Only reason why I put 4 start is because I would like to suggest to add a feature on the app where you can add you favourite restaurants to. A favourites feature. I think that’d be amazing. Because tell me why I had to explain myself to a guy who was telling me a 10% tip was a waste of his time and petrol, having to go as far as to tell me which restaurant I should be ordering From because it’s convenient for him. Just now I wanted to place an order but I remembered I might end up with a scolding simply because my order doesn’t live up to the drivers expectations, hence I’m now writing this review. it’s the bloody disrespect honestly, and the fact that I couldn’t give a driver rating on the app directly. It’s really not a stretch to have these options on the app. Imagine having to now drive to a restaurant because you’re trying to avoid the embarrassment of being insulted by a random stranger for giving them your money 😮‍💨 id appreciate it if you guys can get back to me so i can log an official complaint and have this person removed from delivering to me. Friendly drivers fast delivery it’s an all round good experience for me. I would just love the option to redo an order by going to “past orders” and selecting a order receipt that then adds the past orders’ items into my cart. This would make things easier if you already know what you like from a specific restaurant. The variety of products at in-store prices for Pick ‘n Pay is my favourite. The after sales service is impeccable. Staff are friendly, the drivers are friendly. I don’t know when last I’ve actually shopped in store because it’s just not necessary. Being a subscriber and the perks that come with it is just the icing on top. I could go on and on. From abroad it makes it easier and it’s an efficient way to get food and groceries to my family in South Africa. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Hopeless for tourists *2026-03-13, version 6.35.1* On a three week holiday in South Africa, wanted to use the app for a meal but without a South African number to register then you can’t use the app. I spoke to support but they couldn’t help me at all. ### 1/5 — Misleading Delivery Times & Poor Service from Pick n Pay on Mr D *2025-10-16, version 6.29.0* I’m extremely disappointed with the experience of ordering Pick n Pay groceries through the Mr D app. During the shopping process, a delivery time is shown — but as soon as the order is paid, that time mysteriously changes when you check the tracking (“The store is on it”). This feels like false advertising. It’s frustrating and misleading. Even worse, there have been multiple instances where the store fails to deliver at all. No updates, no support, just wasted time and money. It’s shocking that a platform like Takealot continues to support such unreliable service through Mr D. Oh and i never order from mr d as food is cold and in dirty containers. ### 1/5 — Driver disappeared with order - terrible handling to resolve from call centre *2025-02-22, version 6.19.1* Mr D has service has declined to a level that is beyond shocking , Although order was at the time already 1 hour late, Driver marked food as delivered and disconnected his tracking halfway to adress- The only thing worse was the way their call centre handled my plea for assistance, they did not call their driver , and said my query will be re directed which i was told they have no idea on turnaround time, which left us by 21:00 when restaurants were closed still with no food , ni assistance , and a very uninterested call centre agent , that couldn't care less , Clearly she hates her job and have no interest in assisting clients, And it seems that they protect their defaulting drivers , call centre avoid to give you their names, And you are denied to speak to anyone senior - so they devoid from any way in taking responsibilty to resolve , So R300 order , gone , Eventually i got through to another call centre guy , i eventually got approval to get my money back , however may be in 5 days , So yes by 21:00 no friver , no order no food , no assistance , no supervisor and R300 that will float in there system until one day they refund it - I wont recommend Mr D to everyone i know, but judging by there absolutely no care attitude, and shielding their drivers with non delivery and disappearing with R300 order , they are doing a fine job by losing clients at a rapid pace , Being unreliable , dishonest, Rude , No care attitude, no frear to answer to it - cleary very cushy in their job wherby they covers up for each other, they doing just fine by blissfully moving to levels yhat will one day lead to closure ### 1/5 — Garbage *2025-02-14, version 6.18.0* Typical South African garbage. At 17:30 the tracker was saying order being prepared so I did not even have driver number to contact. At this point I was unsure of where the delay was and if the food would still be coming. My kids were screaming hungry and I didn’t know if I needed to order or buy other food. I eventually phoned the helpline and they said they will contact the driver centre. Food was delivered cold at 17:50 and I still don’t k ow where the fault was to see how it could be avoided. I understand deliveries can be late but the lack of communication of things go wrong was what would make me consider to never order again. I am genuinely flabbergasted by how delicious it was. This wasn’t just good food, it tasted like real home-cooked comfort, made with heart and soul. It honestly took me back to the Bolognese my sister used to make when I was at home, and that kind of feeling is rare to experience with delivered food. The flavours were rich, perfectly balanced, and incredibly satisfying. What impressed me even more was that the food arrived piping hot, which truly shocked me and shows the care taken from preparation to delivery. If the food, and the manner in which it was delivered , was this exceptional, I honestly can’t imagine how incredible the atmosphere must be at the actual restaurant. Nonnas is truly in a league of their own. I will without a doubt be ordering again.
