The TALKABOUT T8xx series allow you to share and track locations with your travel companions. No cell service, no problem. Just download this app, connect your smartphone via Bluetooth and you now have the ability to locate a friend’s campsite, share your current location and send messages - all while exploring off-grid. HOW IT WORKS

The T8xx series two-way radio work just like every other radio by sending information using radio frequencies to keep you connected while off-grid. The secret to the T8xx series is once your smartphone is connected to your radio over Bluetooth, the TALKABOUT smartphone app enables communication options beyond push-to-talk. The TALKABOUT app uses the T8xx series as modem to talk, send messages, locations and more over the radio frequencies to your fellow T8xx series users. With enhanced communication and more information you enjoy unrivaled connectivity for peace of mind off the cellular grid.

This app was updated in June 2026 and requires an ‘account update’ that you can’t complete as the MFA txt code is never sent to your phone. So it’s worse than useless

In the initial agreements, oops, lots of spelling errors in the help too.

Very buggy when adding other radio users. Almost impossible to add using their ID.

Offline maps limit is ridiculously small. Let's you select an area with it being too large too.

Please fix the map download.

The offline map file size is way too restricted. Even the upper circle of the Yellowstone map already exceeds the limit, which makes it really hard to keep track of my friends during the trip.

Get rid of ridiculous 6000 tile limit! Can’t even download a day hike worth of satellite+street size map! My iPhone has plenty of space and this app imposes an artificial limit on how many tiles you can download!

Idk I got the app, it paired quick and easy with my radio, got my wife’s phone and paired hers in like 5 seconds and added her profile to mine and sent messages, all within like 2 minutes of unboxing. The app is clean and smooth, responsive, not buggy, and easy to comprehend. The map seems nice haven’t really used but it overall seems like a well rounded simple app and it pairs great with the obviously great walkie talkies? Again I’m throughly confused by the low star reviews, maybe they were for older versions or something.
