### 1/5 — App is junk

*2020-01-07, version 2.1*

Pain to connect. Wouldn’t connect with my phone but fortunately it connected with my iPad so I was able to then login with my phone and it worked until my units went offline. Then had to reconnect my downstairs unit once, my upstairs unit a second time. Now I cannot get the upstairs unit to connect at all. App keeps taking me to allow notifications screen. Just ridiculous. The idea is great, functionality and execution are very poor.

### 1/5 — Cannot add device

*2020-01-02, version 2.1*

Used app for a year or two without issues. Unit dropped from WiFi connection and attempted to add de ice back. Get to step 3 of procedures where you are told to connect WiFi directly to device. Next button takes you to iPhone settings to connect but app does nothing after that and pressing next puts you back into iPhone settings. Endless loop.

### 1/5 — App doesn’t work at all

*2019-11-10, version 2.1*

I would give zero stars if it were an option. I cannot get the app to pair with my unit. I cannot get any tech support. What a waste of money.

### 1/5 — Complete Junk

*2019-10-23, version 2.1*

1. Will not keep any settings on the app. You have to reprogram everything each time you use it.
2. My account disappeared so I had to open a new account.
3. New account creation failure. My “link” sent via email to activate my new account is broke. The instructions for a broken link don’t work either. I get HTTP Status 404 or link illegal or expired.

Split HVAC unit is awesome. Their software is pathetic.

### 1/5 — Time scheduling

*2019-09-18, version 2.1*

The time scheduling doesn’t seem to work at all. Unit doesn’t turn on or off as scheduled....

### 1/5 — App Remote Is Horrible

*2019-09-18, version 2.1*

First step after creating account is verification email. The link sent in the email is invalid/illegal site

Without verification email the app still allowed me to move forward and configure my AC to my network. Configuration was successful and I can see the AC on my network device, but the app doesn’t not show the device on my network.

I simply unplugged the WiFi usb stick and threw it away because it is useless

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2019-06-21, version 2.1*

Update wipes out account

### 1/5 — Good when it works

*2019-06-09, version 2.1*

When I installed the mini split, I installed the app. It worked on my first try so I thought ok great. Few weeks later, they upgraded the app. Once again, I said this is great. Now since May, I’ve been using my mini split unit but without this app. Every time I open the app, it says the unit is offline. So I’ve had to delete the profile and reinstall it like a new setup. So I just ended up deleting the app and using the remote, shame!

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2019-06-09, version 2.1*

I setup my mini split unit in the app and it worked great the first time. Now every time I attempt to use the app it says that the device is offline. The only way I found to circumvent this was to go through the entire setup over again. Terrible terrible app.

### 1/5 — Always offline

*2019-05-20, version 2.1*

My unit is ALWAYS offline. Can’t use the app. I set it up it works great for a day or two. Then goes into being offline.

### 1/5 — App shows my HVAC system offline

*2019-05-10, version 2.1*

At first when I installed this app I would’ve given it a 5 star review. Everything worked fantastic and was easy to use. That was yesterday...today the app tell me my system is offline and the app is absolutely useless. Please address this issues! Wether it’s pushing an update out for the app and or an update for the HVAC system as well.

### 1/5 — Newest update fail

*2019-05-03, version 2.1*

With the newest update you lose your account... this app needs major work, and the update is a step in the wrong direction. If you are buying a Mr. Cool based on app functionality I would seriously consider something else.

### 1/5 — Truly Terrible Design & Function

*2019-02-03, version 1.1*

At first I was really glad this product had an app for controlling the unit while away, but the first time I used it, I realized how useless it is. It does not replicate most of the functions from the battery-powered remote control. The buttons aren’t labeled and also don’t work. You also can’t see the actual vs. target temperatures for a room which would be useful when controlling from afar. I paid for a third party device to send IR commands to the unit instead. App should be a bonus but instead it’s so awful I want to buy a competitive product with better app controls.

### 1/5 — Very poor implementation

*2018-08-21, version 1.1*

This app is barely functional, and does not represent the quality of the Mr. Cool heat pump. If I had seen the app first, I would have been scared away from buying their heat pump. It is a blind remote in that it merely toggles settings, there is no communication from the heat pump, so you don’t know what the fan speed is, for example. Needs a lot work.

### 1/5 — Can’t even change the temp without frustration

*2018-08-17, version 1.1*

Love my MRCOOL but this app is not very useful. Fails on simple functions such as changing the temperature. You have to swipe for each degree and the app sends a signal in between for each. It literally takes 30 secs just to set the temperature 10°.

### 1/5 — Just plain bad

*2018-08-09, version 1.1*

This app is somewhere between useless and totally worthless. Fails to connect and complete installation. Instructions that cane with the USB are for a totally different version. They shouldn’t claim it works with ios when it just plain doesn’t.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — It doesn’t work at all.

*2025-04-24, version 2.1*

The app doesn’t let you register.

### 1/5 — Not Mr Cool

*2021-01-18, version 2.1*

This did not work and is not mr cools app. I went through the

### 1/5 — Can’t add mini split to account

*2020-10-06, version 2.1*

This used to work great, but then it stopped... and then I couldn’t add it again. Can’t get passed the connect to AC WiFi. I can connect to the WiFi, but then the app never lets me move forward in the process, just sending me back into my settings each attempt.

### 1/5 — Horrible app!!

*2020-10-05, version 2.1*

This app doesn’t work. Mini split got hung in AP mode. I had to reset the breaker to recover the system. Just WOW!

### 1/5 — Just doesn’t work

*2020-09-12, version 2.1*

After connecting to the Mr Cool local wifi to set up, it can never get to the next step, just takes you to the apps settings. Complete crap

### 1/5 — Can not connect AC to network

*2020-07-13, version 2.1*

When I go through the steps of adding an AC mini split the app throws me out to the MRCOOL remote settings. I see the ac network and connect to it, but I cannot get further in the pairing process. I cannot use it.

### 1/5 — Cannot sync unit with app

*2020-07-05, version 2.1*

Like others are saying, I cannot get the app to sync with the unit

### 1/5 — Terrible App

*2020-05-25, version 2.1*

Can’t get the app past the install my ductless device just loop between setting and install routine. Pure Crap.

### 1/5 — Faulty app. Lazy dev. Lousy QA

*2020-05-03, version 2.1*

This app was horribly developed and quality assurance was sleeping sleeping with the ac on.

1. Doesn’t work with the app all the time.

2. Authentication failed for no reason.

3. Application set up redirects to the settings frequently after connecting to the adapter network.

4. If you change the value of the AC from the app then the AC doesn’t sync with the remote. (I know it’s outside of the app)

5. If the AC is not used for 30 days then device goes offline completely.

Spent 2,300 dollar for this AC just because of the remote access which I am not able to use.

No wonder why this app has 1.5 star.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2020-02-16, version 2.1*

Can’t get it to complete the setup

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Huston, all is good!

*2018-10-29, version 1.1*

Works perfectly for what it offers. I’ve had no connection issues since upgrading my WiFi in my Workshop. More features would be nice but definitely aren’t a deal breaker. Cooled great all summer and now nights are into the 20s and my shop is nice and toasty.

### 5/5 — Works great, even while away

*2016-06-04, version 1.0*

This apps work great. I can turn the AC on before I leave from work. It allows you to adjust the fan speed and temperature.

### 4/5 — Does its job

*2018-12-08, version 1.1*

Not the best design or usability, but it does the job.

### 4/5 — It works eventually

*2018-08-18, version 1.1*

It works and you can turn the AC on/off remotely. You can change the temperature (swipe) or mode too. Pretty good.
I cut one star off because it does not accept WiFi passwords with special characters like []<>. Took me many tries to figure out this limitation.

### 4/5 — It works

*2017-06-19, version 1.1*

Another update: the MrCool people did eventually get back to me, and worked with me to resolve the issue. Apparently a weak wifi module was the culprit. They sent me a replacement and after plugging it in, I have only had one incidence of the unit showing offline. So, so far so good. Upgrading by a star based on customer service responsiveness and willingness to work with me til the issue was resolved.

Update: the app stopped working, instead sending error "the ASYN reply does not exist." I called MrCool and they were worthless - said they get back to me the following day, and of course he didn't. I reinstalled the app, then paired the unit again. Same result. I finally thought to reboot the wifi network the unit is on, even though that network is operating just fine - speed tests are normal and I've been streaming HD video and music through it without issue. Lo and behold, that did the trick. Apparently the DIY unit's method of staying connected to an otherwise fully operational network is unstable, despite the app showing the unit online. I'll be glad when they finally upgrade this app such that it actually works.

Original review:
Installed a MrCool DIY 24k over the weekend, and chose the brand partly because of the ability to control it via the app - very important for my application. About a 3rd of the time the app shows that the unit is offline, although in subsequent attempts the app can usually get its attention. The fan speed switch on the app doesn't show which speed the fan is going, and I'm not even sure it works from the app. The turbo button usually says that the feature isn't equippd to work with my unit, then other times it works. Nether feature that changes the air direction work, up and down, or right and left, although I know that the right and left feature really doesn't work on the unit, even via the IR remote control. The app paired with the unit, but not exactly according to the instructions, which I suspect were written for a past iOS version that isn't current - I couldn't testify in court how I got everything to pair, but on my second try everything paired successfully, so ok. So basically, you can usually...USUALLY turn it on, turn it off, switch modes auto-cool-heat, and change the temp, and just about every other function either doesn't work or only works every once in a while. So all-in-all, I'm glad that this exists, because the basic ability to turn on my AC from 400 miles away is an absolute necessity for me. But it barely exists in a functional form, and anybody wanting advanced features? Lotsa luck. REALLY looking forward to a much-improved version 2.0, SOON please? IF there was a 2.5 star rating, that's what I would have really given it.

### 3/5 — Did I make the wrong buy

*2017-06-21, version 1.1*

I bought this unit for the Wifi and the APP and neither are working. Hopefully I hear back from Mr. Cool tomorrow.

EDIT: The unit connects now. Mr Cool sent a quick email with instructions for connecting. The signal disconnects occasionally but I guess that's ok. The APP doesn't have any programming for different temps. For instance, I'd like a different day temp and night temp and I have to do it manually as opposed to programming it for daily operations.

### 2/5 — Version 2.1 is non functional for me

*2019-08-30, version 2.1*

This update locked me out of my account. Doesn’t read the QR code. And instructions do not match my mini-split. Older version did work for me, but now I have no working app.

Update: got it working. Need to set up NEW account. Works. Bare-bones app.

### 2/5 — Sort of working?

*2018-08-04, version 1.1*

My fan randomly stops. This unit is in my shop so I wanted the wifi app to control it when I am away. I have just set up the app a few days ago and gone in to find the fan was not blowing. This has happened a few times. Also my display is in celsius and can’t figure out how to change it to Fahrenheit.

### 2/5 — Awful App, but it’s all we have

*2018-07-05, version 1.1*

This app isn’t great at all. It will mostly say my ACs are offline - maybe 90% of the time. You can’t rename your AC units and you can’t delete ones that aren’t there anymore. It’s not been updated in over 2 years and there isn’t really anyone who “keeps it up”...

### 2/5 — App controls suc

*2018-05-19, version 1.1*

The controls in the app are limited, for example you can control the fan speed however there is no indicator as to what the fan speed is. So if you are doing this away from home to cool or heat while you are away you have no idea what it’s actually doing.
Great idea poor execution, smart home is the way of the future.
The product works great, but the app development is way behind.
