What's New in MoviPic

1.4.12

June 12, 2026

■ Improved resolution of extracted frames The "Original Resolution/FPS Import" setting previously applied only to slo-mo videos. It now loads regular videos at their original quality as well, fixing the reduced resolution seen with some videos. Turn it on in Settings (photo library access required). ■ Improved export filenames Filenames now follow the format "MoviPic_recording date_position in video", so frames from the same video sort in timeline order by name — handy for frame-by-frame review and sequential editing.

It works! Very basic design but it does what you want.

A simple app that does exactly what it claims. The developer recently fixed a bug I reported like 10 years ago. Lol, so hopefully that means development has resumed!

I would love if there were more buttons for - and +, like “skip +/-v 5 frames” or something. And if you could long-press the + and - to play the video at 2x speed. And a way to play/pause the video normally.

The - and + button should be much larger and easier to tap with your thumb without requiring such pinpoint precision. They also need to be full square buttons with a distinct color so the eye sees a large hit target. 👌🏼

Apple makes a free book every year on iBooks called Apple Human Interface Guidelines and I cannot recommend it strongly enough. It’s an amazingly simple-written book that’s super easy to read but explain exactly how to decide all these type of UI choices for which elements to use and when. So the app ultimately functions the way iOS users already expect it to even without knowing the app yet. 👍🏼

Response from developer

Thank you for the kind review and the detailed report — you were right about what was happening. This is addressed in version 1.4.12. Please turn on "Original Resolution/FPS Import" in the app's settings. With this on, the app loads the selected video directly from your photo library in its original quality through the Photos framework, instead of the iOS export step that was causing the "Compressing" delay and quality reduction. It requires Photos access, since the app reads the original video file itself. Version 1.4.12 is rolling out in phases, but you can update manually from the App Store right away. Thanks again — reports like yours really help.
