## What is Moray?

Moray is a native SSH, SFTP, and terminal client for iPhone, iPad, and Mac — with a real terminal, a dual-pane file manager, port-forwarding tunnels, and on-device key security. With Moray Pro, your hosts and snippets sync through your own iCloud; your keys and passwords never leave the Keychain unless you choose. No account, no vendor server.

▸ A REAL TERMINAL
A full terminal powered by SwiftTerm — rich color, a fast keyboard, and smooth scrollback. Open several sessions as tabs, name them, switch between them from the keyboard, search the scrollback, and run commands automatically on connect. Moray remembers what you typed on each server — never a password — so you can search it and re-run. The Smart Bar puts arrows, Esc, Tab, Ctrl, and paste one tap away.

▸ SFTP FILE MANAGER
Browse, upload, download, rename, and delete over SFTP, reopening in the folder you left. Preview with Quick Look, edit text files in place, or pick which app opens each file type. On iPad and Mac, a dual-pane manager copies files and folders between servers — or to your computer — with drag and drop, and a file pane can sit beside the terminal.

▸ YOUR SERVERS IN THE FILES APP
On iPhone and iPad, mount a host and it appears in Files next to iCloud Drive — open a remote file straight into any app that uses the document picker, and save back to it.

▸ PORT-FORWARDING TUNNELS
Forward a local port to a database or dashboard behind your server. Import LocalForward lines from ~/.ssh/config, start every tunnel with one tap, and keep them running with a Live Activity.

▸ KEYS DONE RIGHT
Generate Ed25519 keys, or import Ed25519 and RSA keys. Keys and saved passwords live in the device Keychain — encrypted, never synced unless you opt in, and behind an optional biometric app lock. A new server's fingerprint and key picture are shown before you trust it; a key that later changes stops the connection, with both keys side by side.

▸ SMART AUTOFILL
Moray spots sudo, login and passphrase prompts and offers a Face ID– or Touch ID–gated fill — enter your password once, not every time.

▸ ORGANIZED HOSTS
Group and tag your servers, with an icon and color each. Quick Connect (⇧⌘K) and Siri Shortcuts connect you in seconds; jump hosts reach servers behind a bastion.

▸ SNIPPETS
Save the commands you run all the time — with fill-in placeholders — and run or paste them into any session.

▸ MAKE IT YOURS
Start from built-in terminal themes or design your own with a full color editor. Choose your font — SF Mono, Menlo, or any monospaced font you've installed — plus size, line height and cursor style.

▸ SYNC, YOUR WAY (MORAY PRO)
With Moray Pro, hosts, groups, snippets and host keys sync through your own iCloud — no Moray account, ever. Keys stay on the device unless you turn on iCloud Keychain sync.

▸ APPLE-NATIVE THROUGHOUT
Siri and Spotlight, recent-hosts widgets (Moray Pro), a keyboard-driven Mac app with a menu-bar extra, a biometric app lock, and JSON backup.

FREE & PRO

Free: unlimited hosts, the terminal (up to three sessions at once), a single-pane SFTP file manager, the remote editor, key management, autofill, command history, SSH config import, and Quick Connect. Moray Pro adds iCloud sync, port-forwarding tunnels, jump hosts, automatic key auth, dual-pane transfers and server-to-server copy, Files app mounts, unlimited terminal tabs, custom themes, unlimited snippets, and widgets — as a monthly or yearly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase.

________________

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

• No account and no vendor servers — sync (Moray Pro) is your iCloud, or nothing
• Private keys and passwords stay in the Keychain, device-local by default
• Host-key checks you can see: a new server's fingerprint is shown before it's trusted, and a changed key stops the connection until you decide

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.2.0 — 2026-10-14

Moray 1.2 checks every new server with you, and tidies up the rough edges.

• SEE A SERVER BEFORE YOU TRUST IT — The first time you connect, Moray shows the server's fingerprint and its key picture (the same one ssh-keygen draws) and waits for Trust & Connect. If a server's key ever changes, you get a clear "Server identity changed" screen with both keys side by side, instead of a wall of text.

• ERRORS IN PLAIN WORDS — "Couldn't reach db.example.com (DNS lookup failed)" instead of library text, with the details a tap away. Messages are never cut off.

• YOUR FONT, YOUR WAY — Pick SF Mono, Menlo or any monospaced font you have, set the line height, and choose whether Option sends Meta. The terminal bell now flashes and marks the tab.

• A TRANSFER QUEUE YOU CONTROL — Every upload, download and copy in one list, with its speed and time left. Drag waiting files into a new order, rename them before they land, pause and resume (Moray checks the file hasn't changed before it continues), retry what failed and clear what's done.

• FASTER START — Onboarding opens on connecting; Face ID is offered once you've saved a password. Quick Connect highlights what Return will open.

• IPHONE — Four tabs. Keychain and Settings live behind the Hosts toolbar.

• TUNNELS — Each tunnel reads the way it travels, "This device :5432 → prod-db → localhost:5432", with a copy button.

• EASIER TO READ AND TAP — Higher-contrast text and accents, 44-point buttons, and screens that hold at the largest text sizes.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-10-01

A reliability release: dropped connections come back by themselves, and your files are safer than ever.

• CONNECTIONS THAT COME BACK — Moray now notices a dead connection within about a minute instead of hanging, and a terminal that was working reconnects on its own. Tunnels come back by themselves too, and when something does fail, the message says what actually happened.

• JUMP HOSTS, EVERYWHERE — Every way into a host now goes through its jump host: new tabs, the Files pane, restored sessions and tunnels. If the jump host is missing, Moray stops rather than connecting directly.

• A WRONG PASSWORD IS NO LONGER A DEAD END — Type it again right in the session. A password is only saved once the server accepts it.

• SAFER SAVES AND TRANSFERS — Saving a remote file writes the new version beside it and swaps it in only once it's complete, so an interrupted save never leaves you with an empty file. Transferred files keep their permissions and dates, and links to folders open, copy and delete the way you'd expect.

• MORAY PRO FOLLOWS YOU — Pro now travels with you through your iCloud Keychain, to your other devices and to Moray for Mac.

• STICKY CTRL AND ALT — Tap Ctrl or Alt on the key row and it applies to the next key you type, from the key row or the keyboard.

• YOUR CHOICE ON DIAGNOSTICS — Moray can now send crash reports and anonymous usage so problems get fixed faster. Never your hosts, commands, files or keys, and one switch in Settings ▸ Privacy turns it off.

FIXED — Host keys stay pinned to the one you trusted first, even across devices. Importing ~/.ssh/config now follows the same rules OpenSSH does. Passwords typed at prompts Moray doesn't recognise are kept out of command history. Closing a Log Tail stops the command on the server.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-09-01

Your servers now live in the Files app — and the terminal and your files finally sit side by side.

• MOUNT A HOST IN FILES — Turn on a mount and the server shows up in Files on iPhone and iPad, next to iCloud Drive. Browse it, open a file straight into any app that uses the document picker, and save back to it. Downloads draw a real progress bar and can be cancelled. Two servers that share a name are told apart by their group, so "Web" and "Web" stop looking identical.

• FILES BESIDE THE TERMINAL — On iPad and Mac, open a file pane next to the session you're working in. It opens on the folder your shell is standing in, and closing it leaves the connection running.

• STAY WHERE YOU LEFT OFF — Switching to another tab and back used to drop you at the top and hang up the connection. Terminals and Files now keep the session you were in — same server, same folder — and a server reopens in the folder you left it in, not at the filesystem root.

• CHOOSE WHICH APP OPENS WHAT — Set one default for every remote file, or a rule per file type: Moray's own editor, Quick Look, or any app on your Mac. "Always Open With" sets it from the file itself; Settings lists every rule you've made.

• COMMAND HISTORY, PER HOST — Moray now remembers what you typed on each server, ranked by how recently and how often you ran it. Search it from the terminal's History sheet, then re-run or paste in a tap. Anything typed at a password or passphrase prompt is never recorded, and a leading space keeps a command out of history the way shells have always allowed.

• SEVERAL SHELLS, ONE SERVER — Open sessions on the same host are numbered instead of all reading alike, and any session can be renamed to "deploy" or "logs". On a hardware keyboard, ⌘1–⌘9 jump between tabs and ⌘T opens a new one.

• IMPORT THE HOSTS YOU ALREADY HAVE — "Import Hosts…" now reads JSON and CSV exports from other SSH clients as well as ~/.ssh/config. Folders in the export become Moray groups, and importing twice won't duplicate them.

• SEE AND CHANGE YOUR SECRETS — Saved passwords can be revealed and edited wherever you set them, and a private key's passphrase can now be changed or removed.

FIXED — Pasting into the terminal could leave a stray "~" behind; input is now sent strictly in the order you typed it. An iCloud sync failure said "CKErrorDomain Code=2" and now says what actually went wrong.
