About

Moonshot answers one question for photographers: is the moon worth shooting tonight — and exactly when and where will it rise? No subscription. No account. Works offline. Your data never leaves your device. TONIGHT, AT A GLANCE One card with everything: moonrise and moonset times, the phase and illumination percentage, the moon's age in days, the compass bearing of rise and set ("rises at 60° ENE"), and how high it climbs. A simple Great / Good / Poor badge tells you instantly whether tonight is worth setting up — judged from brightness and whether the moon is actually up during shootable evening hours. POINT YOUR PHONE AT THE MOONRISE The compass rose marks tonight's rise and set azimuths as arrows, plus a live marker for where the moon is right now. On devices with a compass, the rose rotates with your phone so the arrows point at the real horizon — line up your foreground before the moon clears it. PLAN THE SHOT WEEKS AHEAD Check any date on the calendar. Scan the next 14 nights — rise time, phase and illumination for each — with full and new moons highlighted. See the next six full moons with their traditional names: Wolf, Snow, Worm, Pink, Flower, Strawberry, Buck, Sturgeon, Harvest, Hunter's, Beaver, Cold. WORKS ANYWHERE, FULLY OFFLINE Use your location once, search a built-in list of world cities, or type exact coordinates for a shoot spot far from anywhere. Moonshot remembers your spot. Every number is computed on your device with a Meeus astronomical ephemeris — in the desert, on a summit, or in airplane mode. Times are approximate to a few minutes, which is exactly what you need to be in position early. Built for photographers who'd rather be shooting than doing astronomy homework.
