### 5/5 — The best

*2014-03-14*

There are a lot of BW editors out there, but the new Monokrom is best. Fun. Intuitive. Amazing!

### 5/5 — Rivals desktop solutions

*2014-03-05, version 2.0*

For B&W I now do not need to revert back to the desktop for processing, I have 100% workflow on the iPad. Monokrom rivals Silver Efex in its rendering quality and ease. Will be nice to see 16-bit image editing at some point for even greater image quality.

### 5/5 — Beautiful app!

*2014-02-19, version 2.0*

Monokrom is intuitive and so easy to use, and produces rich, deep mono photos. It's a go-to app and an important part of my camera bag. 👍👍👍

### 5/5 — Simple

*2013-08-23, version 1.2*

The interface is wonderful and simple. Saves at 8 mp on iPhone 5. I just got it, and am going to be playing around with it! Great job!

### 5/5 — More stars as promised

*2013-08-08, version 1.1*

Now the Exif data is retained here are two more stars and my thanks for the update. This app is a no brainer if you love b&w!

Soooo very easy to use with amazing results. A must have app!!! :)

### 5/5 — Wow!

*2013-07-26*

I bought this because it looked like a lot of fun for $1 and was astonished that the resulting photos have more depth and sparkle than anything I can achieve with my most sophisticated B&W conversion app. Well done!

### 5/5 — Stinning Effects, Simple and Intuitive! And Full Resolution!

*2013-07-25, version 1.0*

A unique, very intuitive interface. Two disks, moved around the screen to instantly see the effects. What could be easier. The app produces some very pleasing black and white, as well as subtle toned effects.

The app saves at full resolution (12.1mp tested on the iPad2).

The app is worth the investment if you are interested in black and white conversions.

### 5/5 — Great photo app

*2013-07-25, version 1.0*

### 5/5 — Fun way to create B&W photos

*2013-07-24, version 1.0*

I love B&W photos and this app allows you to easily play with the picture to generate the tone and feel you want.

### 5/5 — MonoCan

*2013-07-23, version 1.0*

Fun & easy to use App that not only changes color pictures into black and white images, but also allows the user to play around with pictures making them blacker & whiter until the desired look is achieved. Quick, simple, & classy; what more could you want?

### 5/5 — Monokrome rocks :)

*2013-07-23, version 1.0*

This is the easiest black and white editor I have ever used! Love it!

### 5/5 — I'm super excited for this app

*2013-07-23, version 1.0*

I love the ability to expand photos to be the best they can be!! Thank you!

### 5/5 — Monochrom

*2013-07-23, version 1.0*

This app is for the right-brained technically challenged photographers who want to edit their photos but others apps are to difficult to read and figure out. The two buttons that you can move around to edit with are FANTASTIC. Buy it!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 3/5 — Fair in full Editing

*2015-07-26, version 2.02*

Very good for adjusting the total image; needs a brush tool to target specific areas.

### 4/5 — Mostly good

*2016-01-21, version 2.03*

Personally I would prefer sliders to x/y pucks, but they work fine. Photoshop-like controls for each colors conversion to brightness would be nice too. The ability to take photo from the app wouldn't hurt. And finally, an update for the bigger phone screens would be nice.

But so far this is the most powerful black and white photo app I've found to date. No annoying in-app photo library and tiff exporting works great with other photo apps that save tiffs.

### 4/5 — Intuitive controls

*2015-01-04, version 2.02*

Nice app, I love the way the controls are set up

### 5/5 — Good App A+++

*2021-01-17*

This app works fantastic and easy to use. Worthy to buy.

### 5/5 — Intuitive

*2019-08-23*

Sometimes you know what you want so you can go to an app that has a selection of classic film simulations. Other times you want something more intuitive, something that lets you experiment with values without tying you down to sliders, something that lets you feel the process of black and white conversions.

Monokrom is that app. If you’re serious about black and white, you need this app in your toolbox.

Developer is very responsive too. I reported an issue specific to the IOS beta and he fixed it in a couple of days and added iPad Pro support too.

Highly recommended.

### 5/5 — Clearly Wonderful

*2019-03-03*

This is one of the best interface designs I have seen in a number of years. It is infinitely variable and extraordinarily precise. Wish more photo editors employed this approach rather than the ubiquitous sliders...

It reads or converts RAW files and saves as TIFF.

My only wish would be the ability to zoom into an image to view very subtle changes in grain etc., but that might not be possible with the positional pucks...

Wishing for a version in colour😀

It has a prime place among my image editing Apps... thank you!

### 5/5 — Phenomenal App

*2019-02-22, version 2.05*

So intuitive and fast, Amazingly powerful on the fly editing app! I hope it keeps getting updated and promoted !

### 5/5 — Highly intuitive and novel approach

*2018-10-11*

Simply delightful approach. Much more flexible and enjoyable than picking presets or manipulating a collection of sliders. Very cheap too!

### 5/5 — Simply Beautiful

*2018-08-07*

I have absolutely no idea why more people aren’t using or talking about this app. Simple, intuitive, highly flexible black & white conversion that thinks like I do. A joy to use and results in beautiful images. Huge thanks to the developer for a wonderful app experience!

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2015-02-15*

This is a fantastic app. The simplicity with which an image can be adjusted is wonderful. The output is great and the tone/finish steps make for a great, logical approach to digital monochrome editing.

## Most praised reviews (3 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Probably the best b&w app out there.

*2014-12-04, version 2.02*

The resulting image quality is probably the best out of any other app that I've used. At this point for b&w it's gonna be this one, Provoke, and One Hour Photo for me (each for slightly different needs).

### 5/5 — A Gem of an App!

*2014-08-03, version 2.01*

I'm an artist who spends anywhere from days to weeks on a piece, generating hundreds (and sometimes well over a thousand) intermediate versions and bits and pieces before a work is DONE done. ;)

So, I'm always refreshed by an app that makes a result...simpler. This is it for monochrome. Wow! What a great UI. Fun, intuitive, responsive, and immediate. (It also doesn't hurt that those nice controls are hooked up to some fantastic looking output.)

Also: original res and TIFF saves. This Dev is serious. My hat's off to him--all of that, plus the vast wasteland of bad/hinky clones of everything else out there. This has some personality to it without being trendy.

Cheers,

### 5/5 — Quick and Simple Excellence

*2014-05-13, version 2.01*

I own many B&W editing apps. They've all been deleted except for one: Monokrom. This app is easy enough for a novice, yet provides enough control for more advanced users. Monokrom is a worthy addition for any mobile photographer.
