### 2/5 — To limited offline map size

*2025-08-22, version 2.2.4*

The offline map file size is way too restricted. Even the upper circle of the Yellowstone map already exceeds the limit, which makes it really hard to keep track of my friends during the trip.

### 2/5 — Map screen blank

*2024-08-20, version 2.1.1*

There are no maps on-line. Also could not download anything for off line use. The map screen is just a black canvas. Old school gps used to be this way and we made it work but that was 20 years ago. Get it together Motorola.

### 1/5 — Believe the 1-star reviews

*2024-06-02, version 2.1.1*

Maps haven’t worked for a long time. I understand a small downtime for updates but at this point, Motorola is lying and cheating their customers.

### 1/5 — Bluetooth Audio Accessory - Major Flaws

*2024-05-23, version 2.1.1*

I bought this with the intent to connect to my iPhone and use my Bluetooth headset for communication. For reference it’s a Sena 50C motorcycle helmet headset. It has speakers and a microphone that work fine in every other app, however it will not work in this app. Because of that, I cannot use VOX and will have to push a button and talk into the walkie-talkie mic.
However, that’s not even the worst part!
The worst part is that the app stops sending audio to your Bluetooth device if the app is not main and open. That means no Apple or other external maps.
Nearly as tragic is that the app overtakes all other audio applications so you cannot use music and voice at the same time. Probably returning the T802s I bought on Amazon because of this.

### 1/5 — Why do I need an account to use offline maps?

*2024-05-16, version 2.1.1*

There’s nothing that tells you that you should create an account to get a full feature set and then after you’re done with setup you realize you can’t use offline maps… Jank.

### 1/5 — Everything about this app is garbage!

*2024-05-13, version 2.1.1*

Everything about the application, and the T800 Series Motorola radio are garbage, including the customer service.

The application is and has been nothing but half baked builds, never has it been useable without a ton of bugs that Motorola never cared to fix. All about profit and don’t give a *** about quality.

### 1/5 — Download map functionality completely inoperable

*2024-04-10, version 2.1.1*

It is impossible to download a map in the app for use offline, so that you can send your GPS coordinates to the other user (as advertised).

If it allows you to do it at all, it’s such a tiny map area that it’s useless. Support had me uninstall and reinstall the app. It worked once and then went straight back to the way it was before.

This does NOT deliver on its promise, or justify the price of the radios.

### 1/5 — Maps are useless

*2024-04-03, version 2.1.1*

I spent the past 8 months talking with the customer service team trying to get the offline maps to work. They just “resolved my case” because they know the problem is not something they can address.

Let me save you time - Stop trying to download offline maps because it’s a waste of time. Don’t get these radios based on the ability to locate your partner.

### 1/5 — Why do they need phone number?!

*2024-03-30, version 2.1.1*

There is absolutely zero legitimate reason this app needs you to make an account, phone number, and "activate". Completely eliminates any trust in it as an off-grid app because it could just decide at any time to "log you out" and render it inoperable.

### 1/5 — Will not pair with iPhone

*2024-03-02, version 2.1.1*

T803 failed to pair with iPhone

### 1/5 — Map not working

*2024-02-23, version 2.1.1*

So, the difference between this walkie talkie and the others is the Bluetooth to have access to the maps and text. The maps simply don’t work, online offline, nothing seems to work…
That was the feature I wanted, making this walkie talkie not working for my needs.

### 1/5 — No maps

*2023-03-05, version 1.1.1*

Just bought 4 of these for an upcoming trip. Huge disappointment that the map download does not work. Just get a spinning gear. That is the main value add of this type of app and the T800 series. Probably better to get fully waterproof radios than waste your time trying to get this app to work.

### 1/5 — Maps don’t work at all

*2023-03-02, version 1.1.1*

On both the iPhone app and running the app on Mac, maps won’t load in the slightest with a high speed Wi-Fi connection. The loading bar just keeps spinning and spinning. This is the primary reason I bought these radios and it’s false advertising to claim offline maps as a feature of the radio/app when it obviously doesn’t work.

### 1/5 — Refuse to update software

*2023-02-19, version 1.1.1*

Despite many interactions with their software team, there’s a refusal to update for iOS 16.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Non-functional upgrade

*2026-06-15, version 2.2.5*

This app was updated in June 2026 and requires an ‘account update’ that you can’t complete as the MFA txt code is never sent to your phone. So it’s worse than useless

### 1/5 — Bluetooth can’t pair at all. Must use app for pairing.

*2025-11-18, version 2.2.4*

With current IOS and new phone their app doesn’t want to pair. Tried two different devices. My guess is no one looks at bugs.

### 1/5 — Offline Maps feature is a joke!

*2025-08-03, version 2.2.4*

Get rid of ridiculous 6000 tile limit! Can’t even download a day hike worth of satellite+street size map! My iPhone has plenty of space and this app imposes an artificial limit on how many tiles you can download!

### 1/5 — No Help!

*2025-06-19, version 2.2.3*

Can’t even login. No access of directions. A real shoddy app!

### 1/5 — Account creation doesn’t work and the email for support gets bounced back as undeliverable

*2025-06-18, version 2.2.3*

When I talked to support they said uninstall and reinstall then hung up. That didn’t work either.

### 1/5 — Can’t create account

*2025-05-30, version 2.2.3*

Like other reviews say. As of now you can’t use the app which was a big reason I bought the device.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2024-12-29, version 2.2.1*

Cannot even create an account. Receiving “request failed” notice but no reason as to why.

### 1/5 — Unusable app

*2024-08-04, version 2.1.1*

I bought the T803’s to use with this app. Finally got the offline maps downloaded l, members added and location points saved. A few hours later I opened the app only to discover everything was deleted. I added everything back in and downloaded offline maps again. Hours later, everything was deleted again. Tried it on another phone and did the same thing. Seriously, what is Motorola thinking here? It’s August of 2024 and the app hasn’t been updated since last year. Also, the T803’s we could barely get a mile out of them on a straight road line of sight. Just absolute junk.

### 1/5 — Beware

*2024-07-04, version 2.1.1*

Bought 4 and was unable to even download a map let alone use it to navigate or communicate. Could not do this at home let alone in the field. Concept is very cool but does not appear to perform and will be returning the devices.

### 1/5 — I can't created an account

*2024-07-01, version 2.1.1*

I get an error message that does not allow to create account.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — App works great! Not sure about bad rating.

*2025-09-13, version 2.2.4*

I tried this with my brother in preparation of a cruise ship. After a little trouble pairing, the app works fantastically! I hope they continue to develop it.

### 5/5 — Confused by the low rating

*2025-08-02, version 2.2.4*

Idk I got the app, it paired quick and easy with my radio, got my wife’s phone and paired hers in like 5 seconds and added her profile to mine and sent messages, all within like 2 minutes of unboxing. The app is clean and smooth, responsive, not buggy, and easy to comprehend. The map seems nice haven’t really used but it overall seems like a well rounded simple app and it pairs great with the obviously great walkie talkies? Again I’m throughly confused by the low star reviews, maybe they were for older versions or something.

### 5/5 — App has been improved over the years

*2022-12-04, version 1.1.1*

Some reviews talked about the slow map downloading which has seemed to be fixed, my offline maps were downloaded pretty fast. The pairing was also super fast. Couldn’t wait to test this in the wild.

### 5/5 — Pairing

*2021-04-09, version 1.0.8*

If you’re trying to pair remember to turn on bluetooth through the radio settings

### 5/5 — Exactly what you expected

*2020-09-20, version 1.0.8*

People continue to say they are unable to pair the two way radio, though it connected instantaneously. Controls are able to be changed very quickly through the app, and there are some other fun extra features as well. Speaking this is the first if not one of the first radios to be able to have this feature, it’s really good.

### 4/5 — Rough around the edges

*2026-03-04*

I'v read and accept.

In the initial agreements, oops, lots of spelling errors in the help too.

Very buggy when adding other radio users. Almost impossible to add using their ID.

Offline maps limit is ridiculously small. Let's you select an area with it being too large too.

### 4/5 — Great features but needs more flexibility and functions.

*2020-06-12, version 1.0.8*

1) In Shout all 4 predefined messages should be editable.
2) In Shout My Tracks should be available.
3) In Shout Offline Maps should be available.
4) In Shout you should be able to change the ID Name to Profile Name.
5) Inability to turn off Dual Watch in Radio Settings.
6) In Maps when saving Pins, GPS coordinates should be automatically part of the label.
7) In Shout you should be able to individual delete messages. Not just the whole conversation.

### 3/5 — Rough around the edges

*2026-03-07, version 2.2.4*

I'v read and accept.

Please fix the map download.

### 3/5 — Taco Bell app not working on my iPhone

*2022-12-25, version 1.1.1*

I recently purchased the Talkabout Motorola 800 and I downloaded the app Talkabout on my iPhone running 16.2 and unfortunately when I try to I said license agreement is disabled can somebody give me tips how can I put this app to work on my iPhone so that I would be able to pair the Bluetooth

### 3/5 — Not great but could be.

*2021-03-07, version 1.0.8*

First, the good: pairing is easy and the app is pretty self explanatory. I love that that settings for the radio can be configured from the app and then populated to other radios via the "leader/member" feature.
I tested the messaging features using two iPhones and two radios and it works pretty well.

Now the bad: the app will allow you to attach a selfie or chosen avatar to your profile just like any other chat/messaging app and you can choose your own profile name...but that data doesn't seem to go anywhere. The natural assumption would be that your avatar and name would automatically propagate to other members in your group if your phone has data (cellular/wifi, etc) when you add them but none of that happens. You still have to manually enter their names when adding members to your group, and take photos (or choose them from your photo stream). So what's the point of adding your own photo to your profile? Nothing, it seems.

Also, the downloading of offline maps is terribly slow, even when connected to wifi. I'll concede that "beggars can't be choosers," and [so far] Motorola seems to be offering these maps for free where other apps might require a subscription fee. But it is surprisingly slow.

I'll say that the pros outweigh the cons but I hope Motorola will continue to support and develop this app because it still needs some work.
