### 2/5 — Good concept, poor application

*2026-05-03*

I paid for a 1 year subscription after reading reviews but unfortunately I’ve had nothing but issues with the app. It is very glitchy and I’ve been trying to progress but it literally gives me the same workout every day! I’ve completed this workout like 4 times now and for some reason there’s no “progression” as it advertises. This app could be amazing if it worked as advertised. But now I’m just out $150 for an app that doesn’t function as promised. I give it 2 stars only because it does have huge potential to be a great app. I’ve deleted and reinstalled it for the 3rd time now so here’s hoping it works since I purchased it specifically so I didn’t have to think of what exercises to do next and the thought of it progressing at my fitness level is the whole reason I bought off on it.

**Developer response:** Hi, thank you for taking the time to share this — and we’re really sorry for the experience.
We completely understand how frustrating this must be, especially after investing in a full year and expecting the app to guide and progress your training automatically. What you’re describing (repeated workouts and lack of progression) isn’t how the app is supposed to behave.

We’re currently addressing the issues from the latest update, and fixes have already been released, with more improvements rolling out shortly.

Please reach out to us at hello@themovementathlete.com — we’d really like to look into your account, restore proper progression, and make this right for you.

### 2/5 — New format has too many glitches.

*2026-04-22, version 1.70.67*

Recently, Movement Athlete updated their app and it functions much worse than before. 1) there is no sound anymore so I have to look at the phone to know when time expires. 2) my workout input is no longer reflected in my next set. 3) all my previous progress was lost with the new formatting. 4) app struggles to receive input-very glitchy. 5) workouts timeout on their own instead of me manually moving to the next workout. 6) everything is glitchy!!!!

### 3/5 — It’s ok

*2026-04-21, version 1.70.67*

It’s not bad, the workouts are decent but the software is very difficult to maneuver. Making changes are often confusing if possible without resetting everything.

### 4/5 — Good

*2025-10-16, version 1.70.62*

Good app. Has helped develop my strength. Algo sometimes doesn’t give full 1hr workouts unless I add additional skills.

### 4/5 — Unique and Nice Platform

*2025-03-25, version 1.70.58*

I love the concept of the app and it’s great, but some components are difficult to recreate without real human interaction.

The app is designed to build as you advance so it works at your pace and level. You can pick and choose which moves to master.

There are some components I can imagine are just hard to get just right without a human. I feel like some workouts I pick a lot of pull-based moves (for example) and by the end can barely complete a few in a row. It kicks back my progression on that move. Then I may complete a shorter workout so I can complete all the moves and it pushes me
Forward.
The computer can’t critically think in the same way as a human - but overall well done and I’m enjoying the app.

### 4/5 — Grat Overall

*2024-12-05, version 1.70.54*

Nice for flexible Training. I especially thanks the slow progressions with many small steps are nice. -1 Star for the penetrant advertising even when when paid.

### 4/5 — No option of money back or prorate

*2024-12-03, version 1.70.54*

I skip one star because They do not prorate if you upgrade the subscription. They will not refund or increasing the subscription. Other than that this the app and support is great. They respond proactively.

### 5/5 — very, very intuitive

*2024-11-18, version 1.70.54*

very much love that it’s responsive to how well/bad i do on a given workout/set, and customizes it going forward not only for that workout, but for all future workouts

### 5/5 — Excelente!

*2024-11-12*

### 5/5 — Comprehensive and Engaging

*2024-10-15*

I was searching for an app to help me stay focused on bodyweight exercises that could improve my mobility and functional strength, ideally reduce my risk of injury in other forms of exercising I do (trail running largely), but work with my uneven schedule (and motivation) - I think this is the app for me.

I’ve been pleased with how thorough the app is, how engaged I’ve been, the diversity of ways to build on my progress (stretching, one-off focused or continuing the program they’ve laid out) and ability to get up to speed on the workouts I’m not familiar with.

If that resonates with you I’d encourage you to give it a try. I’ve also been impressed with their customer service when I hit a hurdle or had a question about the program. Hoping to keep this going for months (or even years) to come.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your thoughtful review! We're so glad to hear that the app is meeting your needs for mobility, functional strength, and flexibility with your schedule. It’s amazing to see how engaged and motivated you’ve been, and we’re thrilled the program’s thoroughness and variety are helping you reach your goals. 💪 We're especially happy to hear our customer service has made a positive impact. Thanks for recommending us and being part of the TMA community—we’re here to support you every step of the way for as long as you need! 🙌😊

### 5/5 — Great stuff

*2024-10-10, version 1.70.51*

App works well and I don’t feel destroyed and achy after this is the kind of training I can see longevity in

### 4/5 — Great app but non existent support

*2024-10-01, version 1.70.51*

This is a really great app. Its interesting and fun and pushes you. The only issue is if you have a question or concern, support is nonexistent.

### 5/5 — Excellent programming

*2024-09-29*

This app is perfect. I have been using this app as my only calisthenics program for several months now and I am making great progress in skills and strength. It has all I need, and works great when home and traveling, with or without equipment. I like this app and it’s programming so much, I made the investment and paid for lifetime access.

**Developer response:** Wow — thank you so much for the support and for trusting us with your training journey 🙌
Hearing that TMA has become your go-to program both at home and while traveling means a lot to us. And seriously, thank you for making the leap to Lifetime ❤️ We’re committed to continuing to improve the app and help you keep progressing in strength and skills for years to come. 💪

### 4/5 — Good App

*2024-09-20, version 1.70.51*

It would be a great app but there is a fault with the equipment list that you can set up to limit exercise to the equipment you own. So without this you have to either make up alternative exercises for the ones where you don’t have the necessary equipment or skip past them, which shortens the workout. Maybe the developer could consider adding a button to generate an alternative exercise.

I really like the varied warm up and cooldown exercises that I would previously have skipped, because in my middling age I’m much more prone to injury.

I appreciate the slider after each workout where you can record how intense you found the exercise and this automatically moderates the number of future reps in the set.

### 4/5 — Very good app, even if ..

*2024-09-05, version 1.70.51*

The progressions are very well done. They push me to the limit every time. The mobility trainings are also extremely useful.

However the UI is not optimal. It is hard to track progression over time and get a good picture of how fast / slow I progress.

Sometime it takes a while for the demo videos to download and play.

The exercises done when I work on a specific muscle are not taken into account for a skill progression

### 4/5 — App improvement

*2024-08-18, version 1.70.51*

Great app especially for people looking to get into gymnastic type workout and learning skills. However the do need to improve app flexibility when it comes to managing workout routine. There is not input on how many reps or sets were done, no way to skip an exercise and go back to it, and no history of previous workout of reps and sets.

### 5/5 — The only app you'll ever need!

*2024-08-12, version 1.70.51*

As a newbie, TMA is a big help! I'm truly enjoying my routine because of this app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2026-05-28*

App keeps making me redo the survey every time and zero customer support. None of the progress saves. Useless

**Developer response:** Hi, we’re really sorry for this experience. The app should not ask you to redo the survey every time, and your progress should be saved. Please email us at hello@themovementathlete.com with the email linked to your account so we can check the specific error you’re getting and help fix it directly. We also apologize if support didn’t reach you sooner — we’d like to make this right.

### 1/5 — Bad update

*2026-04-28, version 1.70.69*

Newest update no longer runs properly. Sound doesn’t work for the isometric holds. I’m also seeing that the clock isn’t correct. It will lag and rush so the counting of seconds isn’t even. My workout today even froze the count mid hold.

### 1/5 — Scam app

*2025-09-12, version 1.70.62*

I bought this app due to a recommendation from a YouTube video and as the 7 day trial button did not work thought I’d give the three month subscription option a go. I really wish I hadn’t… missing videos, text formatted so that it can not be read and very generic workouts.

Due to the fact half of the videos didn’t work and some text for exercises couldn’t be read, I reached out to Apple for a refund and was denied. This was a complete waste of time and money.

Don’t be like me, give this app a wide berth.

### 1/5 — Spam emails

*2023-11-20, version 1.70.32*

I deleted the app because it wasn’t that useful and now keep getting spammed with emails. No unsubscribe button or reply to requests.

### 1/5 — Buggy

*2023-10-29, version 1.70.32*

Does not work at all ;( and it’s not like I’m on an old iOS version.

### 1/5 — Free trial doesn’t work through ApplePay

*2023-09-12*

There was a free trial promoted on their app. I went for it and continued via Apple Pay and it charged me upfront. When I reached out to support they told me that they can’t control Apple payments and I needed to contact directly.

I was also told that they encourage users to sign up for their free trial on their website not via Apple Pay as this can happen.

I’m not sure why they offer ApplePay as a method of payment whilst also promoting their free trial if it doesn’t work.

Really poor form.

### 1/5 — Can’t get money back through apple

*2023-08-24, version 1.70.23*

I take part of the blame because I’m sure it was written somewhere, but YOU DO NOT QUALIFY FOR 60 DAYS MONEY BACK IF YOU BUY THROUGH APPLE STORE. Reflects poorly on the app that they don’t make that clearer, I assumed I had those sixty days to decide.

Not a total scam, you do get access to the app out of it. Just be aware

### 1/5 — Scam

*2023-07-06, version 1.70.21*

This is a pure scam , back money guaranteed is not true , I approached them and they refuse to support saying they is a problem with Apple Pay !
In addition the app generate random exercise , like the free version !

### 1/5 — Paid but can’t use

*2022-10-15, version 1.70.5*

App was working well during trial window and as soon I was charged for whole year, the app stoped working. It’s just not loading anymore and no way to connect support through app as I can’t load it. 🤦‍♂️

### 1/5 — Not working after the new update

*2022-10-15, version 1.70.4*

The app stopped working after the most recent update. Rebooting iPhone, deleting and reinstalling the app and updating iOS to 16.0.3 did not help. Such a disappointment. It was supposed to be my workout date and I do not even have access to exercises anymore since the web version refers me back to the app which is not even working!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Raising the bar

*2026-04-10, version 1.70.62*

This app has really challenged me. Lots of new dynamic exercises. I can see and feel results even after the first two weeks.

### 5/5 — Review

*2025-11-21, version 1.70.62*

Nice application

### 5/5 — My Holy Grail

*2025-08-09, version 1.70.62*

I’ve only done 2 workouts- one Monday and one Saturday- and I’ve found what I was looking for!

I was hesitant- I’m basically a 66 year old woman with only intermittent exercise this summer. A beginner. I’d focused on yoga and then moved to focus on flexibility and mobility, but wanted more. Plus so much of what I tried was pretty advanced and I couldn’t do the moves!

Movement Athlete is great for a beginner! And if I can’t complete the time or the reps, there’s no judgment— it starts with what I can do. And it combines calisthenics and strength with flexibility and mobility.

I think I’ve found my holy Grail.

### 5/5 — La mejor aplicación de deporte que he probado

*2025-08-06, version 1.70.58*

Llevo usándola ya un mes y por ahora no le cambiaria absolutamente nada
Un gusto cuando hay buen trabajo detrás de una aplicación

### 5/5 — Awesome App, awesome Team!

*2025-07-10, version 1.70.58*

I had an issue with an accidental subscription renewal due to some confusion with two accounts. I reached out to The Movement Athlete support, and I was honestly blown away by how friendly, fair, and supportive the response was. Leih from the support team handled everything with so much professionalism and kindness – clear communication, quick resolution, and even a generous gesture of goodwill. It’s rare these days to get such genuinely human support – and that alone says a lot about the team behind TMA. Thank you again, Leih – you really made a difference! Highly recommended – not just for the training content, but also for the awesome people behind it. 💪

### 5/5 — Powerlifting to calisthenics-WOW!

*2025-07-04, version 1.70.58*

I’ve been a powerlifter my entire adult life, and started doing calisthenics on a vacation where I had no gym, starting with ring exercises.
Best I’ve ever felt, and at 42 I have the beginnings of a real 6-pack. This app makes progression easy and a lot of fun! Highly highly recommended!

### 5/5 — Funny and versatile

*2025-05-03*

Exercises are well explained through appropriate instructions and tutorials. You can choose the workout based on your equipment and/or skills that you want to learn. Well done!

**Developer response:** Thanks so much! We're glad you're enjoying the clear instructions and personalized workout options. Keep up the awesome work!

### 5/5 — Great app. Brought new excitement to my fitness journey.

*2025-02-16*

I’ve been using this app for over two years. Achieving new skills has brought interest back to my workouts after years of adding weight to the bar with traditional weightlifting. It has enough material to keep me challenged for many more years. In general I have been able to smoothly move through the progressions without injury. Keeping it to two goals on the mission dashboard makes progressing faster and more fun.

I have used the chat with us feature to ask questions about workouts and also to give feedback. I was impressed that I got a reply within a day and the rep had coaching knowledge.

Some progressions have too big of jumps and I had to come up with my own in between progressions. For example tuck planche to advanced tuck planche and lower down tuck front lever to lower down tuck legs extended front lever.

There are some important basic skills that are missing. An L sit progression is the most obvious.

The handstand progressions didn’t work for me. I ended up going to a specialized handstand program with more emphasis on balancing drills and flexibility.

I havent seen major content additions but there are frequent and significant app improvements.
Overall i highly recommend this app. Ive gained strength and skill, kept motivated, and haven’t been injured.

**Developer response:** This kind of long-term experience and insight means so much—thank you for sharing it. We’re thrilled the app has reignited your training and kept you motivated and injury-free over the years! You’re absolutely right—some progressions still need refinement, and adding missing skills like L-sits is on our radar. Your detailed feedback helps us evolve and serve our athletes better. Huge respect for your dedication and progress—here’s to many more milestones ahead!

### 5/5 — Great progression

*2025-01-11, version 1.70.54*

What’s pretty dubious of the progressive workout claim because other apps I’ve used have failed but very surprised and pleased. It sets reasonable progressions and I feel myself getting better. One step closer to getting a muscle up after being stuck at just normal pull ups for years.

### 5/5 — Game changer

*2024-11-27, version 1.70.54*

I have been working with this app now for over 2 years, I have just signed up to lifetime access. It has been a total game changer for me. I turned 40 this year and have struggled with niggles especially in my lower back. I now have no lower back issues and never felt stronger it has changed how I look at exercising. I love the progression side of it as this was something I struggled with before the app. I am looking forward to having this app as my exercise buddy for life.
Well done movement athlete 👍🏻
