The lessons are all over the place and could be better organized and more flexible. Mondly could also easily offer lesson plans based on the users goal. I am learning for travel yet I end up sifting through unrelated and generally unhelpful content. Having focused learning plans seems like it would be pretty easy and would make the app so much better. The app is frustrating at times with its speech recognition, or lack of. I’ve recorded the app saying a word and played the recorded back and the app won’t recognize the word. The deeper I get the more I run into words the AI simply won’t pick up on. This wastes time and is frustrating. There is also a real lack of conversational content that’s not scripted. I’ve downloaded a second app for that. This app seems like it has a good start but it’s also really lacking essential features. Better than Duolingo but then what’s not? ### 3/5 — Easy to use but not sure of the practicality of the lessons *2026-08-17, version 10.67.0* I've used a few lessons and find it very engaging. I am brushing up on modern Greek and found that the lessons are focused on phrases and topics that aren't practical on a day-to-day basis. I need to find my hotel order something at the restaurant find a bathroom get on a taxi. Speech recognition is pretty good, though it sometimes seems to get hung up on words beginning with b (when said on their own). Also, when it asks me to say “Mei” it hears it as the homophone “Mij” and says I’ve got it wrong. When asked to translate Dutch to English (my native language) I’m told I’m wrong if I don’t use the exact words the app is expecting - even if that wording is a bit stilted. NB this only happens rarely. You could probably get around this without needing a huge heap of extra code. You are telling me you couldn't find a stock image of a man waving? and had to ai it? lazy. If you had to cut corners with the art and pictures what else have you cut corners with? In the description it states there are 100+ convos with native speakers, how do I know that is true? Could all that be fake? Its getting harder and harder to find language learning apps that don't incorporate ai. They speak very slowly even we have finished the course and we cannot change it. The support is not able to solve this problem and does not reimburse. ### 1/5 — Terrible AI Voice Recognition *2026-07-12, version 10.67.0* So many of the lessons are dependent on you repeating words back in a conversation with an AI that refuses to accept any form of pronunciation and even though it can write out the literal sounds of the word as Katakana, it doesn’t translate it into Kanji. Even though it’s literally in a repeat and call back exercise of the exact same word.
