I rated 4 star because I use the desktop version all the times. But really, the mobile app is useless for me because one important feature is missing. In the portfolio, there is no customization to reorder the rows of holdings other than sorting. It can only sort by alphabetical order of the symbols. If I want to look at two stocks or ETFs next to each other for comparison, I am out of luck. In the desktop version, I can use the “my notes” column to enter numbers and letters to sort the rows to my desired order. But the mobile app doesn’t have “my notes” column. I wish the rows in portfolio can be reordered manually like what yahoo’s mobile app does. A “notes” column will be a plus feature. Thanks. ### 3/5 — Not good *2026-04-20, version 8.3.0* Very basic. Some of the functionality is not even working like I could not add stocks to watchlist. You can’t really pull up a watchlist without the app freezing. Displaying incorrectly, or the app closing. And you cannot add to a watchlist, unless it happens to he the first watchlist on your list. It just keeps reverting back to the first list. It’s so annoying. It’s like they gave up caring about their app. ### 3/5 — Love Morningstar, Web Functionality Is Better *2025-11-14, version 8.1.0* Overall, I love Morningstar it’s a great site and company. This app needs a little bit of love, doesn’t have much of the features I like including portfolio X-ray. It also gets buggy frequently displaying an error occurred. I like it for simple stuff like quote checks but beyond that it’s a little limited. Really amateurish. ### 1/5 — Continues to go downhill *2026-05-17, version 8.4.0* Morningstar’s desktop access has been rebuilt with less functionality YOY since 2019; it’s no surprise MStar is apparently not smart enough to write a separate responsive application for their mobile app. Clumsy, clunky, offering little to the retail investor, it’s apparently designed for MStar employees or something… there are better apps elsewhere! ### 1/5 — Behind the times *2026-05-07, version 8.4.0* This app has not been updated in years in terms of its functionality. All I seem to get is an error message when I try to login. This has been for at least 6 months. Kinda sad. Morningstar reported “an error has occurred”. Their equity style box is a nice way to see a simple snap shot of the market. You have access to stock’s rating as well as various new articles. The only thing I wish they would add are widgets for iOS so I could see the equity style box when ever I open my phone. That would be a great addition. ### 5/5 — Annoying sign in every time *2021-07-14* The new mobile app now requires the user sign in AND authorize Morningstar to share user information with others. Presumably this is Morningstar’s answer to Apple’s opt-out of sharing data function but it is infuriating and I already paid for premium so what option do I have? Don’t agree to the sharing and then not be able to use what I paid for? Morningstar, please correct this annoying and heavy handed change to what was a 5 star app. Update - 1 day after submitting my comment I received a reply that the app was updated and the annoying repeated sign in requirement was fixed. 5 stars! **Developer response:** Dear User, thanks for your confirmation that login is now working and that now its 5 star. Can you please change the rating too :) ### 5/5 — Sign in (was) a Pain! *2021-07-13, version 5.1.0* Before: Having to sign in each time I jump in & out of MS has become such a pain that I use Other sites instead to get market/portfolio info. PLEASE lengthen the time between required sign ins or at least provide a way to do touch passwords. And now an update: Thank you for your great response MS & Apple!! The 23 hours before requiring another sign-in is just perfect. Get the trial and check out the Analysis for all of your stocks. I hand calculated a few fair value estimates to test their math and I was within a few percent of their answer. With their in depth analysis their math (and vision) is far better than mine I think.
