Overall, this is a great monochrome editing app. It's the best I've used in years. The features are unequalled and very granular to the finest details.

The only problem (bug) is that it crashes every time I try to use the "scratch" feature. I'm using an iPhone 6S+ with the latest iOS. 
I'm hoping the dev team will fix this bug in another update.

This app has simple controls, but is so effective. Results are clean, swipe controls' increments are small so you get that precise look you want, the UI is not bloated and is very intuitive. I especially like the way the intensity of grain and film scratches change with the swipes. 

I wish, though, that there was a way to save all the settings into a preset that can instantly be applied later. Otherwise, this BW app does the job very well.

Not ready to give it a 4 or 5 yet but if I continue to get the results I'm seeing now I'll be back to change this to more stars. Deceptively simple to use and with interesting tones and shadows...

You might try to see from screenshots which functions do the app have. But all those top and bottom buttons are actually fake and don't do what their icons mean. They are here just for screenshots, to fool you and make you download this app.
All the bottom buttons actually do a couple of adjustments.
- Fake controls to fool you
- All these functions exist in almost every photo app out here, including a lot of free ones
- Results will usually be too boring and ordinary
- The set of functions is about 1/12 of all essential tools you need for BW photography

+ You may use the app for BW, in some aspect (the reason I give 2 stars instead of 1)
+ Nice photo selection dialog

仕上がりなどは可もなく不可もない感じだが、編集モードONのときに縦構図の写真を読み込んだ場合の保存サイズがスクエアのみというのはどうしたものか。
そのような形式でしか保存出来ないのなら、その旨をしっかりと説明文に記載すべきでは？
たかが¥200ごときでとお思いかもしれないが、質の良いモノクロアプリが少ない中で期待して落としただけにだいぶガッカリさせられた。
これからダウンロードする方々の為にも、すぐに説明文に追記して下さい。
すべてのフォトグラファーがスクエア好きな訳ではないだから。
同じ問題で悩んだ方がいるかどうかはわかりませんが、スクエアサイズではなく元のサイズで加工・保存したい場合は編集モードをOFFにしておけば問題ないようです。

Nice black and white camera app that is a great addition to youthhr's other apps. Monochromia has a great slider interface that allows you to customize a variety of options including contrast, brightness, vignette, film grain, and color (for these last two options, be sure to use your finger to scroll down. Love how the processing allows for high contrast photos and how you can arrange the slider options to create moody, dark black and whites.

This app is great! It would be FANTASTIC...IF you could actually save your photos! Please please fix this.

I was able to email the pic to myself but it’s going to be time consuming to finally get the end product. -take photos (fun)
                        -send self email with attached 
                          photos (blah)
                        -save photos from email.....
😕 etc... you get the picture? (No pun intended)

You can't import photos ... then again I wouldn't know since the app won't stay open long enough. And if you're lucky enough to even take a photo, it crashes. 

I'm sure the app developers are reading this ... I'm surprised it hasn't been fixed.

Unbelievable how an app can be released with so many deficiencies.
1) Film grain effect slider causes a random level of grain. 0 does not mean no grain and 1 does not mean max. grain. Different, random, effect each time you move the slider. 
2) Brightness slider goes from 0-1.  Had imagined that moving slider towards 1 would mean greater brightness and towards 0, less brightness. No, again it's random, sometimes moving towards 0 gets a brighter image, sometimes even entirely black. 
3) Changing the contrast slider creates a similar random effect as the brightness slider. 
4) Changing the brightness and/or contrast slider has also changes the level of grain! So besides the random brightness/contrast, another random variable appears. 
5) No zoom feature, the controls clutter the screen. 

Overall an extremely poor attempt for B&W app. Can't understand how any self-respecting iPhoneography app review site could have endorsed this app.  
Stick with Simply B&W, Noir, Monophix or Dramatic B&W if you want a working monochrome app.

UPDATE: 
Developer has released 1.6.0 and 1.6.1 in quick succession to make it iOS5 compatible and fix the bugs according to the description.
I can report that ALL PROBLEMS STILL EXIST. 
Surely not a cynical attempt to reset the ratings for this app...  the app doesn't deserve to be in the app store. Save your money and buy a B&W app that works.

Monochromia is one of my two go-to b+w apps, the other being Tiffen Photo fx. 

It's basically a re-purposed, b+w only version of Cameramatic (also by same dev, and I highly, highly recommend that app, too).

There are a couple of reasons why buying Monochromia on top of Cameramatic makes sense: one is that it's "full screen", i.e. you aren't confined to a square format, and another is that the workflow's a lot more direct (fewer steps in loading and saving than in Cameramatic).

The results are uniformly gorgeous, and the dev knows who he's devving for by allowing us to save as full res PNGs.

Other handy aspects: filtration by color, variable grain & vignette, 3 layers of control, and a handful of useful (editable) presets.

Another winner, and another cigar for the dev--thanks!

Very nice!! I shot tri-x for close to 30 years before going digi and this app can really produce some beautiful images!! Only requests I would have would be an option for filtering the images....meaning the ability to choose "blue" filtering to achieve the look of orthochromatic film and an option for adding a slight glow, as if the film was pre "safety film" and did not incorporate any anti halation backing. I have purchased all of the devs apps and every single one produces unique, beautiful images!! Thanks dev!!

I tend to use this app a ton for photos I post on flickr, alongside Vint B/w, swankolab and PhotoFX. Between those apps and this one you can do some amazing things. I feel this is an essential app for me, so if you like taking black/white photos you should definitely take a chance on this program.  It's well worth it.
