### 2/5 — Switched to ManaBox

*2026-08-22*

This app used to be the bomb however I recently updated versions and now can no longer view card images nor update card database without a paid “premium” subscription. There is nothing premium about a paid app that functions worse than a free one. Just my 2 cents.

### 2/5 — Bait and switch.

*2026-07-04, version 3.1*

Developer has a great app until this recent pivot tow “subscription” model where previous app features (that users PAID for when they bought the app) are locked behind a new subscription paywall.

I don’t recommend anyone use this app now.

Look for alternatives.

### 2/5 — Oof micro transaction no thank you.

*2026-07-02, version 3.1*

I’ve had this app for a long time(2018) and used it a lot payed the like 8 bucks I think back then. With a sub to do anything I used to do imma have to drop this app down a bunch. There is other apps out there for free or a single pay that do what this app does. Or just look them up online for free

### 2/5 — Late stage capitalism ruined my experience

*2026-06-30, version 3.1*

I have been on this app since prolly 2012 and I paid $6.99 for the app when it came out and STILL I am now being denied access to viewing cards and updates. Adding a subscription cost because of the popularity of magic rn is exactly what is wrong with this app. I bought this app with my chore money when I was 9 I would like to keep using it for the $7 I paid. (Lovely app and has been amazing through all of my years of use)

### 2/5 — Disappointed

*2026-06-22, version 3.1*

Before I start,

THIS IS A GREAT APP!!!

I am disappointed for the reason I have used this app for over 7 years and now I’m required to pay. I have also lost all my trades and loans I had saved that I know longer have access to. Years of memories with people gone. Cards that I had loaned out to friends and family, all information gone.

$7 for a year isn’t a bad price for what this app is now charging. Just sucks l lost more than just access to premium features.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2026-06-21, version 3.1*

You have to pay now to even use the app. Got taken over by greedy suits.

### 1/5 — Scam app

*2026-06-20, version 3.1*

Don’t purchase this. I did before, and then they took away features that I had already purchased.

### 1/5 — Bought the app years ago and now I have to pay to use the relevant features

*2026-06-19, version 3.1*

Bought the app over six years ago. And now it’s switching to require a subscription to access the updated set information. Unacceptable. Deleting the app and using something else

### 1/5 — Paid for it, but now it’s crippled

*2026-06-17, version 3.1*

I hate to say it, but this has been a great app for a long time. But now it’s pretty horrible because they have switched to a subscription model. There’s really no reason at all to use this anymore unless you want to pay a monthly fee. Folks who bought this previously should have been grandfathered in.

### 1/5 — subscription... why

*2026-06-16, version 3.1*

I paid for the full version years ago, I use this app all the time.

Now I need to pay money to use the app (such as view cards), what a ripoff.

If I paid originally with the idea that I'd have the full app version for as long as it remained supported, why am I now expected to pay again

### 1/5 — Purchased, now locked behind subscription

*2026-06-10, version 3.1*

This is thr worst kind of app. I purchase apps that don’t have subscriptions for a reason. Dirty bait and switch tactics.

### 1/5 — Paid for this in 2023

*2026-06-06, version 3.1*

I paid $7 for this app a few years ago. Today I opened it to find out that there is now a required subscription to use it. So what good does my money I paid do? Who know…. Should have been grandfathered in. Very good way to support your supporters.

### 1/5 — Go use Spellbook instead

*2026-05-31, version 3.1*

App does what scryfall does but worse and now is asking money for a subscription? I bought in years ago and now the money I paid is worthless. Alright. There are other free apps that do what this does but better.

### 1/5 — Dated

*2026-05-31, version 3.1*

It used to be my favorite app bc of the trade option so I purchased it. Then people shifted from mid to low for trades, which it never supported. Then it got spotty and worked sometimes. I quit using it but I would try every so often. It never got better. After years, just checked again and now it requires a monthly sub. Hard pass.

### 1/5 — Used to be great

*2026-05-23, version 3.1*

Logged in to find out this randomly switched to a subscription and I’ve lost some functionality even though I purchased this years ago.

### 1/5 — Changing to a subscription model after I bought the app is crummy

*2026-05-21, version 3.1*

I bought the premium version of this app because I really found it useful. I think the app is the best at what it does, but changing from a one time purchase model to a subscription model is not for me. I feel like I paid for something and I should get to keep it. Sadly uninstalling after years.

### 1/5 — Oof

*2026-05-18, version 3.1*

Bought this years ago and was the best MTG related app on the App Store.
As with all good things, ruined with a subscription model. Would have been nice to be “grandfathered” in since I already paid for this but whatever. Now I’ll wait for the copy and paste response about server costs. Cool.

### 1/5 — Paid for it now they want more money

*2026-05-18, version 3.1*

Not worth a subscription to *checks notes* see card images. Find a better app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Used to be good

*2026-08-13*

I had been using this for many many years and it worked well. Now with a paid subscription, it seems they are trying just cash in. Easier just to leave a tab open on my phone of tcg player to do the same thing this does for free.

### 1/5 — Now Paywalled

*2026-07-14*

Moved to subscription, now not usable after purchasing the app. Terrible.

**Developer response:** I'm sorry you feel this way. I want to be upfront about why it happened: maintaining the app means ongoing costs I didn't have years ago: database updates, server hosting, and keeping up with each new iOS release. I've been supporting this app for every new magic set for 16 years. Paid-up-front sales weren't covering those costs anymore, so the choice was subscription or shutting it down. The core app you originally bought still works, and the subscription only gates the features that have ongoing costs behind them. I appreciate you having supported the app early on, and I'm sorry this change has soured the experience.

### 1/5 — Lost confidence

*2026-07-08, version 3.1*

Purchased the app and it was working well until they offered subscription and removed basic functionalities that made it great

### 1/5 — Scummy developer abusing long time paid user base

*2026-07-07, version 3.1*

I’ve been a paid user of this app since at least 2019. The developer recently migrated free openly available data on the internet, hosted by Wizards, behind a paid subscription model.

The only reason for this change is greed of the developer. Spend your money elsewhere.

### 1/5 — They took away everything I paid for

*2026-07-05, version 3.1*

I have had MTG trades now for years they just recently did an update and took away everything I paid for and want to charge me monthly to see things like card art.

### 1/5 — Do not buy SCAM

*2026-06-27, version 3.1*

App functionality was removed after full payment and now requiring a subscription. Scam!!

### 1/5 — Some of the scummiest business practices

*2026-06-26*

I paid for the app and was happy with my purchase for a long while, until one day I opened the app and was greeted by the fact that the created had functionally turned off all of the functionality if not subscribed for a monthly fee. This would be annoying but understandable on a free app, but on an app I had paid to use, it is absurd.

The base version, which I paid for, no longer allows for updating with new sets, meaning the app is essentially worthless for a modern user. Additionally, they turned off the ability to see card images, which is clearly just a method to make the experience worse enough to encourage further payment. This is truly shameless behavior. If 0 stars were available, I’d be happy.

### 1/5 — Bait and switch

*2026-06-25, version 3.1*

Long time customer that paid for app. Now it’s unusable and can’t get new cards. Forcing a subscription.
Scam app.

### 1/5 — Can’t update

*2026-06-23, version 3.1*

Used this forever, can’t even update new magic sets now or view cards. Terrible

### 1/5 — Sub now required.

*2026-06-22, version 3.1*

Bought this app years ago. Been great up until this recent update or now you have to have a premium subscription to access all the stuff that I once paid for. Safe to say I won’t be using this anymore.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Love it

*2026-06-26*

I’ve been using this app since it was new it’s fantastic and clean and I love how it downloads the info for offline use. My only wish is you have a small discount to long time users on the subscription

### 5/5 — Great app, worth supporting Devs

*2026-06-24*

I’ve had this app for over a decade and it has never let me down when a new set releases. Plenty of ways to sort versions and rarities to find what you’re looking for. The Trades/Wants features have also been super helpful when I’m attending events and lending/borrowing cards or setting up larger trades to match up values. Happy to pay the sub fees. This is a great app and will continue to support <3

### 5/5 — Absolutely the best MTG app

*2026-05-11*

Worth so much more than its cost. I use this to track all of my trades and loans, and create want lists for each deck and track prices as they change. Even better, the UI is so robust and intuitive that it has ended up being my go-to for searching up cards--sets are listed in chronological order with set symbols, and you're able to sort cards by price or rarity or name. You can even toggle between foil and non-foil prices with a single tap. Perfect design worth every penny.

**Developer response:** Thank you!

### 5/5 — Still my favorite MTG App

*2026-04-26*

Post subscription update: still a great app. $7 for a year is a bargain.

Original: I love this app. I have yet to find one better. What I like: Quickly downloads all prices, and stores them for viewing offline, like on an airplane. Shows TCG low, med, high, and market. Also shows the lowest priced vendors on TCG player. All of this on one well organized screen without needing to make any clicks. A really good trade feature that automatically shows the overall values and difference in value in a trade. Keeps a history of trades. And not only the cards traded, but current value difference as well as saving the prices is of the cards during the initial trade. Has everything. As in EVERYTHING including Collectors Edition, and every single set and card. And they are well organized so that cards are easy to find. When you pull up a card, it shows every other printing and their value. Thanks for making an awesome App. I’m so glad I found this years ago, and it keeps getting better.

### 5/5 — The best Magic app out there!

*2026-03-01, version 2.15.21*

Awesome customer service! They really take your suggestions to make the app better! Easy to use, awesome features, and constantly updated prices. I use this app everyday!!!

### 5/5 — Best Collection App

*2026-01-09, version 2.15.21*

I love this app, it’s the only one that I find has all of the promos and various printings of the cards. I keep my decks as “want lists”, so I can keep an idea of the values easily. If you don’t have this app, you are missing out.

### 5/5 — Amazing for trades and just all around great

*2025-11-11, version 2.15.21*

Love this app

### 5/5 — Update

*2025-09-02, version 2.15.21*

Make sure you update the new cards manually on the app

### 5/5 — Fantastic app

*2025-07-28, version 2.15.21*

Great app to look up prices quickly and have pictures if needed. He gets his updates very quick and very trustworthy for the prices. It pulls off a TCG.

### 5/5 — Best MTG App I’ve ever used

*2025-07-27*

I’ve had MTGTrades (and MTGGuide) for years now and I absolutely love them. I’m a judge and a an avid trader and so both of these apps are absolute life savers and I can’t thank the creator enough. This app is worth ten times it’s price as quick access to card values and trade tracking (with all card versions!) will save or even make you money.
