Even just having 2D arrays, or lists of strings would be great. Arguments for functions too! But still it’s brilliant 😍 Ooooh.. Customization of interface! Or 8x8 buttons with 8 knobs!!! I'll keep dreaming! 😂 ### 5/5 — Bewerten ist lästig... *2021-05-09* ... mache ich deshalb auch ganz selten. Diese App ist aber (für mich) so saugut, dass ich mal wieder eine Bewertung abgeben muss. Für die programmier-aversen gibt es sicher viele Presets, aber dazu kann ich nichts sagen (da habe ich noch nicht mal nachgeschaut), denn wenn ich was brauche, skripte ich es mir mal schnell... der Preis für die App liegt inzwischen deutlich im negativen Bereich, weil ich mir viele andere Midi-Apps dadurch spare (und ich hab die App gerade mal eine Woche). Außerdem kann ich damit exotische Steuerungen machen, für die es gar keine Apps gibt. z.B. eine komplexe „automatische“ Oktav-Umschaltung meines Midi Basspedals in Abhänigkeit von gespielten Tonabständen in einem bestimmten Zeitfenster...ect.. klar, ein paar Kleinigkeiten kann man immer verbessern (das editieren mit dem iPad ist normal nicht sehr komfortabel). Aber Leute, das Ding ist der Hammer (für mich zumindest, der gerne ein bisschen programmiert). ich kann nur sagen: Danke! Die App war (trotz Preis) ein Geschenk für mich! ### 5/5 — Wow *2021-03-31, version 1.3.9* I didn’t know what to do with this app when I first bought it- I’m generally not the kind of guy that writes his own scripts. But once I realized that there are loads of smart people writing and sharing Mozaic scripts on places like patchstorage.com...I began to realize how useful and fun this app can be. I now count this among my very favorite apps! This app + a good synth + AUM = infinite musical possibilities. ### 5/5 — Great, but missing an important feature *2020-10-26, version 1.3.8* Excellent. Adding the ability to load and save individual scripts to a folder in Files would be most welcome. ### 5/5 — Highly useful tool *2020-07-30, version 1.3.7* This app made things possible on my iPad that were only possible on my laptop before. Even if you can’t write a lick of code, there are dozens of amazing scripts available on patchstorage . com that you can just download and run. More scripts appear all the time. It’s like getting an endless stream of free midi apps. If you are comfortable with any level of programming and understand how MIDI is used, then there is a world of possibilities open to you. The manual is outstanding. I’ve seen advanced programmers get frustrated. Mozaic intentionally strikes a balance between simplicity, leanness, and power. You may not like those limitations. Personally, I get it, and don’t try to make of it what it’s not. This is by far one of the best music apps on iOS, by one of the best developers ever. ### 5/5 — Bram, open a Patreon and you will have supporters. *2020-03-31, version 1.3.5* I’m an idiot and a jerk for NOT leaving this high tier developer a review sooner. I’ve been into iOS music production for the last year or so. After playing only guitar and piano for half my life, I am now having the most fun I’ve ever had making music on iOS. I had a question on Twitter about how to use the multi outs in Ruismaker (BUY IT) and Bram got back to me in minutes. It was a case of total user oversight. But the developer replied so quickly and so nicely. If you’re on the fence and have some money. Please just purchase. We are spoiled rotten on iOS. Support this developer. The apps get updated ALL of the time. Each one is so different and unique from the other. Each purchase is worth it. Thank you for everything and thank you in advance for your continued work. THANK YOU ### 5/5 — Game Changer!!! *2020-01-10, version 1.3.3* If you work with MIDI, you absolutely need this. I don’t usually write reviews for apps but I really felt compelled to do so here. The scripting language is not very difficult to learn and the documentation is remarkably easy to follow. There is a rather active user community and already tons of people have submitted plethora of work which is freely available for download. Don’t even think about it... seriously this has to be the biggest bang for the buck on any app I’ve ever purchased in the App Store. Just get it, you cannot go wrong. ### 5/5 — Amazing *2019-12-21, version 1.3.2* Check out Mozaic plugin engine on Audiobus’ Wiki, you’re in for surprise how much has been developed in scripts. 👍 ### 5/5 — Brilliant. Best app in the Store *2019-11-28, version 1.3.2* If you have any computer script writing skill at all - JavaScript, PHP etc - this is the only MIDI effects plug-in you need. Once you get your head around the way that events work you can manipulate MIDI data in any way you can think of. I have brought new life to an old MIDI foot controller that just sends Program Change messages so that I can use it as bass pedals, control a looper or as a guitar FX pedalboard. I have also added key zones to a keyboard and made several utilities. It’s amazing how little actual code you need to write to achieve useful stuff. ### 5/5 — DIY MIDI Scripts/Programming *2019-11-17, version 1.3.2* The scripts on patchshare.com can be very useful in their own right or to help you learn to write your own scripts. The Mozaic script language is relatively straightforward and the user manual explains all of the details. The growing collection of shared user scripts is impressive and a great resource. ### 5/5 — Amazing *2019-09-11, version 1.2* Even if you don't know how to program, this app is still totally worth your money. 1) There are dozens of very useful premade scripts available on Patchstorage, any one of which would be worth the price of the app and more. 2) there's a very well written manual which walks you through how to go about creating your own scripts. Superb. ### 5/5 — Magicians Apprentice *2019-09-01, version 1.2* Yes this unlocks it all, practically limitless control of midi. Everything your other midi plugins do, this does it in the 5th dimension. Its simple enough for a 2 line program to be quicker and easier to make than trying to find a plugin that does the same thing, and its deep enough to write a game with. Automation of a looper and weird sequencing ideas is why i wanted it. I know a bit of programming this is a really effective and simple language, immediately satisfying, ideas i buried for years have started to pop out again. Quite possibly the best Acid synth I’ve ever heard on ISO. I have upgraded to three of this developers apps and 2 decades ago I would have laughed at what your getting at the more than reasonable cost. iPhones are becoming more accessible to the kids and this app in particular is what I was anticipating from them. Nice one. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Beware - User Interface severely compromised. *2020-08-02, version 1.3.7* There is a small selection of interface panels you can use. If you want to do anything complex, you need to do things like reassigning knob functionality based on button/pad selection. This requires dynamically labelling the pads with the knob settings so you can see them when the pad isn’t selected. However, MOZAIC HAS NO STRING VARIABLE SUPPORT. You can only use string constants when setting pad labels. This means that 1000s of lines of if...elseif... code has to be written to cater for every possible label even if you’re only doing this for a couple of pads. The developer has so far refused to implement even the simplest of string variable support (assign/read), so as it stands, Mozaic is severely crippled for anything but the most basic of tasks that require a user interface. RESPONSE: Agreed. You can give a pad a name, but if you want to show the status of 4 knobs in English on that pad it takes over 600 lines of code. Mozaic’s engine is very powerful, but it’s hamstrung (Bramstrung?) by shortcomings in visual feedback to the user. It’s a Ferrari with bicycle wheels... 2ND RESPONSE: Not how it works. Ratings are subjective. Mine is based on the opinion that this issue is the one thing that severely handicaps the capability of Mozaic coupled with the fact that you have refused to even entertain the idea of implementing ANY of the different workarounds for flexible labelling suggested by several sources, not just mine. “I stand by my decision.” ### 3/5 — Powerful concept and useful, but still has few kinks that needs to be fixed *2026-06-27, version 1.4.2* Love the concept — a scriptable AUv3 MIDI plugin is brilliant for custom iOS rigs. But the scripting language is surprisingly fragile. Even with AI assistance, simple scripts took multiple rounds to get right due to inconsistent syntax and poor documentation. Two requests: add a clear button for the Log console, and append logs to the bottom, not the top. Enormous potential — please keep polishing it! ### 5/5 — So gut! *2024-06-01* Stundenlang nach einem bestimmten MIDI Effekt in den Apps gesucht… nichts gefunden, was funktioniert… Dann die Erleuchtung — da gibt‘s ja auch noch Mosaic! In 15 Minuten selbst geschrieben, läuft reibungslos und latenzfrei. What?? Ok, ich hatte vorher schon mal 1,5 Stunden in meine Lernkurve investiert, aber die Skriptsprache ist so straightforward und die Anleitung so kurzweilig, dass das das reine Vergnügen war. Wer gerne kreativ tätig und nicht total code-avers ist, kann hier ne Menge Freude haben. ### 5/5 — Still the King of Midi Mangling *2024-02-06, version 1.3.16* I mostly buy music apps use them 2-3 times and then abandon them until out of nowhere both the necessity and remembrance of such tools comes synchronously. Mozaic however, has literally been a plug-in I have tons of instances of ON ANY project. Whilst not the most trivial app, requiring the user to code… after little over a month or two I was making plugs you just can’t find anywhere in the AppStore. I use mozaic for everything, literally has made multiple useless controllers into usable gear (midi stuff obviously) and that doesn’t even account for all the procedural music you can generate (or accompany) with the use of such a versatile tool. Whilst I completely understand why Bram hadn’t made Mozaic 2 (probably not a big seller in comparison to his other amazing apps), I still wish everyday such tool will eventually bless us (perhaps with a modular interface that allows us to build the UI, a la “loopy pro”). My favorite app by Bram, and it hurts to say so cause every single one is amazing (but this one is a game changer for real). ### 5/5 — ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING *2023-08-28, version 1.3.14* I purchased this app to enable me to receive and send SysEx data dumps from my keyboard to Cubasis3 on my iPad, mainly to change the transpose to what ever key I require, but just by selecting one of many templates in Mozaic I was able to achieve my goals without any effort on my part. Best purchase ever in my opinion. Worthy of 10 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ### 5/5 — Essential *2023-06-04, version 1.3.14* Essential for ios midi affairs.. also great manual that lays bare midi's inner workings ### 5/5 — Absolutely incredible! *2023-05-09, version 1.3.14* I started out using this app to make my old Novation LaunchControl Mk1 light up the pads when i pressed them, and as I got to grips with the incredible Mozaic programming language I came to realise the vast possibilities I suddenly had at my fingertips. This has turned my simple hardware and ipad combination into something that can do exactly what i want it to do, no need to search for other apps that can sort of get me close to what I want. Fantastic for feedback on the controller when performing live. Overjoyed! It displays them perfectly, but it won’t run the script. ## Most praised reviews (2 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Excellent AUM midi tool, THANKS! *2022-01-29, version 1.3.12* You don’t need to be a script writer or programmer to get some great midi tools/apps built with this application. A lot of great midi plugins have already been created by the gear heads. I needed a midi clock for external midi gear in AUM and found one made with Mozaic. I suggest you go to ruismaker.com for info and patchstorage.com to checkout the Mosaic tools/patches/applications currently available. If you are a gear head enthusiast. You can make your own tools or modify someone else’s code. I’ve used many script languages in my computer career and the developer has done an excellent job with this app. I added two simple program patch selectors for the ARTURIA MicroFreak and KORG Minilogue XD. I’m a bit rusty in writing code, but it didn’t take long to make something useful. My only complaint is that the description makes it appear that this is purely a developer tool. Mozaic Midi Tools - Write Your Own or Use Shared Code I think many AUM users missed this app and its usefulness, I know I did. I skipped over it but came back after my search for a AUM midi clock solution. It’s a gateway to many useful tools/apps, with more to come. Thanks Bram Bos for this and all of your other iOS apps. ### 5/5 — Genial!!! *2021-12-27* Mittlerweile gibt es ja viele fertige Scripts von motivierteren Programmierern als ich. Vielen Dank an euch! Ich würde mich als MIDI-Nerd bezeichnen und als solcher ist es für mich die perfekte App! Damit sage ich meinen verschiedenen MIDI-Controllern was sie tun sollen, ich nutze Step-Sequenzer, Akkord-Generatoren, generiere Zufallsmelodien,...... Unendliche Möglichkeiten!
