I wish I could rate this 0 stars. Now we’re stuck with a predicament, when the old app goes out of date and doesn’t work, what app do we use if the new app doesn’t even open? And don’t tell me to fill out more forms or share more of the issue. Fix the new app. That’s all that needs to be done. ### 1/5 — I’m frustrated *2026-01-28, version 1.22.14* Im highly disappointed by Mtn. Have you tested the app and really approve it? Because this app is useless. I have two mtn numbers, the other one is contract, and everytime i try to top up my contract data. There would a technical issue, im ask to try again. Everyday same glitch. I tried switching it of, clearing cache, or deleting app and so on. No luck. Secondly i cant seem to log in smooth using both numbers back to back without the app kicking my other number. Mtn please fix this. Im highly annoyed and disappointed how hard it is make my life simple. ### 1/5 — Technical issue *2026-01-26, version 1.22.14* I have been using the app for a couple of months now and every single month when I need to top up through the app I get an error message that there’s a technical issue! And it stays that way for days until it spontaneously works again. It is very frustrating and needs to be fixed. When I call in I’m told I need to go to an mtn store for a top up if the app isn’t working and that’s not always possible. Please look into this! ### 1/5 — What a useless App wish I could give no stars *2026-01-24, version 1.22.14* I bought an MTN eSIM expecting a quick, digital, convenient experience. Instead, it’s been nothing but frustration. First, I tried to self-RICA — it simply won’t let me. I keep getting told to “try again” or go into a store. That completely defeats the point of buying an eSIM in the first place. If I wanted to stand in a queue, I wouldn’t have chosen an online option. Then I tried to link my number — technical error. Every time. No explanation, no solution. And support? Nowhere to be found. No proper online portal to log in from a laptop (in 2026 — shocking), no live chat, no chatbot, no clear help process. Just dead ends. This has been a waste of time and money. An eSIM is supposed to make life easier — MTN’s system does the exact opposite. ### 1/5 — Can’t buy new credit as can’t put in a card. cvv field not showing *2026-01-19, version 1.22.14* Can’t buy new credit as can’t put in a card. cvv field not showing ### 1/5 — Stuck in a loop *2025-12-16, version 1.22.14* Trying to register for the first time for a new number, but it says the number already exists, then asks for a pin. ### 2/5 — Difficult navigation and incomplete info *2025-12-09, version 1.22.13* This is the worst of the 3 apps MTN launched ... why always a new one . My major issue is that the shareable contacts' information is not on the new app , I therefore need to still use the old app. The new app, is not intuitive and makes me the user look for things longer than normal. App2 is better , why will you fix the navigation and shareable information. ### 1/5 — The new app needs to be reviewed *2025-11-27, version 1.22.12* The app does not work efficiently. The only thing that can be done at times is buying data. All the other features glitch, especially the upgrade deals. After checking for new upgrade deals the app closes and then you're bombarded with Spam phonecalls from the MTN upgrade line. It's quite frustrating. ### 1/5 — Worst app ever *2025-11-25, version 1.22.12* I don’t understand why MTN doesn’t take it’s customers seriously, they have the worst customer service I’ve seen and now their app doesn’t work. And mind you this is a new app. It literally takes months to approve a new application this is a multibillion rand company but they have the worst everything. Don’t even bother using them for anything, the app literally crashes non stop. I can’t even access it imagine. ### 1/5 — I bought 100gb data on my number and it hasn’t shown up, worst service provider ever *2025-11-23, version 1.22.12* I recently bought 100gb data because I’m always on the go, and when I checked it wasn’t there, I left it for 24 hours thinking that maybe it was just a huge amount of data, it still hasn’t came, I tried to contact an MTN agent and nothing happened worst ever!!! ### 1/5 — Fire the App Dev *2025-11-22, version 1.22.10* I rarely write App reviews but I had to voice out my frustration because the previous app was much better than this. At first it did not have the Data Share management window, they added it in an update. In the recent update they have removed it again??? Why? Even a Capuchin monkey is smarter than the person who’s in charge of this app ### 1/5 — Very poor app *2025-11-18, version 1.22.10* I deeply regret deleting my old app - it’s by far the biggest mistake I’ve made this year. I’m trying to link my number, which I’ve been using for over 15 years, along with my secondary data number that I’ve had for two years. Unfortunately, MTN doesn’t recognize either of them. They’re prompting me to register, but when I do, I don’t receive any verification link via SMS or email. This app is incredibly frustrating! Update: How do I share data on this new version? ### 1/5 — New app awful *2025-11-10, version 1.22.8* The new app of MTN that we had to upgrade to is awful. I never had problems with old app, now I have problems login in, it simply shuts down and could not recharge my airtime. I was forced to recharge for nominal data and today all this data is mysteriously gone. When something is not broken (old app) then don’t fix it! ### 1/5 — I cant link my number to the app *2025-11-03, version 1.22.8* Hi Dev Team. Your face verification method is trash. I took a picture of my selfie and my ID but could not verify my face because of mismatch I am sure. Remember facial recognition is quite tricky because of lighting, you could improve your algorithm so that there is a better chance of making it to the similarity threshold by making the user to at least take multiple photos not only 1!!!. I developed a facial recognition myself using the d-lib library and you can try to use that and relax your threshold to avoid too much mismatches. I cannot even view my balances etc because of this mismatch issue. I had the same issue when I tried to open an account because of the same problem. You can use an LLM if your algorithm is not working. The app is jerky as well and confusing, please use newer flutter versions to fix such. Otherwise this should be a simple app to use, and when matching fails it takes me to the step for putting the number, which is a reflection of lacking UX design. If it fails can you at least take to the step for taking pictures and cache the other details. Otherwise your main issue is the matching algorithm, this needs an immediate attention, I almost walked away from the shop when my account creation was failing because of the mismatch. Remember IDs are taken when we are younger, and as we grow we get much more obstructions eg beard, and this worsens the matching score. You really need to reevaluate your verification procedures to improve customer experience. ### 1/5 — Angaben in der App sind teilweise falsch *2025-10-31, version 1.22.7* 1. Mein 3-Tages Guthaben (Data+ Voice ) sollte laut App bis 31.10. 23:59 gültig sein, ist aber am Morgen des 31.10. schon gelöscht. 2. I cannot buy data via my bank cards and when I would try to buy data with airtime the application it either gives me an error or crashes. Sometimes it gives me an error and says I have insufficient airtime. If there is no update resolving these simple issues I will gladly remove this application. ### 1/5 — Worst Nightmare *2026-04-10, version 1.22.25* It is impossible to link a number using this App, it rejects the facial selfie and worse part it even rejects the Physical ID. This is by far the most frustrating App I ever used. Was this thing even tested?? The previous App was 100 times better than this one, now I can't access my monthly statement because the stupid App can't link router number. ### 1/5 — Transfer *2026-04-06, version 1.22.25* No airtime or data transfer feature ### 1/5 — Wolf *2026-04-02, version 1.22.25* Shocking experience, all my linked numbers over 24 are no longer there. I now have to find every device that has SIM and recreate this link by removing the Sim as the devices are cameras no screen & insert into a phone. What a pain. It’s going to take days. MTN Store is not interested in assisting The only reason why I went with MTN was for this reason. I am tempted to cancel all 24x contracts. If only I could give a zero rating, but 1 star is the lowest sadly! ### 1/5 — It’s as bad as others say it is *2026-03-19* It has literally taken me over 90 minutes to simply top up using this non-functioning app. It’s actually laughable that this app is connected to a global company. It continuously times out and doesn’t allow me to remit payment so that I can recharge. Tried that, and it still doesn’t allow me to register because my number “already exists”? So, tried to log in instead, and it still doesn’t work. I don’t get it. Before phasing out the old app, they have to make sure the new one actually WORKS. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Great Upgrade *2026-05-03, version 1.22.26* It works perfectly and everything is accurate and accessible.. I don’t see why some are having issues with it I had no issues from day one of using it. You need to ensure that your phone is updated to the latest software and try deleting it and installing it again if you have issues. I think this would solve most issues people have. It’s definitely a 5/5 rating from me. ### 5/5 — best network in ZA *2026-02-05, version 1.22.15* MTN is the only network in za that lets you download their app without needing to change your region on your apple account. by far the best network in za and the best app, really easy to top up and buy data.
