### 2/5 — Looks ok, but won’t allow student sign up

*2025-04-23*

I wanted to try this app as I have heard good things about it, but when trying to sign up for the student trial, it is not accepting my .edu address and states: not a valid JSON and there is no way t contact for help. Don’t offer a student discount and not allow students to obtain it.

### 2/5 — Not worth it

*2023-09-27*

I like the idea of the app, but you can’t do much without paying for an upgraded version. I tried the basic version for the 30 day trial and you really can’t do much with it. It’s pretty much just another news aggregator.

Additionally, the information seemed a little outdated. I live in Pennsylvania. Josh Shapiro is not a state representative anymore. He was elected governor almost a year ago.

**Developer response:** MOXY Basic has a wealth of information, including a robust news feed, your own elected representatives, ballot information, etc. You can also upgrade to Premium or Power during your 30-day trial and still keep trying it for free...give it a shot.

### 5/5 — Very informative and comprehensive

*2022-10-09*

An all-in-one place to learn and stay up to date with politics and government matters.

**Developer response:** Thank you RafaelCH - Glad you're enjoying MOXY and stay tuned for more and more great, tangible info and unique content!

### 5/5 — Incredibly useful!

*2022-09-28*

This is a very interesting tool. Just signed on a few days ago and I really like what I see. The name tho! The word moxie is right up there with moist for cringe factor

**Developer response:** Thank you J. Thompson! Glad you're enjoying MOXY. We coined the name before the hotel chain was out, etc. It's a dual entendre for moxie (the Yiddish term for bold courage) and deMOCraCY - and the idea is that we help our users get the moxie to reclaim their American democracy...hope you like the name better once you understand why...

Stay tuned for more great stuff in future releases...

### 3/5 — And the best way to annoy users is?!!

*2022-09-05*

Forcing users to wait five full seconds for the app to loads while you watch a pointless graphic AND auto play videos at full volume

Bye!

**Developer response:** Hello Gregory F. Miller - thanks for the feedback. We've recently shortened the launch animation, which only happens when you boot the app or login/out. The autoplay videos are muted by default now. Suggest you give it another try - there are so many unique and powerful features that you're missing out on by not returning...hope to see you back onboard soon.

### 5/5 — Important for our times

*2021-08-05*

Started using MOXY recently and I love it. Provides important information for responsible citizens of all political affiliations.

**Developer response:** Thank you Tmk824 - we're glad you're enjoying MOXY and stay tuned for even more powerful features and data in future releases!

### 5/5 — Great News App

*2020-11-24, version 1.5.2*

A reliable, unbiased news source. Excellent.

### 5/5 — Simplicity.

*2020-11-14*

This app finally brings information that has been spread out all into one place. From knowing who are our elected officials in a federal, state, and county level. To articles that are relevant to your political views by being specifically tailored for you. Two thumbs up, and with every update it just gets better. Great for all generations/age groups.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the praise! Please invite your friends to join...

### 5/5 — MOXY

*2020-07-16, version 1.2.0*

I discovered this comprehensive app to be beneficial in exploring today’s news. It’s filled with substance and allows the user to experience a multitude of local, state, national and world resources. The forums feature is informative. In today’s political climate this app is well worth having in your pocket.

**Developer response:** Thank you so much for the praise! Please invite your friends to join...

### 5/5 — Information at your fingertips

*2020-07-14*

I love Moxy. As a responsible citizen it is important to me to be informed of what my representatives (or prospective reps) have produced (legislation) and what they have backed up (or not). I also find super interesting to understand the funding sources as that would likely have weight in the support to the causes I care about.
All of this public information was just hard to get to, Moxy puts it right in my fingertips all in one place.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No free version

*2025-05-29, version 4.8.1*

I didn’t the option for a free version, and it only tells you to pay after putting in all the information. Just charge the user on the App Store so they know and don’t have to retype all their credit card info.

### 1/5 — Won’t verify my residential address

*2024-12-19, version 4.6.0*

App denies my address as a residence. So I don’t get access to my local news which really zaps the purpose.

### 1/5 — Pay to have better access to democracy

*2023-10-03*

This idea is concerning to say the least. While I applaud the creators for trying to bring verified citizens into a bot-free non-anonymous environment, it‘s highly unethical that I have better access to content (and even share content, talking about that „live“ feature) on a democracy platform if I am able to pay.

**Developer response:** No apps are free - you either pay with your eyeballs and wallet or you subscribe. We choose a subscriber-centric approach with option to try the Basic version which has a few ads interspersed but you can also upgrade to Premium and Power free of charge and those do not include our Google Ads option. We also have freedom of speech and of the press, but you can't issue a press release without paying someone a fee...think about it :)

### 1/5 — Probably a data Mining Platform

*2023-01-18*

App looks nice and would be helpful but it’s probably just a data mining platform, App requires your full name and DOB for sign up (ok most things do that’s fine) but also asks for your income, education level, number of kids, what kind of job you have, your political affiliation, religious identity, and ADDRESS (will come back to this) and a bit more, also requires a verified email/Phone number to “contribute to the app” not sure what that means but you won’t let you block other uses without it but ALSO even once you do that it requires you to let it grab your current GPS location to “contribute” but i’m not contributing by just blocking someone on my own account and best yet you can like posts without GPS…

if the app was truly for Democracy they would understand there are a lot of people who want your political data and wouldn’t require it to be entered to use the app, i understand they can tailor the app more too you if you do put it in so asking is fine but requiring it isn’t and MOST OF ALL requiring a GPS location (even after putting an address in) is down right stupid. cool concept but from a data privacy perspective total failure.

**Developer response:** Rylan1230 - this is not a data mining operation. We discourage anonymous onboards to mitigate violation of community rules and ask for real names. Demographic info is optional, as clearly stated in the onboarding page where it appears. Address is used to assign your elected representatives, ballots, election info and localized news plus facilitates networking with local peers. Email verification is required as we don't allow bogus/fake onboards. Blocking users is in fact permitted, take a look. GPS address verification is required once and any user posting content (text/images/video) must have both email and address verified first, this helps keep bad actors at bay. We use the demographic data (which is optional) to try and ensure a balance of users are on the platform, since we encourage all parties (or no party) to join.

We appreciate you taking the time to write a review, but doing so is a waste of time (and a disservice) when a review if full of inaccuracies. Please give it another try.

### 1/5 — Never mind

*2022-12-21, version 2.9.1*

Never mind

### 1/5 — Im so disapointed

*2022-11-09, version 2.7.2*

I signed up i want a map of the election results ? Nothing . So disappinting 😡. And they already seem bias ! Save your political garbage propaganda let me think for myself ! Just stick to the facts , not your opinion on the facts !

### 1/5 — No one is here …

*2022-09-10, version 2.5.0*

I got this hoping for some interaction - the first 25 posts had ONE comment and that was from Moxy - no one is using this

### 1/5 — Very disappointing

*2022-07-21, version 2.3.0*

Why not make this why why be a gate keeper

### 1/5 — Too much Data Required to Engage with already accessible info

*2022-07-18, version 2.2.2*

So to preface, I found this app because it was advertised on VOX, but the promo code doesn’t work with the app at all ?

The main reason I review so low though is that I am honestly very perturbed by the amount of data I needed to fill in in order to use the functionalities in the app. It wasn’t clear until it was too late for me, so that’s why I’m writing this.
It requires a lot of personal information, down to my home address - even though I’m not buying anything. It won’t let me do just about anything without giving them that information. I even tried providing my old apartments address down, which I know in fact is a residential address, and the app tells me it’s not a residency?? So even if I wanted to give this app my information, it wouldn’t accept it apparently
Even more concerning, the app doesn’t even let you contact support without providing all of that information.

I find it very difficult to believe that this app is acting in good faith as it allegedly claims when it, I assume (can’t find a public company policy statement on data use), profits from selling the extensive and personal information it requires of people who sign up. Most of said information seems almost entirely unnecessary for the app to provide the content it does

Why do I not want to give this app my address you might ask? Because I am positive they’re going to sell that information to whomever is interested in harassing me!

The way I heard VOX Media describe this before I downloaded was: “we help people find and get in contact with their representatives” - the government already does this! Just go to the senate’s website, or Google “representatives by address” , and there are a litany of search tools, even government websites, that don’t require you to fork over any of your private information for this very public information

It honestly could be the case that this app policy is that it “doesn’t sell the information” (I couldn’t find anything on their website about data practices), but given the minutia of the the information and the context it’s being asked for in, I really do find it hard to believe this data isn’t being sold. I also think that type of data aggregation is harmful, and if MOXY is compiling it then a brief recent history of similar practices from other Apps shows it’s inevitable that data will be misused is some context.

I regret filling out an account, and I dread the targeted mail I’m likely to receive. Maybe the developer can point me at poignant information that they’re not selling users data, but I stand by my assessment above.

If someone is reading this is looking for the type of information this app provides, I personally recommend Googling “representatives by address” or “representatives by [CITY, STATE]”
, or using any number of search tools that allow you to provide cross streets near, but not exactly next to, your home

Chances are that in addition to the tools provided by the US government, your representative is already quite eager to hear from you! Don’t let this review discourage you from contacting your representatives

### 1/5 — What is the point?

*2022-07-17, version 2.2.2*

This app doesn’t do anything to truly empower citizens. I don’t see any representatives using it, and all the posts are from the same few people.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Vision of founding fathers

*2026-06-09*

This app should be subsidized by the government! Not only does it break down the walls that so often separate the goverment and the governed by proving total and complete transparency, it is instrumental in getting folks involved with their communities. This app is by the people and for the people !

### 5/5 — Simplicity.

*2026-03-07*

This app finally brings information that has been spread out all into one place. From knowing who are our elected officials in a federal, state, and county level. To articles that are relevant to your political views by being specifically tailored for you. Two thumbs up, and with every update it just gets better. Great for all generations/age groups.

### 5/5 — Awesome

*2026-03-07, version 5.2.2*

Love this app! 👏🏽👍🏽👍🏽

### 5/5 — Genius!

*2025-12-21*

Even better than expected. Truly unique and very robust…just try it.

### 5/5 — A refreshing approach to civic participation and a modern day political arena.

*2025-10-10*

This app sounds for a lot of the pain points so many of us have today about politics for all players, not just voters, but politicians, ethical press and promoting civil discourse.

### 5/5 — Patriotic Americans needs this app!

*2024-12-14, version 4.6.0*

Beautiful, savvy and unique.

### 5/5 — I love using MOXY!

*2024-08-15*

This app is so informative, and it helps me know so much about what’s going on around the world. It give me all the tools I need to learn!

### 5/5 — Every American needs this!

*2024-06-11*

Beautifully designed app that makes accessing a broad spectrum of news stories plus info about your government, politicians, elections or that might be hidden in the bizantium of web sites who knows where…gotta tell my friends about this asap.

### 5/5 — Finally a platform with both substance and social

*2023-06-10*

I like that MOXY let’s you try even the Premium and Power versions for 30 days at no charge. There’s so much official data at all levels of gov and a robust news feed with pubs across the spectrum. Once people get out of their shell there’s bound to be a ton of due course across ideologies. Definitely give it a shot.

### 5/5 — When App Store Ads Lead To Good Downloads

*2022-12-09*

I like the idea of having all of these government resources available on 1 app. As a news junkie, aside from live cameras only newsrooms have access to, things like this are great to have.

**Developer response:** Thank you Jason! Glad you're enjoying MOXY - and there's lots more in the works, so stay tuned in...
