Momentree brings that habit back, in your pocket. WALK YOUR TREE Browsing feels like moving through your family, not scrolling a list. Tap a parent to slide up. Tap a child to slide down. Tap a partner to slide sideways. Spatial, intuitive, and quietly delightful. CAPTURE THE MOMENTS THAT MATTER Weddings, baptisms, graduations, that gathering everyone still talks about — record them as Moments and link the people who were there. Dated Moments appear on a personal timeline. Undated ones become Groups: the Sunday lunch crowd, the old university lot, the school-run mums. NEVER MISS AN ANNIVERSARY A 90-day lookahead surfaces upcoming birthdays, wedding anniversaries, and the dates of meaningful Moments. You no longer add them by hand — Momentree works them out from the marriages and partnerships you've already recorded. Record that a parent remarried and the step relationships simply appear. • Step relationships are labelled correctly, and kept honest over time: "step mother" while a marriage is current (or after a partner has passed away), and "former step father" once a couple has divorced or separated. • Each step relationship now points to the single partner it comes through, fixing a quirk where a step-child could be shown as being "with both biological parents". Tip: if someone who should be a biological parent shows up as a step-parent, it usually means that parent isn't yet linked to the child. Open the child, tap Add Parent, choose the person and pick "Biological", and they'll move into place. ### 1.2 — 2026-06-05 What's New in Momentree 1.2 This update makes your family records richer and more accurate, while keeping everything private and on your device. Surname at birth • Record a person's surname at birth — also known as their maiden name — and see it shown as "née" or "né" on their card. • Search now finds people by their surname at birth, not just their current surname. Places • Add birth and death places to people, and a place to partnerships and Moments. • Place names are remembered and reused as you type, so the same town stays consistent across your tree. Places you no longer use are tidied away automatically. Approximate and partial dates • Enter a full date, just a month and year, or a year on its own — ideal for older records. • Mark a date as about, before, after, or estimated, shown in familiar genealogical form such as "c. 1850" or "bef. 1900". Siblings • Each person now has a Siblings section, worked out from shared parents and labelled full, half, step, adoptive, or foster. A clearer person card • Birth and death details now read as a short, tidy biography, including dates and places. Other refinements • A cleaner place picker that matches the rest of the app. • Small polish to the "link as partners" suggestion. As always, Momentree keeps your family tree entirely on your device. No account, no sync, no tracking. ### 1.1 — 2026-05-28 Version 1.1 makes building your family tree feel less like data entry. Smarter suggestions • When you add a child, Momentree fills in a likely surname based on the parents you've linked. It shows in grey italics so you know it's a suggestion, and updates if you change the co-parent. • Add a second biological parent to a child and Momentree offers to link those two parents as a partnership — you choose the status. • Add a parent to a child who doesn't have one yet, and Momentree suggests an existing person as the co-parent.
