### 1/5 — Was great until

*2025-02-04*

Was great until it quit working like it should. Now all I have is connection issues, have to unplug it to connect back to the network. Can’t upload/download photos until I’m home and on the network and I hope it has stayed connected. I’m getting pressure to use an online web service for my backup system.

### 1/5 — Lack of Support Contact

*2025-01-05, version 3.2.2*

Although there is plenty of free space on my 4TB HD, and the app shows uploading when connected to WiFi, pictures only show on my iPhone until January 2024. None of the photos of the past 11 months are showing in my app. I tried to find a way to contact support but apart from a long list of FAQs there is no way to email or chat with their alleged first class support. This is unacceptable and needs some attention from the developers.

### 2/5 — What’s going on?

*2025-01-01, version 3.2.2*

I can’t get monument to upload anymore! What’s going on? No updates in over a year!!

### 1/5 — Stay Away from This App

*2024-12-23*

I’ve had a horrible experience with Monument. For the past 4-5 months, my device has completely stopped doing automatic backups. Despite multiple attempts to reach out to Monument’s support team, I haven’t received a single response.

To make things worse, while I can still access the app, I’m unable to upload any new photos – even though there’s plenty of available storage. I’ve tried every possible way to get in touch with them, but it feels like I’m being ignored.

At this point, I can’t recommend this app or company to anyone. Save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere.

### 2/5 — Glitches again

*2024-12-14, version 3.2.2*

I recently updated to IOS 18.2, and suddenly I try to open the app which immediately shuts down. Further the app continuously keeps disconnecting from the wifi, having me unplug the device and telling it in order to connect.

### 1/5 — Was great. No support.

*2024-11-10*

I have been emailing support for over one year with the only reply being the automated reply about getting my email and giving my ticket number. I have tried many times over a year. The two hardware Monuments are no longer for sale and I don't believe any human is in support. Why would anyone spend money on their iCloud with this type of support? These past 7 years of raid saved pictures that I saved on SS drives for safekeeping thinking I could always retrieve are lost? I wish there was a Class action suit against a company I put my trust into.

### 1/5 — Only work when it wants

*2024-11-02, version 3.2.2*

Nice idea but it only works when it wants.

### 1/5 — Cannot connect when outside of home.

*2024-10-27, version 3.2.2*

Issue with monument server.

### 3/5 — iOS18

*2024-09-24*

Updated to iOS 18 and my hard drive has problems and cannot be repaired by disk utility. Tried restoring it from a back up to a different disk and it works fine until I launch the iOS app and then it breaks the drive again. Can it be a mapping issue between the app and the recently update to iOS? Either way I’m stuck with no way to back up my photos now.

### 1/5 — Not working

*2024-09-22, version 3.2.2*

App wouldn’t open, reinstalled it and now it says my monument needs a firmware update to work, not sure if it has anything to do with the latest iPhone software update, but would be great to get fixed asap.
I would steer clear of using this platform for your photos if their app can stop working and break its support for a first gen product. I bought it because I thought I would buy it once and not need to worry again.
Steer clear people!

### 1/5 — Utterly rubbish

*2024-08-05, version 3.2.2*

Great idea but the app doesn't work, customer service is non-existing.

### 2/5 — Was excellent - sadly seems abandonned

*2024-07-20, version 3.2.2*

I’ve been a supporter of Monument Labs from the original Kickstarter, upgrading from Monument 1 to the SSD Monument 2.

In recent months, the company’s focus and efforts appear to have shifted to their Cloud platform, with support for the Monument hardware becoming unresponsive.

I can no longer connect to the device from this app, despite the Moument being connected to my network and accessible from the desktop app. Their help site provides no contact information, just a bunch of FAQs that don’t help.

I’m left wondering if this is the end of the line for the hardware. Zero communication fom the vendor does not help loyal customers.

Looks like I’ll have to move to Immich or another self-hosted solution for photo storage (again).

### 1/5 — Too slow, face recognition and search is terrible

*2024-06-16, version 3.2.2*

Too slow, face recognition and search is terrible. Need a big new update!

### 1/5 — Very buggy

*2024-05-18, version 3.2.2*

After a few years using it, it is still very buggy and unstable!

### 1/5 — Monument 1

*2024-02-26, version 3.2.2*

Cannot get in contact with customer support.

### 1/5 — For now,

*2024-01-15, version 3.2.2*

Since I'm not able to set up after following direction and waiting on a ticket to trouble shoot I'm giving 2 stars. I'm sure this will change once I get the app and device working with no glitches or app lagging.

### 1/5 — missing backups, need to reinstall app

*2023-06-30, version 3.2.2*

some photos will not be synced, need to reinstall the app multiple times to get all the photos synced!
please fix!

### 1/5 — A mess! Not working

*2023-06-18, version 3.2.2*

A mess! Slow and finally failing all time. Can’t use it at all as it always shuts down during the album synchronizing process

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Company out of business

*2025-08-12, version 3.2.2*

Don’t bother with the app, company went out of business and the app no longer works.

### 1/5 — Company gone

*2025-07-12, version 3.2.2*

Sadly don’t expect any help. The company have closed with no word or communication. Very poor. Hope the CEO cries in their Bentley each day.

### 1/5 — Loved concept BUT

*2025-06-29, version 3.2.2*

I loved the concept but where is the company and where is the support?!? I’ve had a few issues and it is IMPOSSIBLE to get support. Right now, I have an issue where remote access is down and I can’t turn it on, so I can only access photos on monument when I’m on the same network, which is frustrating.

### 1/5 — I think they’re dead

*2025-06-04, version 3.2.2*

I have been trying to contact them for almost 2 years. It seems that I wasted not only my money by supporting their so-called Kickstarter projects but also my time. All my pictures now are inaccessible because their server is gone. Terrible service.

### 1/5 — A good, but dead, idea

*2025-05-26, version 3.2.2*

I got the Monument2 device on a kickstarter. Was a great idea that I could use my NAS to upload pics from the devices of my whole family. It worked for a while. I missed the memo that the device was going out of support. The device died silently. Some photos were lost. Back to iCloud or Amazon Photos.

There is no longer any support for the hardware and it appears rhetorical company went to a cloud only model two years ago. Their support site is broken. What a shame. Such a good idea.

### 1/5 — Support does not exist

*2025-05-17, version 3.2.2*

For almost a month I have been unable to log into my device and for half a month support has been silent on my requests for support.

### 1/5 — The Monument Photo Management system had so much potential!

*2025-05-14, version 3.2.2*

Does not seem to be working any longer, the app does not connect, and it has not been updated in over 2 Years! Multiple support requests have gone unanswered.

### 1/5 — terrible support

*2025-04-10, version 3.2.2*

I don't trust this project, there is no support terrible way to setup your monument box. I can't say anything good about this project. Kickstarter projects nevermore!

### 1/5 — Only work when it wants

*2025-04-04, version 3.2.2*

Nice idea but it only works when it wants to or never works.

### 1/5 — No longer works why still on App Store

*2025-03-14, version 3.2.2*

This product is no longer working or supported, so why are they still selling product and people are still able to download!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great Photo Backup tool

*2024-10-30*

I wanted a way to wirelessly backup photos from my phone and have it be accessible to me from anywhere and this is the best device (and app) I could find. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is concerned about the privacy and quality of uploading photos to any cloud provider.

Too bad this company also pivoted towards cloud storage now. I really wish they didn't.

### 5/5 — Great photo backup

*2024-10-01*

Good way to backup your photos anywhere you are. Run out of space on your backup drive, attach a larger capacity drive and go!

A complaint I have is that I have activated background app refresh in my iPhone, don’t close the window but go to other apps, then back to Monument app and it “reconnects.” No progress on upload to monument back home till it reconnect. Why?

### 5/5 — One of the best services out there and GREAT Customer Support

*2023-05-08*

I have been a long-time user of the Monument Hub (the first one) and have faithfully carried round my hub and to small HDs with backup and backup copies on them. It was with delight that I discovered the Monument Cloud service, allowing me to backup my photos and videos without having to carry round the hardware! The service quickly uploaded all my photos and videos, except 1% remaining of them. However, the attentive staff promptly worked with me and helped me overcome the issue and now the service rapidly uploads all new photos and videos to the service. I cannot recommend this service and their staff enough! A+++

### 5/5 — Quick fix of 3.0.7 with 3.0.8 worked!

*2022-02-13*

Keep up with the improvements. I’m using 2 of these devices for myself and my relatives (close family). The ease of use on windows, iPad, iPhone and among family of all ages is excellent. Finally a solution for managing years of digital photos.

### 5/5 — Best Choice for a Private Cloud

*2020-01-04*

This is a great alternative to WDMyCloud Home. This is a true solution to a private cloud. You control the size of the HDD’s etc. Best decision to change to this great product. Staff is amazing and quick to respond. Fantastic experience.

### 5/5 — Quite an amazing device.

*2019-12-08, version 2.17.2*

I have encountered glitches that over a time has been resolved with new updates. Connecting to Monument when not in range of my wifi was an issue that seems to have been solved. If you have many and various devices all taking photos, this device automatically gathers all photos and organisms them on your external hard drives all in one place, leaving you free to delete photos on your devices. It works silently and in the background. My opinion, this is a wonderful device.

### 5/5 — Not entirely intuitive, but working very well

*2019-12-08, version 2.17.2*

Setup was surprisingly easy (I am not tech-savvy) and photos from my devices were collected easily. The computer photos were handled a bit differently, but it worked well enough once I figured out how to do it. SD cards imported easily. I love that I can access the photos across devices remotely, and give access to others. Tech support has been very responsive.
All in all, it feels great to have all my photos in one place, with duplicates eliminated, and some sorting and recognition!

### 5/5 — Solid product with great customer service

*2019-10-15*

As with any new technology there are occasional glitches, but it works really well most of the time. The best part is that their customer service is prompt and thorough. On the whole I strongly recommend this as a great way to back up your photos and keep them all in one place.

### 5/5 — Genius product

*2019-08-02, version 2.16.1*

Having filed and stored my photos in multiple systems over the years, plus swapping from PC to Mac and back again, having multiple phones plus iPads in the house....our photos were a shambles. Monument solves this problem for me 100%. Takes all the hard work out of filing, backing up, and tagging my photos. My kids are loving having access to old baby photos on the iPads now. I am loving having space on my phone again, while still having access to all my photos....and all without having to pay for cloud storage. WIN WIN WIN WIN!!! These guys deserve a medal. Plus they have answered all of my questions as I go and keep updating the desktop app - so it just keeps getting better. No where but UP for these guys!

### 5/5 — Great App

*2019-07-29, version 2.16.1*

Thanks for continually adding great new features!
