## What is MSU Guide?

Guide is an exciting new way to explore and find your way around the Michigan State University (MSU) campus in East Lansing. Designed at the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities(RCPD) to help those with visual, spatial, and mobility disabilities discover their surroundings, Guide is interactive and provides real-time location-aware information about campus landmarks while remaining accessible and useful to all. Guide is uniquely ready to help students, employees, and visitors identify important campus landmarks using 3 core tools available when walking campus:

● WAND - Point your phone at any building on campus to discover its name and more information including wheelchair accessible entrances.

● MAP - A map that lets you view campus landmarks. Tap to drop a pin, then click on it to view a compass that locks on to the closest landmark under the pin.

● SEARCH - Use the iOS home screen search function(Spotlight) to locate any campus building by name. Once you search and identify your building, simply select it and we'll lock onto it so you can always check where it is relative to where you are without needing a map. You can even use navigation from Spotlight results to view detailed directions to a landmark.

We are only getting started and have a ton of new features in the works to help you navigate campus. Stay tuned!

We welcome feedback, suggestions and any issues you may be having with the app at

### 5/5 — Great app!

*2018-07-23, version 1.2.6*

This app was great for finding the locations of everything on campus!

### 2/5 — Good app with limitations

*2017-12-08, version 1.2.5*

One major drawback to the app is that when searching for a location, you are not able to move the map from that point. The search feature locks you into a, tightly zoomed, static view of the location.

Some parking lots should also be added to the search feature so they can be searched by #.

“Spartan Village XXXX” also flood the search results when searching with a number.

The most useful feature is probably the ability to see the entrances to buildings.

The app is still lacking in iPhone X display support which is disappointing. I hope support will be added soon.

### 5/5 — Fantastic way to figure out your new surroundings

*2017-07-08, version 1.2.5*

I love the way you can use the one featured a point in a direction to know what building that is over there. I also appreciate seeing what's around me and being able to set that is a target and then have an audio queue when I'm getting closer.

Sorry it's been a while! We've been working on a few brand new projects to help make navigating MSU easier.

Please iMessage or email us at guide@rcpd.msu.edu to help test them, or to report issues with Guide.

### 1.2.6 — 2018-01-30

I’m very sorry this update took so long to get out the door. Thank you to everyone that emailed or got in touch.

C H A N G E S
● Updated visual design for iOS 11 and iPhone X
● Added shortened/colloquial versions of some building names.
● Update search function to work with abbreviated names such as IM/MSU etc.
● If VoiceOver is running while using the Wand, the sound effect played when a building is detect now changes depending on the current accuracy, removing the need to manually check the accuracy. A low or awkward tone indicates a low accuracy, a neutral tone indicates medium and an upbeat tone indicates a high accuracy. Note that you can still swipe right from the building pointed at to get the old Wand accuracy.

F I X E S
● Prevents an issue where the app would crash if launched from the 3D touch menu.
● Fixes a bug where help menu would not work on iOS 11
● Removed Spartan Village building numbers from Search
● Removed 3D Touch support temporarily to fix some issues with accessibility

Again, please email us at guide@rcpd.msu.edu and if that doesn’t work iMessage us with guide@rcpd.msu.edu in the address field. Sometimes fixes take a while to implement, test and make sure changes work for everyone, but we absolutely are working on every single suggestion that you have sent us.

### 1.2.5 — 2017-06-28

This update includes the following:

● 3D Touch support for previewing the Search Tab results.

● Attempts to address a crash with certain models of the iPhone 7Plus. I’d like to say this fixes it, but we don’t see any logs on our end and none of the kind folk who left reviews bothered to follow up. If this does fix it for you and you left a review, please do leave another review saying so!

I need a little help: some times crashes happen that are not made available to us. We don’t run anything on your phone that we wouldn’t want to put on ours, so there are NO hidden analytics, monitoring, etc other than those provided by Apple which are opt-in on your end. So now there’s 3 ways you can help us fix issues when the app doesn’t work the way you want or crashes.

● Go to Settings > Privacy > Analytics and Turn on Analytics along with Share with App Developers. This is the easiest for you and will not kill your battery.
● Email us at guide@rcpd.msu.edu. I will make sure it is fixed and credit you personally within the app and here.
● iMessage us, thats right, iMessage us at guide@rcpd.msu.edu. Seriously, any time of the day works: if its a bug or crash this is the fastest way to get it fixed.
● If you’re on campus, feel free to drop by our office at 120 Bessey Hall. Not only will we fix it, but leave you with a working build on the spot. Also, you get to tell me exactly what you want in the app and I'll never say no to a good idea.
