### 4/5 — Sync

*2020-01-20, version 2.10*

This app not sync with iCloud 😢

### 3/5 — Needs more, but easy to use

*2013-03-01, version 2.7.1*

I found this app to be easy to use, and input data. The history and graphing functions are useful, but lack detail so that you cannot drill down, or change the data inputs. An example; I tried to update my income, and it changed all the past months income to the same number. Transactions are stored, but not income. Would like to have more categories, and updates to easier views of budget.

### 3/5 — Could be great...

*2012-02-08, version 2.6*

This app has a great UI and polish but is lacking a few fundamental pieces that would make it great. As others have stated, the simple ability to add accounts and current balances rather than only monthly incomes would make this app much better. Also, the app rounds amounts to the dollar which doesn't make a ton of sense (pun acknowledged). I really hope the developer(s) will address these few flaws and make their app one of the best finance apps in the AppStore

### 5/5 — I love it!

*2011-07-11, version 2.5*

It's simplicity is refreshing. It keeps enough information to let me know where my money is going, yet not so complex that it becomes cumbersome and I abandon it. I've been using it for almost a year now. Being able to export my data to a spread sheet, and go in and correct previous months are big pluses. One small suggestion: could you option reoccurring transactions to occur on a day of the week (i.e. Thursdays)? Other than that, perfect!!!

### 3/5 — Really basic

*2011-07-02, version 2.5*

Really basic function, and I knew that, but it still needs a bit more function IMO. Somehow I thought you could view spending totals by category and you can't, it just shows you the top 3. If they would just add that one feature it would be a lot more useful. A graph of spending by category would be even better.

Yeah it's pretty but don't expect a lot. It's basically a fancy calculator that just keeps subtracting (or adding) to your account balance, and that's *all* it does.

### 5/5 — Needs subcategories

*2011-07-02, version 2.5*

Love this app!!!! Please bring some advanced mode where users can add subcategories. I know you're trying to keep it simple for the non-tech users, but an advanced mode would be awesome. So many people begging for subcategories. You should really listen to users

### 4/5 — Remember Pennies? This is 10x better

*2011-03-08, version 2.4*

Thanks for reviving the beautiful and simple interface of Pennies guys. The gorgeous UI that of this app makes entering expenses a true pleasure. The statistics in the preview are just the tip of the ice cream. This thing is SLICK.

Currently it's a slight hassle to edit categories, and no support for other currencies - however, from the looks of his home page, the developer is responding positively to user feedback, and those two features will soon be making this app rock even more.

### 4/5 — Nice app but need more features

*2010-12-02, version 0*

This is my first finance app and I was pleased with this purchase. I find it easy to use and nice UI. However, drop that recurring option. I don't find it useful and please include an option to add previous date. It's good to keep accurate data but the date as well. If we can customized the icons, that will be so cool. I have transaction with long notes and to view each of this, I need to tap on it to view more. Please sort that out, perhaps with a larger view window on the transaction summary. Otherwise, good job on the app.

### 5/5 — GREAT UPDATE!

*2010-08-21, version 0*

This app Now has high res and looks great. I now use it on my iPad with the 2x button. It would not take much work to turn this app into a universal app or just make a iPad app and charge us again :( . Though I like the first idea, but if it does not happen, the way this looks, work just fine on the iPad.

### 4/5 — Great UI. Awaiting currency support...

*2010-08-07, version 0*

Great app with smart UI. It functions with basic 'money book' needs. The web app is a bonus...
Waiting for the next upgrade to support real-time currency exchange. That'd be very useful when you go overseas and want to keep track of your expenditure in your preferred currency. (It now detects the country setting of your phone and sets the currency accordingly.)

### 5/5 — Just about perfect for what I need

*2010-07-06, version 0*

This is great if you need an efficient, and unobtrusive expense tracker that focuses on simplicty, speed, and ease of use instead of cluttering it up with a bunch of "features." It's one of those "do one thing and do it very well" apps. And it's beautifully-designed, too. The only gripe I had (non-editable categories) was taken care of in version 2.

### 4/5 — Finally more flexible categories

*2010-06-12, version 0*

Being able to change the categories and see transactions online finally made this app worthy of a download. I've been using it since the very beginning it is nice to see the improvements. One thing I ask though is please...please include the * and / keys on the transaction keypad. Some of us need to do currency conversions on the fly.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — App needs urgent update

*2021-04-08, version 2.12*

iCloud not syncing so I lost all data since probably 10 years , setting buttons not working so I can’t rest my password

### 1/5 — Inept Rollover Function, Poor Help, Obtuse Interface

*2011-08-03, version 2.5*

I've worked hard to learn and adjust to this obtuse interface and got everything working EXCEPT the Rollover function. It is run only once, at the start of a new month, and is NOT adjustable as you change a past month's transactions. Therefore, it is actually an impediment to allowing this app to work within a realistic world. I have had to turn OFF the function and perform the rollover myself every time I alter a past month. This is annoying and KILLS the app's usability for realistic purposes. Meanwhile, the in-app Help is awful, amounting to only a limited FAQ. I am extremely disappointed. Seeing as other similar apps are also awful, I am forced to design my own financial database using one of the iOS database apps.

### 1/5 — Backup Feature Deleted ALL MY DATA

*2011-02-17, version 2.3.1*

I recently tried to backup my data on MoneyBook and went to the settings screen, tapped on the link under BACKUP and then a big arrow button - if a link says "BACKUP" that's what you'd expect to tap to back up your data, right??. Well the app then proceeded to DELETE ALL MY DATA WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHATSOEVER.

Later I discover that there is tiny barely perceptible grayed-out text underneath the big arrow button that says "import backup." Thanks to the confusing and poor UI of this function, I've wasted all my time with this app and LOST ALL MY DATA.

### 2/5 — Good, but limited.

*2011-05-28, version 2.4*

This app should be $.99 in terms of function, but you are paying $2.99 for the style.

The app is fast and easy to navigate and the dev's responded promptly and friendly to my questions. If all you need to do is track expenses from an account total in a very general sense, then this is a great app for you. The app allows you to input your "salary" (income / monetary starting point), and then input your expenses that deduct from that salary/income ... and that's about it.

This app allows you to add custom "categories" but you cannot add custom "vendors" within any category. So, you can track that you spent $100 on "Food" but you cannot track where (Starbucks, Panera, Olive Garden) you spent that $100. You can set up "Starbucks" or "Panera" as a custom "category" so you can track how much you spent at these specific places, but then your overall "Food" expense total is off, and you have to manually add the totals together to determine your true "Food" expense, which means this isn't a complete solution for expense tracking.

Overall, the app has a very stylish/polished look, but very basic function. If all you need is to track expenses in a very general way, this app is for you. If you need any kind of detail in your expense tracking, buy "Moneywell" over this app.

### 2/5 — Crashes on Sync

*2010-11-01, version 0*

This is a great little app. It's simple and basic, which is exactly what most people are looking for.

Unfortunately, one of the main features is not working. With this app, you can create a free online account for their web client to upload your data to for better/bigger viewing of your expenses on a Mac/PC. When you tap the upload button on the iPhone app however, the app crashes. Disappointing because this app looked promising.

### 2/5 — NOT THE RIGHT APP for me

*2010-10-16, version 0*

I've been looking for an iPhone app that would help me keep track of my daily expenses . . . .BUT THIS ISN'T IT. I bought it because of the large keypad (looks like a calculator) entry for expenses, but when you enter the expense it puts it into a catagory (good) but no place to put the name (not so good), ie. $10 to food, but not showing Ralphs. Another wasted $2.99. I've also been disappointed with Financer, and iWallet. If someone ever combines the best of all of these, they'd have a killer app.

### 2/5 — Too simplified to be useful...

*2010-07-30, version 0*

I want to like this app but the developers are too slow in improving it and its features are too basic. After a long wait they finally included the option to customize categories. Unfortunately, you can't choose or change the icons. This app is icon dependent and the inability to change icons makes the app very unappealing to use. I love the simplicity of the app but it's too dumbed down and lacks many basic features that are offered by competing apps. Save your money until the developer starts significantly improving this app on a regular basis.

### 2/5 — After the update...

*2010-01-24, version 0*

The change for ugly, it was a really nice app before the last update, now the "bar view" shows only with the iphone in sideway position, but the main issue is: when you try the bar (sideway) it looks to small becouse there is a feature in the left corner that dosent move with the rest of the bars (so the expences's bars, are located on smaller section of the screen now)

2 - the icon its not as bright as before

3 - there is not bluehighlite any more

4 - i think thi app was relly elegant before.

Subgested inprovements

1 - Give us the chance to chose between Vercions or:

2 - add Gas to categories (on new transations) use a "gas pump as ab icone)

3 - the bluehighlite was nice, added back

4 - let us see the transacions (bars) on full screen sideways or let us slide the whole screen (no just 1 section), also added back te all background the current its not that nuch elegant and its too dark

That would be for me a 5stars app

Thanks !!!!

### 2/5 — WHAT IT NEEDS...

*2010-01-10, version 0*

This is a good looking app but it still needs a few things. The first thing would be the option to lock entry to the app. I dont want anyone to see my monetary information. The lack of this option makes the app unusable, so I am generous giving two stars.

The second thing this app should be able to do is the ability to track checking accounts manually. I want a way to log deposits and withdrawals.

Thanks!

### 3/5 — Loading issue

*2019-01-27, version 2.9.13*

Firstly, I just want to say that I have been using this up for years and I really love the simplicity and ease of use. I have tried most others and none can compare.

However, I upgraded from an iPhone 6 to a XS and ever since, the app has been extremely slow to load. When I open the app, it takes about 3 seconds to load my balance, then when I click on “New transaction”, it takes another 3-5 seconds to load my categories. This is extremely frustrating when I am trying to do a quick expense (which I do multiple times a day).

I’d love for this to be fixed instead of adding new app color options.

Strongly suggested features:

1. Add a weekly recurring transactions. I have some transactions that occur every week which I cannot automate.

2. Add a widget for quick transaction. Perhaps a small 4-5 of the most used categories along with a number pad to add transactions on the fly.

As I said, I have been using this app for years now and I love it, but nothing has really changed for a long time. I’d pay for a V2 with someone of the features I suggested/new ones along with a mini graphical “facelift”.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Best personal budgeting app

*2019-01-25, version 2.9.13*

I’ve used this app for over 5 years and it’s grown with me all along the way across multiple iOS updates and three phones. As long as the developer keeps updating the app (and it’s updated frequently thank goodness), I’ll continue to use it!!!

This is my personal thank you!!!!

### 5/5 — Simple, flexible, not 'grabby' with my info

*2019-01-03, version 2.9.12*

I've been using this app for a long time to help me track and control my spending, and it does everything I need it to without having to log in, connect to an account, or other 'service creep'.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2018-06-08, version 2.9.8*

I used this app every day since 2014 until now every hours
And really need this future in next update ( if u can put pictures with any things u spend i think its amazing thing thank you

### 5/5 — Serious underdog

*2016-05-25, version 2.9.5*

This app has been a staple of my every day life for years now in keeping me financially out of the red in some real paycheck-to-paycheck college years. Very happy to see it receive the iOS 9 treatment. I've tried numerous apps of this type but the layout and options this provides for at-a-glance balancing and quick type-specific transaction deductions/additions is both beautifully efficient in ways the others aren't. And it isn't account-linked so that you can manually go by individual receipt inputs which is always 100% accurate provided you keep up with it.

### 5/5 — Best personal expense tracker available

*2013-05-01, version 2.7.2*

I needed an app to simply track how much I spend and how much I make each month, broken down into categories. Everything is entered manually, which some people don't like, but I love having complete control over the expense categories. Other apps sometimes incorrectly classify expenses. I HIGHLY recommend this app if you're looking for a straightforward expense tracking app without bells and whistles.

### 5/5 — Great! Would love to see more features

*2012-12-10, version 2.7.1*

This is an excellent app! Love how polished it is.

Devs: Would really like to see the ability to choose a payment type for each transaction (e.g. credit card vs cash) with some customization options. Also really wish we could import transactions from CSV.

An all around great app though regardless.

### 5/5 — Perfect!

*2012-02-22, version 2.6*

For the past four years I've been keeping receipts and itemizing them at the end of every month to keep track of my expenses… I would find that life would get in the way and would be months behind. But with this it does exactly what I did before on Excel but only I can do it between the checkout counter and my car. And the website backup (MyMoneyBook) feature where you can see it better and more clear is awesome.

### 5/5 — Great, here's an idea.

*2012-02-08, version 2.6*

The App needs a debt tracker. I buy things with my credit card but I do not necessarily want it to subtract from my 'gas tank' at the moment until I pay my bill later. At the same time I wish to still note it down. The app would benefit from a debt tracker that doesn't subtract from the budget but allows the user to keep track of debt purchases.

### 5/5 — Just what I was looking for!

*2012-01-04, version 2.6*

If you're looking for an app to show you your monthly spending and/or to keep a buget, this one is for you. It is very simple and easy to use.
I was looking for an app that would help me keep track of what I spend on a monthly bases, and this is the one for me.
I hope this helps!

### 5/5 — I LOVE THIS APP! YES!

*2011-07-11, version 2.5*

This app is fresh. I love it. Totally simple. Perfect. I hate the other money apps that go overboard. This let's me track my finances. I accidentally deleted in my sleep but it has a one - touch backup. Easy like cake!

Beautiful to look at. Recurring and monthly role over. Let's u input starting salary. See where ur money goes

Fresh. Lol. Thanks Developers. Get LISTBOOK by same developers 5 strs too!
