the message “we are unfortunately no longer offering design services.” There is a link to a refund request form that I submitted a few weeks ago, but I have still received no refund or update on my request. I feel like I’ve been swindled at a time when I could really use a break. I’m hoping that sharing this keeps this from happening to others. I’m not sure why the app is still active when they are clearly no longer able to offer the promised services. ### 1/5 — Don’t order anything through Modsy *2022-07-12, version 3.13.1* I ordered some decorations and furniture from my design all of which was labeled as in stock. A few items came quickly, but the larger furniture items had a delivery window of about 4 weeks. 4 weeks came and passed but I am still waiting for the furniture items that are in stock and am getting no response from Modsy customer service. I wished I just ordered it directly from the retailer and cut out the middle. ### 1/5 — Recent update broken the app *2022-06-30, version 3.13* The recent update for iPhone has rendered it unusable- it’s stuck in an endless loop requesting to update to the most recent version, which leads to the App Store which says I have the most recent version. Their help contact section on their website doesn’t allow for app based technical support help either ### 1/5 — This app is NO LONGER OFFERING DESIGN SERVICES!!!! *2022-06-29, version 3.13* Please be aware- I received an email from the designer I was originally set up with in the app that there was a massive lay-off at the organization. Right now, I can’t even log into the app as it quotes “upgrade app” but really there is no upgrade. It has locked me out with no new updates from the design package I purchased about a month ago. I sent a bug report and instead i got a preview message that Modsy is no longer providing design services but I cant click on their refund form because the app bug about the upgrade wont let me access this message in its entirety. Total waste of money and time!!! ### 1/5 — Horrible user experience - don’t even bother! *2021-11-01, version 3.0* Horrible user experience it takes forever to scan the room honestly not sure why they wouldn’t simply slow for a floor plan submission. Once you get it which takes multiple tries then the next steps don’t load properly. This app has a lot of kinks and is not worth the money. The idea behind this is brilliant but they are not there yet from an execution perspective. This is my second attempt to try them with a one year delta between projects and same issues I faced back then. You are better off finding a free lancer and send them a floor plan for layouts. ### 1/5 — Great design, HORRIBLE ordering *2021-08-30, version 2.6* The technology platform and designer we worked with were amazing. The customer service, on the other hand, has been horrible. We ordered nearly $20K worth of furniture (3 separate orders) through Modsy. First, once our order was placed, we were then able to see the “real” delivery windows. The preview of the item in the design portal said our custom couch would be available in 10 weeks. After we checked out, it was updated to Feb. 2022. I know that COVID messed up supply chains, but at least advertise honest information and don’t waste my time (and your own designer’s time). We had to email Modsy several times to cancel the couch order and find a replacement. A few of our other pieces started to arrive, including our nightstands. Without even taking one out of the box, we could see obvious damage. We have now emailed and called Modsy customer service about 20 times over 2 weeks and have not gotten anywhere. No replacement scheduled, nothing on how to return this giant box containing a damaged table. Modsy only has 3 hours of customer service phone support per day, Monday-Friday. Time to staff up and actually help your customers, not leave them with broken furniture and a half-finished apartment. To summarize: use Modsy for designing but DO NOT ORDER THROUGH THEM. Items I did buy were extremely poor quality (like bolts that barely screw into the designated slots to assemble) and when I tried to cancel an item that is not due to ship for months they said there is nothing to do until the vendor got back to them, with no timeline for how long that would be (but apparently over 10 days and counting) ### 1/5 — Great only for the rendition horrible customer service *2021-04-10, version 2.1* I originally bought about $4000 worth of products from modsy. I then started researching some of the products that I bought and found them at a much lower price plus free shipping from other sites. Modsy never answers the phone so they in turn make customers email them. I purchased my products in March 7 and I am still 4 weeks later going back and forth regarding missing items from my order. 1. Shipping is crazy expensive and delivery is not professional. 2. I had an couple of random men drop off my item with a spray painted truck. 3. No PPE and no shoe covers so I did not let them in my home 4. Modsy does not itemize your order to see what you are paying for the item and what you are paying for the shipping until you purchase your items 5. I had to cancel several orders because they were not in stock or discontinued although it was I. Stock when purchased 6. Shipping takes forever and tracking is not updated 7. Typically saved 300-$400 for buying the same exact product from another vendor and free shipping Would I use them again? I really was intentionally hands off because I wanted this space to be my style but not my normal specifications. Perfect space planning, textures and mix of colors transformed this otherwise boring room. I used another service for years. I never felt completely “wowed” when my projects were finished. On a whim, I used Modsy to redo a room previously designed. Let me just say, the results are night and day! Hands down, no competition. My Modsy designer nailed it. My results were stunning and I cannot wait to get started bringing my room to life. I’m about to have my designer redo other room plans from the last service. I think it’s worth noting that the Modsy app technology is really advanced and convenient for the customer. No more measure your room and uploading photos and specs. Nothing compares to the room capture feature and how the designer presents your design. Definitely less work for the customer.
