After issues with the previous version of the app not connecting to wifi the team contacted me to say the issues had been fixed. The app has been faultless since I reinstalled it. So a big thumbs up to the app team for sorting it out and going the extra mile to contact me to say they had fixed the issues I had. Brings many sources of info together in one easy to use app. Worth every penny. ### 5/5 — Excellent app *2015-12-06* Essential app for anyone heading uphill in the winter, or at any time. Great, clean and simple, informative, easy to use, full of good advice but not overly geeky. Perhaps, it would be also good to show coordinates of the summits and, ideally, a link to an online map (plenty of free ones these days) especially for those hills which share names with others. The links to eg SAIS (avalanche warnings) are very handy. ### 5/5 — Excellent *2015-11-03* I'm quite a weather geek, well you have to be living in the north of England, and I have a whole array of weather applications on my smartphone, some of them paid for and others free. But I have to say that I'm very happy with purchasing this app because I think it gives me something none of the other apps provide, namely forecasts focused on mountain regions, which to me as an outdoor type is crucial. It's one thing being caught short on the way to the supermarket without your umbrella but quite another out in the wilderness at altitude. Early days yet but I'm very happy with my purchase. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Useless for planning trips unless you subscribe *2026-03-20* In the free version you only get the current day’s forecast. If you want to plan ahead you’re better off using the UK MWIS website. **Developer response:** Hi, The Pro Subscription provides much more detailed information, including: - 5-day forecasts for 37 mountain regions and over 11,500 hills and mountain summits at or above 1000 ft throughout the UK, Ireland and the Isle of Man. - Forecasts include daily summaries, detailed 3-hourly periods and elevation breakdowns with key mountain information: freezing level, high/low level temperatures, wind speed/direction, gusts, visibility, hill cloud, precipitation probability, UV, and mountain hazards. MWIS is a useful source for weather forecasts and the Mountain Weather UK App does provide links to all the MWIS reports. However the MWIS reports only provide a brief 3 day regional synopsis and do not cover many mountain and upland areas or provide any detailed mountain summit forecasts The Pro Subscription is only £9.99/yr, which is very good value for the features it provides. The Subscription also goes towards the on going costs of providing this service. Also the App does not include any Ads which both MWIS and the Met Office now have. I hope this helps to give you more information on the benefits the Mountain Weather UK App Pro Subscription provides. ### 1/5 — Not working correctly *2021-03-13* Was great to begin with but no longer works properly hasn’t had and updates to fix the issues. Since this is a pay-for app I wouldn’t recommend just use the website for free **Developer response:** Hi, apologies for the lack of updates. v2 has now been released which is a major update with many new features and a new look and faster loading of data from a brand new data server. You’ll find that there is a lot more available in the App than you will find on the Met Office website, including detailed text summaries for both mountain region and summit forecasts and elevation breakdowns for every summit. You’ll also find weather station observations and synoptic forecast maps amongst the features available. If you previously purchased v1 then you will automatically get all of the Pro features. Please can you take another look at v2 and if possible update this review. Thanks ### 1/5 — not very good *2017-10-11* bought this app with bein a keen wk end mountain walker,, it only covers the hills pre programmed into the app,, it doesnt cover even 1% of the hills in each of the given areas,, it has a search option but when i try to search for any other hill that isnt pre programmed it crashes shuts down and returns to the home screen,, gave it 1 star cos there isnt an option to give it 0,, **Developer response:** Hi, UPDATE: Hi, I have just released v2 of the Mountain Weather UK App. I am also currently working on an update to include every single hill in the UK over 1000ft. Kind Regards, Jonathan Yates Mountain Weather UK | Developer Response - May 26, 2018 I'm sorry to hear you were disappointed with the Mountain Weather UK app. The app covers all the mountain areas in the UK and all mountains in those areas (i.e. Hills over 2000 ft). All the mountain forecasts are provided by the met office mountain weather service which is very comprehensive. I would like to hear of which mountains you were unable to get a forecast for and for which mountain areas. Also please could you provide me with more details on the app crashing when you try to search for a mountain. I will try to do all I can to help resolve these issues. Yes it’s a ‘mountain forecast’ app but I think most mountain walkers also walk up hills less than 2000m. What about an app for both?! Seems a bit daft not to really. Would give it 4/5 stars if lower ranges were included in an update. (I notice that the Peak District, and I’m sure tiger areas, does include peaks less than 2000m. Thank you. ### 4/5 — Good add-free app for UK mountain weather *2019-11-21, version 1.5.9* Good app but still does not show the separate MWIS forecast for the Yorkshire Dales and North Pennines. Thanks. ### 4/5 — App review *2015-11-13* Downloaded this today as its not much more than a pint of lager - so not much to loose. Initial view is that it is very user friendly and the visuals are very good. I like the direct link to MWIS and Avalanche Reports - would be good if a link could be provided to Met Office App I have on my iphone. I will monitor the apps forecasts with other providers over the coming months and also look at Trip Reports by fellow Hillwalkers who always comment on weather conditions. First impression is that it is worth the price - as long as the forecasts etc are accurate - only time will tell. ### 5/5 — The best *2026-08-06* No other app has such good coverage for the British Isles hills and mountains. The inclusion of over 11,000 odd hills with Met Office derived data with a high quality layout brings this V2 app into becoming an essential app for many more outdoor users. Congrats on a first class product! ### 5/5 — The best App for mountaineers *2026-02-28* This is the one App I am using at the moment for planning my trips into the Scottish Highlands. The reason is that it is simply so much better than all the rest. It’s easy to use, the displays are uncluttered and give you all the information you want. The best feature is that it can give you all the relevant information for different altitudes in an instant. Very useful when you’re at the bottom of a 300m snow gully wondering what it’s going to be like at the top! ## Most praised reviews (7 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Good ad-free app for UK mountain weather *2026-02-24* Very useful app which now has the separate MWIS forecasts for all MWIS areas together with forecasting for additional mountain areas like the North Pennines and Northumberland etc. not included in MWIS or Met Office. V2 has much improved graphics and is easy to use and presents a lot of information very clearly. Thank you. ### 5/5 — A solid mountain weather app *2026-02-22* This app has been keeping me safe on British mountains for years. Dedicated forecasts for major summits and links to MWIS and SAIS, for me, make this the most useful and easiest to use and interpret forecasting apps there is. The new design is also great. ### 5/5 — Essential *2026-02-21, version 2.0.2* I’ve used this app since it launched and it has been my go to resource for planning trips to the hills. It hadn’t been updated in years but apart from a couple of minor niggles it still worked fine and I didn’t expect any changes. It was a pleasant surprise, therefore, when I saw the version 2 update. At the same time, it caused some trepidation. A number of updates in recent years have pretty much ruined some of my favourite apps (BBC News, Met Office). I needn’t have worried. V2 of MWUK is an all too rare example of an update that improves on everything that made the original so great. The refreshed look is clean and stylish. Most importantly, the redesigned summit forecast displays everything you need to see, so you can take it all in at a glance without having to scroll and scroll (Met Office take note). Swiping left lets you see an hourly breakdown and a great new feature allows you to tap on any hour to see forecasts for different altitudes. All in all, a great app made even better. If you’re a hillwalker or mountaineer, this is essential. ### 5/5 — Excellent App *2026-02-21* I use to use V1 and thought it was very good an d an useful too. I was involved in testing V2 and used it in earnest two weeks ago whilst up in the Cairngorms. Very useful application for me. Im a hike and fly pilot, flying paragliders and speedwings. App helps me planning safe and successful hike and fly trips providing a lot of useful information. Last decision to fly or not to fly is entirely up to me but with a tool like mvis app a chance of disappointment with a weather conditions at the summit is reduced to the reasonable level.
