## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — AD filled TRASH

*2025-02-02, version 2.189.1*

I signed up for this app hoping to find legitimate scholarships that actually match my profile, but instead, it just floods me with sponsored no-essay scholarships that thousands of other people are also applying for—so basically, a lottery with terrible odds. Even worse, the app constantly pushes ads and promotions from other scholarship companies instead of actually giving me quality matches.

I even paid for a membership, thinking it would improve the experience, but it changed nothing. I’m still getting the same generic, low-chance scholarships shoved in my face, and there’s no real way to filter for ones I actually have a shot at. The whole thing feels like a scam designed to get you to sign up for pointless sweepstakes rather than actually helping students find funding. Don’t waste your money.

### 2/5 — Ruined it with the update

*2025-03-04, version 3.1.0*

Loved it until you changed the app interface now it’s so confusing and you can’t find anything like you want it used to be so simple why did you guys change the app ui it’s ruined it…now you can’t even see how many you applied for easily or anything

### 2/5 — Lies

*2024-07-01*

So far it seemed good, but then something not cool happened. I was pushing a button for financial aid for a college, then all of a sudden it drafted this whole email that I didn’t even write, at all (which is a huge no-go, as these are good colleges, and I feel they could tell in the present or future that they aren’t from me). Anyways, not my main point, I skim through the email, and it mentions my parents struggling to afford our cost of living????!!! I never selected an option like that, because that’s not at all true. I also have a learning disability (ADHD), and in the email, it’s just says that “as a student with a disability, I may face unanticipated costs associated with life on campus,” they frame it like I have a PHYSICAL disability- which is a lie. I have many chronic illnesses, but it don’t have a physical disability recognized by the state, and I didn’t mention anything about any illnesses besides ADHD.

the finding scholarships part seems fine, seems legit, but I also haven’t gone into them too much because i’m class of 25, so they might be just as iffy.

proceed with caution, and MAKE SURE, to read over those autogenerated emails. of anything, please write your own emails and essays, you can use an example/base, but don’t have some app do it for you.

**Developer response:** We're very sorry that the letter you received didn't fully reflect your experience. We always think of the content we create for our students as a starting point, not the final version, and absolutely encourage people to further personalize it.

We also review our scholarship database weekly, vetting each scholarship for legitimacy and accuracy.

If you have any other concerns, we'd love to chat with you! Please email us at support@mos.com

### 2/5 — Not worth the money. Use a free AI instead.

*2024-05-15*

Not too thrilled with this service honestly. At first it was exciting to be working with a financial aid advisor. What I wasn’t too thrilled about was their blatant use of AI, especially when all the basic free ChatGPT does the EXACT same thing. My advisor sent me a letter to send to my financial aid office. What tipped me off to her blatant use of AI is when the letter started with “Grand Rising” but she couldn’t be bothered to change it before sending it to me. The service isn’t horribly expensive, but you’d be better off saving your money and just searching for scholarships through a 100% website. This service was not worth the price or almost getting in trouble with my school for submitting an AI generated email.

**Developer response:** Hi there, we're very sorry about the confusion and especially that you haven't been satisfied with your premium experience. We fully understand the expectation for a real human interaction in which our premium service revolves around. Your advisor Eve used "Grand rising" because your school's financial aid office had used that phrase, and Eve felt matching their tone would be appreciated by the aid office.

Our advisors have a lot of experience negotiating with schools, and that experience—with these kind of personal touches—can help us get you money. We sincerely hope you'll continue to work with us and that you'll be successful in getting more aid.

### 2/5 — very unhelpful support…

*2021-11-18, version 1.6.2*

So, I signed up for Mos when it was still in the middle of being launched and I was super excited to see how this would work as I am a college freshman. I signed up for it on my 18th birthday at midnight, submitted my information, and waited. But they’re telling me that I can’t open an account officially “based on my info” and “for security reasons”, they can’t tell me why. You can’t re-apply since it’s based on your phone number. I’m sure the app is fine, but signing up for it as a new 18-year-old doesn’t work. Support in regards to re-application is not helpful whatsoever.

### 3/5 — In app criteria doesn't match the site/my account information

*2025-04-23*

This app is the best of every scholarship app that I've tried- it's easy to navigate, the questionnaires aren't overwhelming, and it's incredibly inclusive and reliable. However, I can't rate it higher than a three: I wish I wouldn't receive scholarship recommendations in my feed that are only eligible for races other than my own, individuals who live in areas other than my own, etc. When making my account, I answered to be Caucasian and in Oklahoma. It's frustrating that, one, many of the in-app descriptions don't mention that criteria, and two, that half of my scholarships are BIPOC or New York only. I save scholarships for to-do in bulk, then filter and apply after. Going to the website and getting excited for a seemingly perfect scholarship opportunity just to find out I don't qualify for it (because of race, location, age or other) is just disappointing. I wish Mos took the information I was asked into account. I feel like I'm wasting time and energy.
I'd love to see a change, then it would 100% percent be a five in my book.

### 3/5 — False Advertising

*2025-02-04, version 2.191.0*

I have had this app for two years and have applied for over $80,000 in scholarships and have not received a dime. While I understand I won’t get every scholarship, it is frustrating and skeptical to not get even a single one. You are better off finding local scholarships or ones through your school. My second issue is that the app is unable to filter scholarships correctly for my demographics, I am constantly being shown scholarships that I am not eligible for. Overall, this is a great app if you are looking to waste your time.

### 3/5 — Great app, but a bit confused

*2024-07-18*

I was loving the app at first and how it made applying to scholarships easy and the fact it makes easier for you to write essays. However, I got an email back from one of the scholarship companies that I applied to using Mos and they rejected my application because they detected AI in my application. I wrote my own words and used Mos to pre-write the essay (because that’s an obvious feature that the app offers). I didn’t even know that would be a problem because if that was the case, I would’ve never used Mos in the first place. How can it be a feature the app itself offers, but it still won’t be allowed by some companies because of “AI” detection. Mos is using all the things I put in my profile and my own words in the draft essay to formulate the essay itself. What even is the point of that feature if it can get your essay rejected by companies?

**Developer response:** We're very sorry about your experience applying to this scholarship. By incorporating your input, background, and edits, we try to help you write essays authentic to you. We're extremely sorry that didn't happen in your case, and will review our essay tool to make sure this doesn't happen for any students in the future.

### 3/5 — good but could use improvement

*2024-03-05*

I really like the idea of simplifying scholarship search. The platform is easy to use and gives good results and sort them by due date. However there are some things I think they could improve on. Firstly, more questions on the match survey such as extracurriculars, awards, etc. Second, more accurate matches. sometimes mos gives me “matches” that are not applicable to me such as scholarships open only for people from a state or county where I don’t live, even though I entered my address on their matching survey. Third, the estimated time for applications is often very wrong. a scholarship that requires essay, transcript, rec letters, forms, etc will say 5-15 min on mos I love the time estimate feature but its useless if it’s inaccurate. Lastly it would be nice to save and sort scholarships into custom folders. like ones I may want to apply for next year, or ones I want to share with others.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for your review, it's super helpful and our team is looking into your feedback:
- 1. That's a great point. We keep trying to improve our matching. Since some of those info are very "broad" (eg: there are tons of different extracurriculars, or awards), we're not able to match on those criteria yet. But we keep getting better and better and should get there soon!
- 2. We've noticed this matching issue about local county scholarships, and it's being fixed as we speak!
- 3. We keep improving the precision of application requirements, and are reviewing every scholarships one by one. We're actually launching a new feature to help students apply to scholarships, and it'll help us get more precise for the time estimates - stay tuned :)
- 4. That's a great idea and has been passed along to our product team

### 4/5 — Just Downloaded the App
