Being able to copy Jabber handles and being able to fetch messages from the Jabber server is something that Monal does perfectly, but there seems to be a strange bug where some UI items overlay on one another or don’t show at all. This app would be amazing if it weren’t for these bugs, and I intend to come back to use this when they are fixed. The system is also very smooth. I guess my feature request is for Monal to be allowed to accept self-signed certificates. (Host has non globally routable IP.) My XMPP host won’t let Monal connect because it’s using an obsolete encryption protocol. I see in prosody logs other clients connecting with TLSv1.2 and TLSv1.3 but when Monal tries to connect it’s rejected. Ensure that your certificate is signed by a CA supported by apple. I can guarantee compatibility with self hosted prosody, most of the online clients(they have their own issues), conversations on android, Dino and gajim. Don’t forget to get OMEMO and run prosody features check. I found it has barely any compatibility with Siskin IM ### 5/5 — Does everything a jabber/XMPP app should do *2025-12-23, version 6.4.16* I saw some reviews of people having issues receiving messages and the server not fetching them properly that’s primarily because of the Server that you’re using for that it’s kind of out of Monals hands if the server that your jabber account is using is unstable you can verify that on the XMPP website where they provide server addresses to use or even create your own server then you won’t have to worry about it being unstable. But overall wonderful app is the best of the best. I had been using Siskin for a while, and it was decent enough, but the lack of proper push notifications was incredibly frustrating. Monal has proper push notifications even with omemo, which is great. I was initially concerned with battery usage, and while settings reports high usage, in practice it has been a non-issue (monal has documentation discussing why this is a measurement error on iOS’s part). Overall I’m pretty pleased right now. There’s still features I’d like to see, and the UI feels a bit buggy sometimes (e.g., uploading images never seems to work the first time…), but this is actually usable right now, even with omemo.
