## What is Momofuda?

One poem a day — the surest way to make Hyakunin Isshu stick. Momofuda is a Japanese-language app for learning the classic anthology of 100 poems: study one poem deeply each day, lock it in with quizzes, and collect each mastered poem as a beautiful illustrated card. About five minutes a day.

■ Today's poem, in full
Each day opens one poem with everything on the table: the original text, its reading, the kimariji (deciding syllables used in karuta), the poet, an original modern-Japanese translation, and a bite-sized note. Read it slowly, then head straight into the quiz.

■ Quizzes that lock it in
Answer two four-choice quizzes (first half to second half, and the reverse) to earn the poem's card. The choices are carefully built so nothing leaks the answer — no length giveaways, no kimariji highlights. Miss one, read the explanation, and try again. A once-a-day hint (the kimariji) is there when you need it.

■ Reviews arrive right before you forget
Learned poems return automatically at growing intervals — 1, 3, 7, then 14 days (spaced repetition). Usually four review questions a day, a few more on catch-up days; the whole daily session stays around five minutes. The app handles all scheduling — just show up.

■ Weak poems gather in one place
Miss a poem twice in review and it lands in your Weak Cards list. Clear it with two straight correct answers in a drill set. You can always see exactly where you struggle.

■ A gallery of 100 poets
Every card carries an original poet illustration. Poems arrive with a presentation rank (Tsune, Miyabi, Shu, Maboroshi) — better-known poems get grander reveals — and cards you fully graduate earn a gold frame through polish quizzes. Ranks are purely presentational: every card is obtained deterministically through daily play. There are no draws.

■ The Dojo: all 100 poems, anytime
Separate from the daily lesson, the Dojo serves ten-question sets drawn from all 100 poems, as many times as you like — perfect before a test.

■ Catch up on missed days
Revisit published poems in the archive, and catch up on uncollected poems from the last three days.

■ Premium (one-time)
Remove ads, choose Dojo question ranges (by kimariji group, by rank, or weak cards only), catch up on every past daily poem, see detailed weak-card analytics, and claim reward perks without watching videos. A one-time purchase, not a subscription. Restore Purchases is supported.

■ Honest notes
- The app is currently in Japanese. Poems, translations, and all learning content are shown in Japanese, as in the screenshots.
- The poet illustrations are original artwork created with generative AI — imaginative portraits of historical poets, with no claim to accuracy of likeness.
- The translations and notes are written originally for this app. Where interpretations differ, we follow widely accepted readings.
- The original texts come from public-domain sources (Wikisource), cross-checked against two independent references; corrections can be delivered as data updates without an app update.
- Every card is obtained deterministically through daily play. There are no paid random mechanics (no gacha, no loot boxes).
- Ads are limited to two optional rewarded spots (Dojo extension and an extra drill set). The daily lesson itself has no ads.

Momofuda’s daily calendar now runs through December 2027. It was previously set to end on November 1, 2026; from now on a new poem keeps arriving on its own date and keeps building up in your past poems.

The Today screen now lets you know when a new version is available.

This version notice is new as well: it shows what changed the first time you open each updated version.
