## What is MonkeySSH?

Run coding agents on your own servers from iPhone or iPad. MonkeySSH puts native agent conversations, a full SSH terminal, MonkeyMux or tmux windows, and SFTP in one remote workspace.

Choose the right view for each task:

- Chat with supported agents in native windows with streaming replies, tool progress, plans, diffs, permission prompts, images, attachments, slash commands, and session history. Model and mode controls depend on the agent. Get notified when an agent finishes or needs permission.
- Switch to the full terminal whenever you need direct CLI control, xterm-256color, inline images, gestures, modifier keys, function keys, macros, or IME-friendly typing.
- Keep agent and shell work running in persistent MonkeyMux windows. Reconnect, switch windows, and share the same session with your desktop.
- Launch Claude Code, Copilot CLI, Codex, OpenCode, Antigravity, Cursor Agent, Pi, Hermes, OpenClaw, and Grok Build, find recent project-scoped sessions, and save launch presets per host.
- Manage agent CLIs and ACP adapters on a host with Agent Management. Check versions, install or repair supported packages, and update supported installations together. A dot on the terminal menu flags available updates.
- Browse, upload, download, create, and edit remote files over SFTP.
- Generate or import Ed25519 and RSA keys, verify host keys, use jump hosts, and cancel slow connection attempts.
- Forward remote ports, manage live tunnels, and open forwarded services in the in-app browser.
- Save snippets, macros, home-screen shortcuts, and per-host startup settings for repeat work.

Your hosts, keys, snippets, and settings stay on your device. PIN and biometric lock are available, and MonkeySSH does not require cloud sync. Optional analytics and crash reports are off by default and exclude commands, terminal output, paths, hostnames, usernames, clipboard contents, and credentials.

SSH, terminal, SFTP, one connected native chat, and the choice between native and terminal agent windows are free. MonkeySSH Pro adds parallel native chats with instant switching and session forks, agent launch presets and recent-session discovery, Agent Management, auto-connect automation, encrypted transfers and migration packages, and host-specific themes.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 0.6.0 — 2026-09-06

What's new

- Agent Management (Pro): install, repair, and update coding agents and their ACP adapters on a host from your phone. See installed and latest versions, or update supported installations together.
- A dot on the terminal menu now shows when agent updates are available. Turn it off under Settings > Agent update indicators.
- Native agent windows reconnect more reliably after the phone sleeps or a MonkeyMux bridge goes stale.
- Retrying a prompt after an error no longer shows the old error.
- On Windows hosts, agents launch through PowerShell and stray color codes no longer spill into the terminal.
- Gemini CLI support has been removed. Saved presets for it are ignored instead of failing.
- Layout fixes for the home screen and for MonkeyMux sheets under the keyboard.

### 0.5.0 — 2026-08-25

What's new

- Open supported coding agents in a native, touch-friendly conversation without leaving your MonkeyMux workspace.
- Switch the same persistent agent workflow between native chat and the full terminal.
- Follow streamed responses, tool progress, images, attachments, permissions, and session history in the native window.
- Choose whether agent launches prefer native windows, terminal windows, or ask each time.
- Large conversations now open, scroll, and resume more smoothly.

### 0.4.1 — 2026-08-18

What's new in 0.4.1

- Launch or resume Grok Build from the same project-scoped agent picker used for your other coding tools.
- Expanded terminal integration lets compatible tools report progress, notifications, colours, and command boundaries without cluttering the prompt.
- Touch scrolling is smoother and more predictable in full-screen apps, image-heavy output, and long-running sessions.
- Bracketed attachment pastes and shell completion updates are now more reliable.

### 0.4.0 — 2026-08-10

What's new in 0.4.0

- Turn on automatic port forwarding straight from the terminal: the Port Forwards sheet now has a "Detect open ports" switch that applies to the live session right away.
- The tmux/MonkeyMux bar now belongs to the connection you are actually attached to, so it no longer appears for a host that has nothing running.
- Agents that ask whether the terminal is light or dark get an answer while their window runs in the background, so they pick the right colour scheme instead of leaving stray escape text at the prompt.
- MonkeyMux sessions recover from a recycled process ID instead of locking you out, and an unusual session name can no longer be mistaken for a different session.

### 0.3.3 — 2026-08-07

What's new in 0.3.3

- Pasting into Windows remotes keeps bracketed paste intact, so editors and agents treat it as a paste instead of typed keystrokes.
- Links no longer show up as stray escape text in the terminal.
- Escape stays responsive while a paste is still arriving.
- Keystrokes arrive in order when attaching to a MonkeyMux window.
