## What is Mortise?

A serious compatibility check for two people deciding something real — marriage or a business partnership. Each of you answers on your own iPhone. Results cross phone-to-phone. No server. No account.

Mortise is for the decision moment: getting engaged, moving in, starting a company together. Choose the pair type — Couple or Business partners — and each of you completes a substantial battery on your own iPhone, at your own pace, in two or three sittings (about 40 minutes each in total, honestly stated up front).

YOUR ANSWERS NEVER LEAVE YOUR TWO PHONES
There is no server, no account, and no analytics. You pair with a QR code, then send your answers as an encrypted file over AirDrop, Messages, or Mail — sealed so that only the intended iPhone can open it, and verified on arrival. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. Privacy label: Data Not Collected.

CONSENT COMES FIRST
The person who starts the check (the Initiator) chooses up front who will see the report — both of you, or only them. The invited Partner sees that choice, and the honest time commitment, before the first question is asked — and can decline. Whoever ends up reading the pair report, the invited Partner receives their own individual profile summary on their own iPhone after answering — so both of you get something real from the time it takes.

AN HONEST REPORT, NOT A SCORE
The report is not a percentage and not a verdict stamp. It is two profiles, a read on how accurately you each see the other, and a conditional conclusion — including, when the profiles say so, an honest "probably not a fit, and here is why" — with the topics worth talking through either way.

A METHOD, NOT A QUIZ
The comparison method is the author's method of a practicing psychologist, in use with real couples since 2019. Mortise is not medical or psychological diagnosis, not therapy, and not a substitute for a specialist; the report is material for a conversation between the two of you. Some scales are experimental and marked as such while validation continues.

FOR COUPLES AND COFOUNDERS
Couples get modules on closeness and expectations of life together. Business partners get working rhythm, risk and money, disagreement style, and venture values — because "will we work well together?" deserves the same seriousness as "should we get married?"

Free. All of it. No subscription, no unlocks, nothing to cancel.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2 — 2026-07-26

This release makes the read more careful, and adds one honest pause near the end.

A closing re-ask. On the one question whose answer can't easily be walked back, we now quote your own answer back to you, ask it once more in different words, and say plainly what the report will do with it. Confirm it, change it, or leave it unconfirmed — all three are fine, and once you've settled it, it never comes back.

A more careful comparison. The reasoning behind the report was rebuilt to be steadier about where two people genuinely differ, and clearer about the limits of what it can and can't see. Where a read is uncertain, the report now says so instead of overstating it.

An honest fork, stated with respect. When two profiles point in genuinely different directions on something that can't be split down the middle, the report now names that directly and calmly — and still gives you the topics worth talking through — rather than forcing one tidy conclusion.

A fuller conclusion when the fit is workable. When the read comes out positive, the report now explains what's carrying it, not just the headline.

Small wording and polish throughout.

### 1.1 — 2026-07-25

The invited partner now receives their own profile summary after sending — both of you get something real from the 45 minutes.
Names: add optional first names when creating a pair; the report speaks about people, not "partners".
One joint, everywhere: the onboarding and verdict now share the same drawing, with a sharper cut.
Start a check straight from Spotlight or Siri.
Clearer error wording. Small polish throughout.

### 1.0 — 2026-07-16
