## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.5 — 2026-05-11

This version is huge update, here are the highlights:
 - HSK 3.0 support! With HSK 3.0 launching officially in July 2026, I wanted to make sure everyone studying for an HSK exam now can use cards that match the levels they will be tested on. HSK 3.0 has around 10,000 words, almost double the previous HSK, so this was a huge amount of work. If you notice anything wrong, please report it in the app feedback screen.
 - Inclusion of frequency data (from SUBTLEX-CH) for all words. This allows us to do some exciting things, such as: show how common a dictionary word is in spoken Chinese, and also order the introduction of HSK 3.0 words by the frequency you'd actually encounter them in real life. I am especially excited about this, as evidence shows this can be a more effective way to study with spaced repetition (SRS).
 - Lots of other small fixes and improvements, including a rewrite of how the database is stored internally.

Existing Moya Chinese users will automatically be moved to the HSK 3.0 level that is the closest match to their known vocabulary. You can always change this from the settings screen.

### 1.3 — 2026-03-19

大家好！Another day, another version. Thanks for all your feedback on the previous release.

This time, we're mostly making some bug fixes:
 - A bug in the scheduling algorithm caused some words to be scheduled after the heat death of the universe, which we are told is too long for many of our learners. Now it's capped to 1 year.
 - Some words were shown too frequently, especially if you've indicated you know them in a couple of modes already. We've fine-tuned this scheduling a bit more. No more excuses not to do your daily vocab review now.
 - On the study screen, the history of your study sessions for each word now always shows what mode it was studied in. There was a bug affecting some beta users that caused this to not always show. But now they'll know!

That's it. No big flashy features this time. But we're always cooking something, so stay tuned for what's next. For the next release, we'd still love to hear what features you'd like to see. Remember to vote!

### 1.2 — 2026-03-08

大家好！This version adds lots of small fixes and improvements.

- The item placement system now allows for easier placement and re-arranging of items on the shelves.
- Fixes to the definitions and example sentences in dozens of cards
- A fix so that the guide is always available when writing characters (but is off by default from the second revision onwards)
- A fix to the text-to-speech system that helps disambiguate cases where one characters has multiple pronunciations
- A fix to pinyin mode to allow slight errors, but with a hint as to the correct answer for next time.
- Some other miscellaneous fixes and improvements.

Thank you to everyone who sent feedback on the previous version! Remember to vote on the next features you'd like to see (if you haven't already), and let's keep learning together. 加油！

### 1.1 — 2026-03-07

This release is jam-packed with new features and fixes!

- New character writing study mode (Premium only)
- A full dictionary so word lookups work for vocabulary outside of HSK, and you can add words you encounter in real life to your study queue.
- Tap to look up words in example sentences
- HSK progress estimates
- A complete redesign of the Words tab so you can see your vocabulary and look up dictionary words side-by-side
- Improvements to the spaced repetition algorithm to better manage the queue
- Thousands more example sentences
- Fixes to many cards and sentences
- A new pinyin-friendly keyboard with number inputs
- Lots of small bug fixes
