Là một ca sĩ tại Việt Nam, bên cạnh thể loại pop, anh còn hát rất nhiều các ca khúc nhạc tiền chiến mang tính chất trữ tình cũng như nhạc Trịnh Công Sơn.

Đàm Vĩnh Hưng bắt đầu là một ca sĩ tự do và anh tham gia rất nhiều cuộc thi trong đó có 8 lần tham gia Giải Tiếng Hát Truyền Hình.

Năm 1999, Đàm Vĩnh Hưng tham gia vào Trung tâm ca nhạc nhẹ Sài Gòn.
Đàm Vĩnh Hưng đến gần với công chúng hơn qua bài hát « Tình ơi xin ngủ yên ». Sau ca khúc hits đình đám này , anh đã được khán giả yêu mến rất nhiều qua hàng loạt album phát hành sau đó.

Năm 2005, anh chính thức thành lập công ty của riêng mình, mang tên Công ty TNHH Giải Trí Tiếng Hát Việt.

Từ khi đi vào hoạt động đến nay, công ty Tiếng Hát Việt đã tạo được những thành tích đáng kể với phong cách làm việc chuyên nghiệp và hiện đại.

Cả cuộc đời sự nghiệp của anh được biên tập lưu trữ số hóa.
